Thanks for the video. Went there a few times, once with a bunch of my friends in the middle of the night, this was in the 80's. It was creepy enough walking across the fields in the pitch black, then my friend said he could hear something. I laughed as I knew he was freaked in the dark. Out of the darkness a bunch of cows appeared and started running after us. Was chaos, people screaming and I will always remember my friend perfectly diving over the barbed wire fence with a cow right behind him. We went into the house and checked out all the rooms. Many of the floorboards were missing upstairs and there were birds and feathers everwhere. There was even a fox skeleton in one of the rooms upstairs. Freaked the girls out when I pointed out that what they were standing on, ha. Only one of us had a torch but we stayed there for a couple of hours but nothing eventful happened, apart from those cows..lol.
Thanks. It the same on all these walks, when your tired and want warming up all the pubs are shut. Hopefully in the spring and summer things will start to open up.
I went in there several times in the 70s as a boy, exploring and playing and there was someone living in 1 small room. There was still furniture and some paintings on the walls. Creepy place. Some of the architectural features inside, doorways, some windows and lintels are obviously older than the present structure and have been incorporated in from the original grange I expect.
Great video guys. I'm only know discovering the rich history of my town and surroundings. Your videos help so much. Well done and keep up the good work.
Just a reminder that Sker House is a private residence and occupied so respect their privacy when visiting the area, thanks. More stories about Sker House and other Ghosts of Glamorgan ua-cam.com/video/OMScpHqWm04/v-deo.html

lol I just found out that this house was once passed to my family in like the 12th century and then I think someone was arrested and hung but that is all I know.
Hard to imagine a family still living there in the sixties. As I can best recall, it was just one or two rooms on the ground floor. Think I went inside on a visit but would have been quite small.
@@flydriveexplore Iris and Rhys Evans used to farm Sker and were still living there until about 1975 I'm fairly sure, when they retired to Kenfig, as I worked for them in 1966-7 but visited after I'd moved to Canada when I came back to see my mother who had sadly died just before I got there, as my parents had moved into my grandmother's house called Waun-Y-Mer opposite to what was the Maid of Sker pub in the late 'sixties.....Sir Gareth Edwards acquired Waun-Y-Mer eventually, that is now double the size as so much has changed along West Rd, whereas the Rest, Pink Bay, Sker, Parc Newydd, Moor Lane and old Nottage are still virtually unchanged quite as they were, happily when Auntie Mabel apportioned out the Worthington bitter ~ your video walks are just excellent and much appreciated, so many thanks

Wow, what a beautiful building. Thank you for sharing Marcus, and thank you to the owner of the photographs!
Thanks, it's a great building in a remote location on Sker Point. We would love to live there.
Thoroughly enjoyable video, keep up the good work! Bet you could have done with a nice drink in the Rose and Crown afterwards!

Yes, they probably salvaged and reused parts in the rebuild. It would be interesting to see inside now.
@@flydriveexplore I've been inside and its beautiful.
I did same and got scared

Let's hope you get a chance to look inside for us.
I hope so, I'll pass on your thanks.
Thanks for the history lesson!
Thanks
A damn good effort , and the chat is good as well .
Thank you
Great video. Would love to see your take on the Bronze Age burial mounds that line the top of the Garth Mountain sometime.
Hopefully from this weekend we can now look a little further. I'm going to be taking a look at Stormy Down castle which not many people know about.
I absolutely love your channel.
Thank you for taking the time to watch
Great video, planning to stream the game soon and wanted to get info on the actual history/House of Sker.

That intro sound is that from a tv show ? I’ve been here for hours trying to figure it out but great video !
Thanks, no it's not from any TV show. It's just a couple of sounds from the UA-cam audio library put together.
Great video, very interesting.Who lives there now.
The restored house was sold to Niall Ferguson, a professor of history. I think he still owns it.
It was an eerie old house Sker house.
It definitely was.

The Maid of Sker or whatever the story was. Woo-hoo-hoo. I remember it as a kid growing up in Ogmore Valley. Love those old legends.
Hard to imagine a family still living there in the sixties.

Yes, it was really run down and must have been barely habitable in the 60s

@@davidllfoster396 Thanks for the detailed info and taking the time to comment, glad it hasn't changed that much and thanks for watching.
Wow, that place was a total disaster! Are there any pictures from when the house was open to the public?
There must be some out there but I haven't seen any. The only ones I've seen were from a feature in Country Life magazine but there' not that many
Omg god guys I’m 42 and still go there camping in my own and it scary
Does Neil Ferguson own it now?
Not sure if he still does.

@@William22M Why? It was fully restored when he bought it.
