Your fleet philosophy is very similar to mine. I'm going to enjoy this series.

I found an Odyssey yesterday and I have elite helmsman. However, the zero flex boost from the perk does not seem to work with the ship (shields up). when I have my shields up while running the apogee, it does. Any clue what I’m missing?
starsector is a game i really like.
what i don't like about it (probably the only thing) is the ship price/balance.
you can easily make a quick buck by trading or attacking some convoy, or even a couple of bounties or exploring. and then you can buy the best ships. equipping them how you like will take time, but you still can have some of the best ships in like 30 minutes.
ideally for me it would have needed a bigger investment. like you should have to spend time with starter fleets, and slowly build your fleets toward larger hulls.

Well if you don't spend story points to run from fights/save scum, it's actually really easy to lose your fleet and start from scratch. Even if you take the fight, it's very possible you could lose for a number of reasons.
For this reason, I'm kind of glad ships are easy to come by. IMO you don't reach stability until you can print your own ships, but by then you're in the late game anyway.
@@GrumpyThumperGaming yeah, but when you loose your ships, like you did in the other series, it's not that big of a deal. it's like a little setback.
I mean, an eradicator is less than a 100k :D
and yeah, i get your point, it's just how the game is balanced, but that's what i'm talking about. i kind of dislike this balance.
it's easy to get ships. kind of easy to loose them.
i remember your tutorials when you showed different fleet combination and how you use a different anchor for them, like a destroyer for early fleet, cruiser for later, and capital for endgame fleet... but technically the early fleet is for like 20 minutes, unless you leave your ships on purpose to fight a low bounty or something.
don't get me wrong, i still love the game, and i play it all the time. it's just a little gripe i have with the system that i wish was somehow differently balanced. not sure how exactly, but...
