  • The British and Irish prime ministers have issued a joint statement calling for calm after days of rioting in Northern Ireland.
Police in Belfast say the violence is the worst they have seen in recent years, scenes that many had believed were a thing of the past.
During an emergency session of the Northern Ireland Assembly politicians on all sides lined up to condemn the violence.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Ireland Correspondent Emma Vardy.

Yeah they made arrests but it did more harm because it dramatically increased members to the IRA afterwards.

@@jail.6000 No the comment was not aimed at you Jai. Not so much a colonization but a two way benefit ,Scottish farmers/engineers did move to N.Ireland but they turned bog land into farm land, and brought prosperity. The result was that the Irish population grew to 8 million before the famine.

Is this really the worst it has been in "a number of years", or just an over-exaggeration? I was under the impression that these events occured fairly regularly there?

There will only be peace when British rule is abolished and all Unionists have moved to England and Ireland is a unified island as the Irish Republic. These are not walls of peace, but concentration camp walls. The British imprison the Catholics, just like the Nazis did with the Jews in the concentration camps. Freedom for Northern Ireland, down with the occupying power. The United Kingdom is no better than Nazi Germany. I am not a member of the IRA, just a person from continental Europe who has a different opinion about Northern Ireland than it is mainstream.
