I teach K also. I do flexible seating and have special name tags for their pencil boxes. I love to use those "hello my name is" simple tags for things like -- Name centers (practicing their name and their classmates name), open house (so they know where to put supplies), and I also keep a set for when I need to "assign" seats for a sub or activity. They really come in handy throughout the year.
That is such an awesome idea using the name tags to practice writing their names! I never would have thought of that, thank you so much for sharing Charity!
First year of teaching! Congrats! My first year of teaching was also teaching Kindergarten... I had 36 kiddos for the first month and a half until they hired a new Kinder teacher! Eeek!! I'll be starting my 5th year in the classroom next year in 3rd grade. Just remember it never gets easier, you just get better. :) Also... For the legos, those would be great to use in some Kindergarten STEM bins! Challenge them to build a certain structure using the legos. Good luck next year! I plan on starting teacher vlogging next year, too.
Lindsay Malloy oh my goodness, lots of little kiddos! Thanks for the advice, I feel like I will be flying by the seed of my pants for the first year 😂 that’s a great idea! I really want to collect some more STEM like items for them to create with! And you should vlog! It’s fun to look back on and find community :)
Congrats on your first teaching job! I taught K my first 2 years and was moved to 4th last year. Now they moved me back to K! I love Kindergarten, it’s such a fun age!
I’m so happy I stumbled across your channel! I just wrapped up my student teaching year in a kindergarten classroom and got hired on as a kindergarten teacher for this coming up school year! I love love love watching other teacher channels for inspiration and am excited to have found another first year kindergarten teacher ♥️
You found some great books. I am always on the hunt for books at second hand stores for my classroom. Great haul and I’m looking forward to following you on your new journey 😃
So happy with your purchases. Can’t wait to see the classroom. And thanks you for buying one of the thousands of books I recommended to you. Lilly and the purple plastic purse is similar to Crysanthemum. Loved those books growing up. And the kissing hand.. ☺️ Gonna be honest: that’s what hit me through Kindergarten and 1st grade. If you could read aloud chapter I would recommend the miraculous journey of Edward Tulane. My first grade teacher read that to me and I loved it to this day.
I just got my student teaching placement for next school year and I’ll be in a kindergarten classroom! It was nice seeing the things you’ve collected so far and I’m excited to follow along your journey into your own classroom :)
Great haul. teaching Kindergarten is really fun! I post my numbers/ten frames posters on the wall just like my alphabet. When we hit each number, I refer to the number. When we get to counting, then I reinforce the ten frame.
I am currently getting an Associates in ECE and plan on transferring for a Bachelor's in Elementry ED. I stumbled on this, and love to see some practical ideas to start collecting my own stuff.
I’m only 12 but I want to be a teacher when I’m older and I like watching younger teachers talking about what it’s like teaching and there Hall’s cuz then I invasion what I want my classrooms I look like I love your videos I look up to you soo much keep doing what your doing ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I’ve recently found paint cups just like that (from Amazon)! I will for sure be purchasing for my future classroom! It makes art less of a hassle to clean up (and I love being able to send art home but I’m not a fan of the mess! Lol). I do have a question: how soon did you start collecting books? 🤔 I’ll be graduating by the end of next year but I also don’t want to collect books TOO soon since I’m low on space in my apartment! 😆
KUWTM: Our Journey So I started collecting some books around the end of last year, & I just would only buy really good quality books that were popular titles! I would say just be really picky to begin with so that you still are collecting a little, but also being mindful with your limited space!
I’m studying to be a teacher right now. I’m so excited for you to have your first class! Just a little heads up, double check your pronunciation of chrysanthemum. It could be an accident but I just want to be sure. It’s Chris-an-the-mum and you pronounced it Chris-an-thee-um
Congrats on working in kindergarten this upcoming year. This is be my 2nd year in kindergarten in Ontario and I've posted some picture books hauls! I love watching different classroom hauls!
@@haileykatelynn A huge tip i have is don't afraid to ask the other kinder teachers if you have any questions. They have been amazing for tips for me and they think of things that I didn't and vice versa. I usually have a morning meeting now with the one just to talk about stuff just because!
One of my favorite books for setting up class norms is My Mouth is a Volcano. Great teaching book for setting expectations with interruptions. Got my copy on Amazon for a penny!
A penny??? How did you score that amazing deal?? I will definitely have to check it out! Also, do you have any other books you recommend for the beginning of the school year? :) I would appreciate any suggestions you have!
I buy tons of books on Amazon. Also First Book is a great place to get books. For beginning of the year Fist Day Jitters is a classic. I also love Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon and A Bad Case of Stripes. The Girl who Never Made Mistakes is a good one. Hope those help!
@@lauriewilliams8336 This is SO helpful! I actually just put a together a wish list for Amazon this morning with a few of these books on there! I will definitely have to go add the rest of these! Also, I just checked out First Book, it looks amazing!! Thank you!
Does your school do AR? It would be a good idea to find out so that you can label them before school start. Congrats on your new journey!!! I teach first.
The hashtag blocks from Target are the best! I wish Target would bring them back....I can’t find them anywhere. I bought 7 tubes of them and it isn’t enough. I did find a different brand of them on Amazon...they are quite pricy and they are not compatible with the ones from Target. (If you find yourself buying them off amazon just FYI the more expensive ones are thicker)
They are the best! Im crossing my fingers that they will bring them back when it gets closer to school starting back up! Good to know about the Amazon ones though!
I've purchased the little hashtag blocks many times from target, most recent time was only a few months ago They seem to come and go, usually with the holidays or sometimes seasons so it's hit or miss whether they're there but I don't believe they actually did away with them!

I find that reading to kiddos while they are doing work by themselves really helps keep them in focus and quiet/not dictraced
That is a great idea! Also calm music!

You have a lot of great things for centers they can practice their letters and other stuff with those cards. I love the books you got so far!
Yes! I am definitely going to be needing to collect lots of things for math and reading rotations! Thanks girl!

When you find awesome books second hand, it is the best! 🙌🏻 what grade do you teach?
@@haileykatelynn Not sure for next year yet, still waiting to find out :)

Isabel Cunningham thanks for the suggestions!
Madeline was my favorite, too!!! 🥰❤️🥰 Nice video! I am enjoying your excitement beginning your career!!
Jackie Fanson yay! Not very many people I know loved her too! Thanks Jackie! 🥰

I think we will be doing something similar in my classroom as well, this is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Read Junior B. all year! They LOVE it! I read it right after lunch and while we are waiting for dismissal at the end of the day!
I’m teaching Kinder this year. I love those seats!
That’s so exciting! If you have an ikea near you, they are from there! And I don’t imagine they are too expensive.

A tip I have for those paint cups: put a sandwich baggie in the cup so the cup can be cleaned extremely easily :)

The letter cards can be clip cards like the animal and sound. Clip the clothes pin on the lower case letter that matches the upper case letter.
Love this idea! Thank you!

The kids can use clothespins to select the matching uppercase letter and lowercase letter.
Oooh good idea! Thank you! 😊
The letter sticks can be used to identify letters 🔠
That's what I'm planning on doing now! Thank you :)
For the long pieces with letters, the students match the lowercase letter with the capital letter that is on the top!
Oh, duh! 😂 I think I just blanked on that one! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
awesome books collection

a book that’s funny is called the wonky donkey it’s a picture book also
Target has the sand timer with different minute limits
I know!! I have been searching and searching for them but no luck yet! :(
Why do you have to buy the carpet for your classroom? That's the school responsibility surely?
I actually didn't have to! But I know many, many schools around here do not provide them.
