Hello !! I’m a Texas gardener too … couple hours south of DFW . Most all of my gardening has been pretty sad these last few years due to the 100 plus temps … I’m trying to find some tried n true very hardy plants that will thrive n I’ve found 2 !!! Turks caps … the hummingbirds love them . And Purple Heart . Both are super easy to propagate too
I could mail you a couple starts ?? The Turks caps clippings will easily grow big roots if you place in a water glass .., N the Purple Hearts ??? Just place them in the ground n keep it moist n they grow roots all by themselves .
I'm in DFW... we dug up a bunch of purple heart 2 years ago... pulled up more "roots" than leaves and didn't see them for years.. well they are back. And to think it started when I had my moms purple heart in a pot to "baby sit" while her house got built.. and my husband whacked em by mistake with the weed eater.. lol. talk about hearty and volunteers!
In a climate that sometimes makes you sad ( like middle of August ) these purple babies are so refreshing . I plant this around trees … and around large shrubs do that get mostly dappled sun … mine are thriving !!! SO glad 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
My garden has struggled with how the summers are here for sure. I have taken note on which things do good and which things just can not handle it without a lot of extra work from me. I do want to add Turks cap to my garden but I only see the red or orange ones at my local stores. I am hoping to find a pink one.
do yall have bees out there? do you want some! hah Do you have bee seed mixes? I got bee's looking to find good seed stores for feeding them year round (summer dearths and such)!
We do not have bee hives or anything like that but I do see bees all the time. I like the idea of having our own bees and getting our own honey but I am not ready to make that commitment at this time.
Great garden tour!
Very beautiful garden! 👍
Thank you!
My cats have to follow me everywhere too 😂 beautiful garden tour! Can't wait to see what you plant for fall!
Thank you! They are so fun to have around 🐈 I have so many things I want to do to the garden, including expanding. I can't wait to share!
