      Ha thanks! Glad you liked the review. It's interesting but ever since buying the Legion Go... I find myself picking it up more than my Ally. Very good and in depth review, I had my Legion since launch and never looked back from my LCD Steam Deck. Legion is without a doubt the better upgrade then the other handhelds by far, when you can play the bigger gaming titles with no problem on a massively 8.8 display that looks awesome, this is a no brainer. I cannot go back to a 7inch display

    Great, very thorough video! I love this in particular due to the sheer flexibility of the controllers, such as turning the screen to portrait mode and playing vertical shooters or not needing to carry extra controllers with me when plugging into a TV when traveling (the two USB ports also help with turning it into a portable console of sorts!).
    It seems I got unlucky with my LenoGo, as mine makes a pretty nasty coil whine even at low fan speeds. I've just been tolerating it for months since I love the device in every other way, but seeing this video and some others saying they have no issues with the fan noise, I think I will try to see if I can get the fan and/or backplate replaced through warranty.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  3 місяці тому +2

      Coil whine can also diminish over time so I hope that's the case for ya. It probably gets louder the more wattage you put into it. As someone that hates coil whine in general on desktop parts, I totally understand hating that sound.

    Legion Go seemed great when i first got it but after the honeymoon period I realized how inconsistent it was. You have to constantly tinker with the resolution to get certain games to play, lack of Frame gen and having to use lossless scaling is also another flaw. The portrait orientation just causes certain features to not be compatible with the Go. It almost feels like a prototype, it's so laggy with certain games and you'll rarely use the 1600p native res unless you playing a very old game or indie game. Just isn't worth 70p bucks at all, the screen is nice but that's about it, plus it's mad uncomfortable to hold after while. The corners dig in to your hands and my hands start to fall asleep after extended periods of gaming.

    Great review! But one thing that keeps me away is only 16GB of RAM. I acutally had Legion GO for a few days but the more demanding games and Windows itself took all the RAM aviable. Games were stuttering just because of RAM. How are you suppoused to manage that? Every review I saw they were running on the edge of its capabilities. Ally X has 24GB which will be enough for sure. LeGo is currently the best handheld. Along with Ally, it has one of the best mobile chips you can get right now. LeGo simply has the best display of all handhelds, over 8 inches (massive), 1600p resolution, and 144Hz, just amazing and personally the main reason for my purchase. Thanks to Windows, all Windows handhelds have the best desktop mode.
    The Rog Ally has a unique advantage when it comes to the display, called VRR, which is basically a game-changer. The speakers are also great, and the custom ASUS game interface is more than sufficient for launching games. Very handy. Both LeGo and Ally come with Windows, so you have access to all games directly without emulation and without issues. Xbox Game Pass also works, of course, because it's Windows.
    The Deck has a big advantage for me personally, which is the menu navigation of STEAM OS. It's brilliant, and Microsoft should take note of it if they release a GUI update for handhelds. But that's it for the advantages. Apart from the OLED version (superb picture), it's just 900p and 90Hz. Furthermore, many games don't work on the Deck, and even STEAM VERIFIED doesn't mean that the games work from start to finish without issues. Crashes are also not uncommon. In comparison, STEAM BIG PICTURE on Windows handhelds is simply more stable and generally better. There's no native Xbox Game Pass on STEAM OS, some launchers and their games cause problems, and certain multiplayer games with specific anti-cheat software are also not playable on STEAM OS.
    So, for me, STEAM OS simply has no future. You are limited and have to give up many games and services.
    Again, for those with a Windows handheld who use STEAM often, just use Big Picture for the overview, and you're good to go.

    • @phrozac
      @phrozac 3 місяці тому +1

      The LeGo's 8.8 inch 1600p144hz screen is great. The Ally's VRR is great. But neither is OLED. I have an OLED Deck and a LeGo, and I gotta say the Deck's OLED + HDR is a gamechanger. for image quality. The Deck's variable refresh isn't quite as good as VRR but it's better than the 144hs of the LeGo which is overkill unless you only play old or indie games.
      Overall, I think the OLED Deck edges out the LeGo's screen but the best traits of each screen in one would be perfection. The upcoming MSI Claw 8 ai+ looks like it could be that with an 8-inch 1080p120hz IPS VRR display. I just hope the new APU is up to snuff.

    • @fairphoneuser9009
      @fairphoneuser9009 3 місяці тому

      Well, you are limited when it comes to online multiplayer and some AAA games, but the user experience on a handheld with Windows is horrible. Absolutely horrible. As long as this doesn't change the Steam Deck has a huge advantage.

