One of the houses i grew up in had a reputation for being haunted. Though none of us living there ever seen anything even vaguely ghostly. Anyone at the top of the staircase at midnight, would hear something coming up the stairs, hitting every step on the way up. We thought of it as a recording that played at the same time every night and soon ignored it. Our friends from school staying overnight and hearing it, usually filled in the missing cause with some sort of ghostly apparition, that never matched what others thought they had seen. For us it was a way of knowing when it was midnight, like a alarm clock.
I agree, I was born and brought up in a haunted house with my brother and two sisters, this was in south wales, the house was first registered in 1876 by an "Albert Theodore Hookchild" but also on the deeds it is mentioned that there was a "dwelling " of sorts on the site of the house 200 years before the main house was built, Definately haunted, no doubt about it, and still to this day, I have "witnesses" to the things that happened in that house, It is still for sale today, since 1996, and has been sold many times, it is proved that no one stays there for more than 2 years ....I didn,t mind the spirits ,they were kind, and added to the atmosphere , especially around christmas time, remember, "It,s the living who hurt you , not the dead,"....✝....
I know of two properties in Bargoed that are well rumoured to be haunted. Persistent reports of poltergeist Activity at Gladstone villa, a family claimed to have seen a monk. The R A F A club directly opposite is one of the oldest buildings in Bargoed, dating back to the 16th century. It is said that there is a priest hole in the cellar with the remains of a monk but it's sealed up. A male member of staff claimed to have been pushed by unseen forces , a former teacher also said he heard footsteps late at night there, turned him into a believer . Look up "THE GHOSTS OF BARGOED". It convinced a skeptic.
They definitely stole from wrecked ships on the Welsh coast but they were probably opportunists. Whether they caused the wrecks may be doubtful. Due to the weather and tides, there were plenty of accidental wrecks in the days of sail.
Wrecking did happen I was there we did use false lights.i got shot in the head on the next day after the wreck got lurd and looted. Went on the beach in the morning with my mole and cart collecting the last bits then the customs came and shot me got the scar to prove it round about 1820 I died from a reincarnated wrecker as we use to say back in the day are lanterns are our tools of are trade.
The Maid of Sker is the same story as The Maid of Cefn Ydfa and stories grow taller down the line, lol, I don't believe in ghosts either, arguably it's our own imagination, love hearing about local folk tales though, thank you 😊
It's a fascinating area although you can only see the house from a distance. They've got a bit protective over the place especially since the release of the Maid of Sker video game.
I have been there a couple of times quite a few years ago as I used to be a keen windsurfer (until very recently) there used to be a couple of events down there.
Yes huge fan of hammer. I have a treasured letter from Peter shortly before he died. He would reply to all his letters. Back in the late eighties early 90s all you had to do was write Peter cushing whitstable on the envelope and it would always find him!
@@louisecockell3101 I like Pembroke Castle, the birthplace of Henry VII. There is a big cavern underneath it. Also, look at St Govan's Chapel and the seaside town of Tenby is an old walled town, they do have ghost walks on some nights,.
Hard to believe there were so many traumatic shipwrecks in that beautiful landscape. Love the photography.

Having lived in at least 3 haunted houses I can assure you that ghosts do exist but mostly are not at all sinister & can be helpful at times.

Great video, never thought all this history about Porthcawl.Makes me want to walk these remote places, perhaps I will someday.Well presented and told.
Interesting places, especially as it start to get dark
Been watching a friend play Maid Of Sker. To find out it's a real place blows my mind.
5:55 - Well, as Arthur C. Clarke once said: "I don't believe in ghosts - but I am afraid of them".

My dad and grandad used to tell me ghost stories of sker. Its always fascinating walking past it as i dont live too far from there
Yes, Sker Point and the house is very atmospheric.
Apparently historians now say there is no evidence that wrecking actually occured in Cornwall, although I know it is traditionally believed it did.

Yep, we don't believe in ghosts but we love a good ghost story and watching scary films.
I just this second made a similar comment. I'm sure my dad would've happily locked me in my room too when I was a rebellious teenager.😂
I say, are you trying to "Sker"(scare) us to death? LOL
Brilliant Vlog. Very atmospheric, going to have to visit Sker point and house when the lockdown is over. New subscriber here😁👍

Hello. Just watched your Devon episodes. Just wondered if you ever went to Whitstable? The land of Peter cushing and amazing walks
I have been there a couple of times quite a few years ago as I used to be a keen windsurfer (until very recently) there used to be a couple of events down there.
Love the classic Hammer films too.

I meant to say just watched your Canterbury episode not Devon. Hence the whitstable segway!
@@abaillie40 Wondered why, yep, South Devon is a little bit further!
Have you ever done any ghost stories of North Wales as i know quite a few .
Not yet as I'm really that familiar with the area. We will be going up there soon.
I love these ghost stories very well done and enjoyable can I request more please?👍
We may be doing some more for this coming Halloween.
@@flydriveexplore excellent!! Can you recommend any haunted spots in pembrokeshire to visit ?

@@flydriveexplore brilliant thankyou
I love your spooky tales
Thanks
Fathers in those days were pretty mean. The maid of Cefn Ydfa was also locked in her room till she died of a broken heart. Was it a common practice?
There does seem to be a lot of similar legends
Would you say I’d be able to investigate this place?.?
The owners of the house itself are not keen on any visitors. Although the area around Sker Point and Kenfig Dunes is open to public access.
Good video from a reincarnated wrecker
Maid of sker the video game
Maid Of Sker the 18th-century story.
The game is loosely based on it. The game developers are based not far away from the house.
I don't believe in ghost, either. That is just silly. Now, werewolves are real and you should always carry silver and wolfsbane.
What about Evil Elves!
@@flydriveexplore Evil Werewolf Elves are even worse.
Why tell us a load of ghost stories, just to kill the atmosphere at the end saying you don't believe 🤷🤦
Well, I don't believe in ghosts but I still love ghost stories. I'm not going to say they're true when I don't.
Why should the storyteller's belief (or lack of it) impact your enjoyment, if they told the story well?
The muzac is dark enough!
