Probably the best beginner tutorial for bow holding I've found, many thanks

You're a great teacher Simon, and not only I love your videos, but alsoI love you accent. It is obvious that English is not your first language, BUT you speak more clearly and articulately than most people whose first language is. True and true! :-)

I am a beginner and thank you for this. My little finger is stiff and learning about holding the fingers close helped me about trying the bow as you suggested. I am 74 years old so....lol

I had once a student who was over 80years old! The fingers were also a problem with him. I think you can also get away with finding a position, that is comfortable for you even if it is slightly different to the ideal! Congratulations on starting with the violin! I love it when people in your age still like to discover new things! And even typing "lol" is a sign you stay young :D

I have always liked your videos. I play classical violin. Bending the thumb inward as we should has always been a headache. Great explanation though. 👌

Much thanks. Very well explained. I must run and practice before I forget something important.

Wow. I just realized that I've been holding the bow WRONG all these years :-) I also didn't know about the two different methods of bow hold. Thank you :-)

Yes ! But how long does it take to master ? And do you learn it in stages ? Seems to be too much to learn at one time !!!!

''wisdom of the day right there '' LOOOL xDD i threw my bow reading this
i gotta ask something i have a very small hand i am almost 22 but my hand has the same size as a grade schooler i find it much comfortable to put my thump inside the frog would that affect my handling and flexibility in bowing ? ;0

I think, especially with a small hand you should not have a problem with having the thumb on the stick. Actually for big hands like mine the bow hold should feel uncomfortable. But for small hands it is quite natural. But like with other things it is a question of habits. If you practice it right, it becomes natural for you with time. Be patient!

I realize you are young and old age is 1,000 years away, I wish for you (and me) it was. Do you know of anyone making videos for anyone beginning at an older age? I'm just starting at age 63. My bow hand is smaller and I have some finger deformation.please, anyone who reads this please let me know.
I'm going to play this damn thing even if I have to tape my hand and the bow together!
