  • Barrett Firearms Manufacturing has usually been more concerned with Military and LE customers than the hunting crowd. Until recently that is, with the company brining to market their Fieldcraft line of extremely lightweight hunting rifles in a multitude of calibers. Coming in at around five pounds per rifle, the design has really shaved weight from a traditional hunting set up.

    Now convince optic manufacturers to produce light compact optics like they did in the 90s to benefit a light rifle

    Had to retire my heavy weight, 8.7 lbs. Ruger M77 30-06, after 40 years of faithful service, Great Rifle, many good memories. I Bought this one in 25-06, 6.5 lbs. with scope. At 64, I still have a passion for western mule deer hunting, and this rifle is going to be a pleasure to hunt with. Do to its light weight it still recoils about the same as my 30-06 but when I take that one shot at a nice Buck I never even notice it!

    This is a better rifle than the Kimber light mountain rifle in many ways but especially quality of build. You will ALWAYS get excellent accuracy with a Barrett.
    I have a 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro that weighs about one pound more than the lightweight Barrett. I'd say this Barrett hunting rifle is equal in quality to the X-Bolt Pro. Like the Barrett my 6.5 PRC X-Bolt Pro has a 1:7 twist to handle the heavier 6.5 bullets you would shoot in a 6.5 PRC cartridge.

    For those concerned about price, at :3:00 below the rifle is the end of a sheet displaying the retail price of $1,800. Not outlandish, considering the Kimber Adirondack 84M is in that range as well.

    Looking forward to the review/compression video that shows whether or not people should jealous of the people that bought one of these or shows we can point and laugh ;)

      If it does prove to be really accurate then it'll just be a budget Christensen arms

      SOCAL3800 - Yeah, it's more but after taking your new Remington to your local gun guru to get the bugs fixed, one of these rifles may be very inexpensive. I'd like to see one of these once they start hitting the stores. If the msrp is 18, they might sell for 14-16, once the initial rush dies down. I'd try one for less than 15.

    That is a beautiful looking rifle.One question though having in mind the light weight would follow up shots be more difficult on account of the higher recoil that this gun would have ?

    • @kanejones99
      @kanejones99 7 років тому +1

      Most of the time when you're hunting you wouldn't really need a fast follow up show but when you mount a scope that'll make it a bit heavier

      Also remember you still have to cycle the bolt, maybe fractionally slower but it's nothing like the difference it could make with a self loader.

    I would love to have one of these but I usually use 7mm STW for Elk and it isn't a real common round.

    • @moonlighter6
      @moonlighter6 7 років тому +1

      I think you have described at least one reason Barrett chose 7mm-08 for the Fieldcraft bolt-action. But 308 makes better sense, a hunting buddy reloads his/mine for hunting and we both already have a variety of rifles that use the rounds.

    Looks light. All the other bolt rifles with these kinda specs are 3-6000bucks, so I'm going to expect this rifle to be in that range, and thusly one I will only say nice things about, since I likely won't be able to shoot one anytime soon, much less own one.
