Best video for doing this that I have found. The caliper retraction cost me hours and your trick got the job done. Also, I took the whole assembly apart but in hindsight, I could have not done this as you show in your video. Great video thanks for posting.

Thanks man, I also struggled plenty! I figured that I just needed to share, because those details aren't covered in the maintenance manual.

Absolutely spot on! Followed your video to the letter and completed the job, handbrake self adjusts when you apply after fitting the pads so don't worry. I managed to pick up the 3 pin wind back tool which made it easier, fyi, it's the same as the Volkswagen / Audi 3 pin tool. Thanks again!!!

Brilliant, good to know! Ya, if I knew about the wind back tool in advance I would have got one, but by the time I worked it out the breaks were already stripped off.

Flip, I will have to check. I suspect it was a 12 or 14, but I don't remember off hand.

kudos for attemping this - i did a bit more digging around the electronic parking brake system, and learned the turning motion of the piston is required to unwind the drive thread that applies trust which works in tandem with the hydraulic pressure to drive the piston. ua-cam.com/video/46KgDEyD0Pc/v-deo.html hope this gives a bit more information around your work flow.
p.s. you are clamping down on the electronic parking brake motor assembly on the back side of the piston - hope nothing broke!

That's pretty interesting, makes a lot of sense. I don't think anything broke, the entire assembly in the Nissan seems to be in the caliper so its well protected.