    Just returned mine and went back to the ally. I wanted to love this with all my heart. the over all size made me not take it with me so whats the point. The speaker was worse than a bad cheap phone speaker. worse than laptop speakers. Just the worse cheapest speaker ever made this device is my benchmark for a 1 on sound. The lack of dock mode and subsequently having to manually hack in a dock mode was kind of fun but the constant issues with heat made me realize I simply can't get comparable performance. The legiongo software feels more like abondonware. I found myself never playing and constantly tinkering. Controller lag was immediately apparent then went away some how. I HATE BEZELS!!!! nail in the coffin, It killed my 512gig sd card. like the card no longer works all my data is gone. The card slot never worked no matter how many hours of tinkering. So I am waiting for my ally X that supports 2280 full size nvme drives.

    I dont know why but Legion Go's kick stand i use it to compensate with the weight, i extend it all the way back while playing handheld and rest it on the bed or sofa or anything under or also pillow, that way i can play on handheld mode while not having the weight on my arms or hands, but on the kickstand itself. i cant do that with my rog ally, because if i do that then the screen will be too small and away from my face, which the Legion Go's screen fits perfectly.

So at the end of the day, I'm only looking for an easy to use and stable handheld for when I'm at the airport and on the flight! Battery life doesn't really matter because I will usually have a power outlet within reach :)

Frame gen doesn't work so you have to buy a program from Steam to get that feature, wobbly controllers, battery life bucks. Its just very inconsistent when it comes to gaming. Now perfection is the Ally X. I don't need a 9 inch screen to game on the go, plus 1080p is the sweet spot for the z1extreme.

    I had a legion go for a few months but sold it for a steam deck oled. I had horrible controller wobble while it was attached and it was quite big and heavy to hold. I also found myself plugged into a wall more than I would like which didn’t make me feel as portable. Steam deck oled solved most of those problems for me ( if u don’t mind the decreased performance) and I’ve actually been playing a lot more games now 😁

Specifically, I’m asking if I can set it to charge up to 80%, so that while it’s plugged in, it remains at 80% and runs on AC power rather than using the battery. I’m finding conflicting information online-some sources say it doesn’t support bypass charging, while others claim it does.

      @KeiRetroGaming  2 місяці тому

      Hmm, that's a good question! I don't have my Ally X yet, but I find myself picking up the Legion Go more often than the Z1E Ally I currently have, mostly due to the panel itself. It's far more vibrant, and I really like the screen size. If I had to recommend one, I'd say grab the Legion if you want a bigger screen and don't mind treating it like a single sitting device. If battery life is a must, go with the Ally X. That being said, the battery isn't bad at all on the Legion Go. VRR is nice, but I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. Ha guess that doesn't help does it? 😅

    • @Revelation21v4-en5dg
      @Revelation21v4-en5dg 2 місяці тому

      @KeiRetroGaming it is very hard to decide as I really like the screen on Legion Go. I have pre-ordered the X but thinking to cancel my order and go with the Legion instead. I would be playing AAA games probably 98% of the time. Like Horizon Forbidden West, RDR2, GTA, Spider-man etc. I'm worried about the Legion Go lagging.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  2 місяці тому

      It all depends on your expectations for the handheld. I sold the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED because they couldn't maintain 60fps in many AAA titles. Even with 4-8GB VRAM, the Rog Ally and Legion Go are very capable of handling big AAA titles. In fact, I've played the following games absolutely fine on both devices:
      - Ghost of Tsushima (absolutely incredible on the Legion Go panel)
      - Resident Evil 4
      - Horizon Forbidden West
      - Lies of P
      - Remnant 2
      - Armored Core: Fires of Rubicon
      - Starfield
      - A Plague Tale: Requiem
      And many more! The only games I've had issues with are Returnal, due to a VRAM leak issue in the game itself, and Dragon's Dogma 2 (which runs at 20-30fps on my desktop 3080 in cities regardless). You can also use Lossless scaling or driver level frame generation to fill the gap on games that run at 45fps, that'll make them feel much smoother overall. I only use frame generation on one or two games and it doesn't bother me when I use it. The Legion Go runs games incredibly well, and even 720p medium looks great on the panel in many titles.
      I personally think the Legion Go is a bit more special because little features like the kickstand and detachable controllers have been incredible for my day-to-day commutes. Heck, if I don't feel like playing a game on my lunch break, I can set up the Legion as a media device, remove the controllers and catch up on a few series while relaxing in a café. The Legion Go has been absolutely incredible. I think if I had to pick one, I'd probably choose the Legion Go, but I'll be picking up my Ally X on the 21st. Sorry for the long reply but I know how stressful it can be picking a new device so hopefully that helped a bit.

    Been staying out of town for the better part of two months, and picked a LeGo up so I could game in my spare time in the room, and at the hospital. Absolutely love it so far.
    Just make sure to update to the latest drivers, and the latest version of amd software adrenaline edition, which actually works quite nicely in tweaking game settings for increased quality/performance. Been messing with lossless scaling, but amd’s software I feel is more intuitive, and does the job just fine.
    Just wish I could slap another ssd in it, as I don’t want to dual boot with bazzite on the same drive, and upgrade the ram to 32 gigs.
