Lightweight Hunting Rifles with Chris Barrett | SHOT 2017

- Barrett Firearms Manufacturing has usually been more concerned with Military and LE customers than the hunting crowd. Until recently that is, with the company brining to market their Fieldcraft line of extremely lightweight hunting rifles in a multitude of calibers. Coming in at around five pounds per rifle, the design has really shaved weight from a traditional hunting set up.

Now convince optic manufacturers to produce light compact optics like they did in the 90s to benefit a light rifle
Had to retire my heavy weight, 8.7 lbs. Ruger M77 30-06, after 40 years of faithful service, Great Rifle, many good memories. I Bought this one in 25-06, 6.5 lbs. with scope. At 64, I still have a passion for western mule deer hunting, and this rifle is going to be a pleasure to hunt with. Do to its light weight it still recoils about the same as my 30-06 but when I take that one shot at a nice Buck I never even notice it!
I'll bet these things kick like a dang mule.
This is a better rifle than the Kimber light mountain rifle in many ways but especially quality of build. You will ALWAYS get excellent accuracy with a Barrett.
I have a 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro that weighs about one pound more than the lightweight Barrett. I'd say this Barrett hunting rifle is equal in quality to the X-Bolt Pro. Like the Barrett my 6.5 PRC X-Bolt Pro has a 1:7 twist to handle the heavier 6.5 bullets you would shoot in a 6.5 PRC cartridge.
honestly beautifully light but id love a wood version
For those concerned about price, at :3:00 below the rifle is the end of a sheet displaying the retail price of $1,800. Not outlandish, considering the Kimber Adirondack 84M is in that range as well.
Looking forward to the review/compression video that shows whether or not people should jealous of the people that bought one of these or shows we can point and laugh ;)
1799.00 MSRP on their site
yeah, thats a little steep. Thats more than a Remington 700 sendero.
If it does prove to be really accurate then it'll just be a budget Christensen arms
SOCAL3800 - Yeah, it's more but after taking your new Remington to your local gun guru to get the bugs fixed, one of these rifles may be very inexpensive. I'd like to see one of these once they start hitting the stores. If the msrp is 18, they might sell for 14-16, once the initial rush dies down. I'd try one for less than 15.
That is a beautiful looking rifle. One question though having in mind the light weight would follow up shots be more difficult on account of the higher recoil that this gun would have ?
Most of the time when you're hunting you wouldn't really need a fast follow up show but when you mount a scope that'll make it a bit heavier
Also remember you still have to cycle the bolt, maybe fractionally slower but it's nothing like the difference it could make with a self loader.
It's a bolt gun. So no. Use a sling.
I would love to have one of these but I usually use 7mm STW for Elk and it isn't a real common round.
I think you have described at least one reason Barrett chose 7mm-08 for the Fieldcraft bolt-action. But 308 makes better sense, a hunting buddy reloads his/mine for hunting and we both already have a variety of rifles that use the rounds.
I love this channel it's right next to matts "ranch" series of channels
Got to get one, $1800 (MSRP), 8 caliber choices, same MSRP.
moonlighter6 1800$ for a rifle that might serve for a lifetime is pretty good in my book
Bester Mann a savage will last just as long, and heck if it doesn’t buy another 5 savages for the same price
is the barrel free floated
Is Barrett offer .26/.28/.30 Nosler ?
My springer air rifle pellet gun is heavier, nice.
TOPENDSLIDE better be nice for $1800
much rather have a ruger american or savage axis or new cheap thompson center rifes for hunting. all are good all are cheap all are accurate.
And heavier than fuck for sheep hunting.
Mike Vrabel they weigh 1 or 2 pounds more than this,
yet this costs $1500 more
TagDelta 915 yeah but that’s like saying a desert eagle is only 1-2 lbs heavier than a traditional pistol
@@Aron-ru5zk 2lb matters when hiking 10-15 miles a day on the hunt.
Will there be any chance getting this rifle in Germany??
You know what Barrett just makes quality firearms so yeah I doubt it's cheap.
The company never mentions the weight is wounderful for older people who cant handle a 10 lb rifle
It's actually hard to find rifles that have the proper twist rate to achieve the accuracy you get with less common calibers.
And those aren't even that uncommon.
I need a lightweight .17 remington!!!
Looks light. All the other bolt rifles with these kinda specs are 3-6000bucks, so I'm going to expect this rifle to be in that range, and thusly one I will only say nice things about, since I likely won't be able to shoot one anytime soon, much less own one.
Arbhall McDougall The MSRP is $1799 probably be sold at gun stores for $1500-$1600
Kane Jones Damn. Thats a really good price. Especially with that name. Thank you.
But are they controlled feed?
It is a very nice rifle but I feel like if it comes Barrett it should be in more of a weapons System package
$1799.00 retail price
so this orrrrr Kimber mountain ascent?
Both!
Why does miles look like he's doing the pee dance halfway through the video
most have some recoil to it. if it's that lightweight
Do you mean they aren't trying to produce a sub $300 centerfire rifle? LOL
So. Uh. Where's the threaded muzzle?
Thystaff Thywill right? The Kimber Adirondack 84M come with such, and is only a few ounces more, but streets for about $1,575
and where are the iron sights?
MegaAppleshit Few high end hunting rifles come with iron sights any more, though it would be nice if they were an option.
River Styx Armory no, maybe a Thunderbeast Arms Ultra 7 titanium suppressor. ;)
James Stevick get a Crux Suppressor.
You can buy straight pull action hunting rifle for less money and same quality. It's says Barrett that's why...
Will this kill an elk as dead as a sub 1k rifle? 😀
No, it'll kill you less dead than that rifle will when you carry it around for days on end.
That's a buetefull I shoot a 308
first
James 121 what is wrong with you?
someones mad they didn't get first.....
better luck next time
Hmm, blind magazine and no thread on the barrel.
Not something I would buy, even if I got the money.
Wtf is in that kids hair?
whole lot of talking no showing nothing just repeated the same stuff you can read
why they call a 5k dollar rifle a hunters... rifle!!! they obviously never met us montanans!!
So they copied what Ultra Light Arms has been doing for years.
you can find better rifles for cheaper
Overpriced as all hell.
You can build or buy a rifle with the same ballistics for nearly a quarter of the price.
I dunno about rifles but I've done a lot of outdoors with cameras and I can tell you that weight really is a big issue :p
It’s extremely hard to build a 5 pound rifle. Idk what you’re talking about.
