  • I show how to replace a dim VFD with an OLED display on the Advantest R6581T multimeter, this also works for the R6581 and R6581D.
    This is from the work by Mickle T. on the EEVblog forum, who has done some amazing work documenting this multimeter.

    Note, for the OLED you may need to change the 0 Ohm resistor jumpers to change the mode to be 4-wire SPI, I had to do that on my units.
    I really appreciate the donations and support I get from my Patreon Supporters and UA-cam Members, donations really do help me to make content for the channel and buy broken test gear, this hobby gets expensive !: defs.link/?u=f...

    Awesome work by MickleT, he's given many R6581(T) users a way forward with dim displays.

    With some of my projects, I have to use displays that don't actually "fit" the original space.
    What I normally do is to design a new bezel that fits the old space around the edges and then the display fits right into the middle of that.
    For the types of displays I use, this also makes mounting easier.

    Blue gets through the tint decently.

    Hello, first of all mad respect. Old sand n** does not mean you evil. But I can remember, from some years ago, a similar project done by a friend of mine where the EMC from the MCU caused issues for the test equipment. OLEDs are notorious EMC pigs which fart out a LOT of EMV due to the integrated SMPS on the planar. I would suggest a test of the system, or an attempt to recal just to be safe.

    OLED? not worried about burn-in?

    • @TheDefpom

      @@yoeribolderdijk1257 no, if it gets bad it’s not much hassle to replace it, I’ve had oled on devices operating for over 4 years and still fine, sure it is a thing, but it’s not a big deal.

      Nice upgrade on the display system. That should work for years.

      The OLED screen cost 10 euros. When it does, just buy another one.

    Hmm, interesting but bit wierd? With all the effort for programming, getting all protocol working properly - why not make single replacement PCB with keypad and everything to mimic original board? This way it's 15 minute mod project, instead of all that pain de-soldering original glass? Surely simple 2-layer PCB wouldn't be that expensive...

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  День тому +1

      @@xDevscom_EE the interface IC that controls the front panel would need to be replicated as well, along with all of its communications to the main board, I don’t see that being so easy to do. A drop in replacement would be great but I’m certainly not the one to do it…. Where’s Ian?

    • @Ismsanmar
      @Ismsanmar 5 годин тому +1

      He is making that pain desoldering the original glass because he wants to keep it because it's dim, but not busted. This mod was made by Mickle to replace broken screens. In that case, you can cut the screen leads instead of desolder them and make the job a 5 mins project.
