I actually think it's one of the best value gibsons you can buy honestly. Its got all the right sounds, Got Gibson on the headstock if thats important to someone and these ones that are getting abit older can be got for a decent price. ideal. Just shame about my fussy fret preferences haha
I checked out this video because I have one of these as a well as a real 1961. The 2010 goes to gigs, the 1961 stays safely at home. I liked your take on the guitar but have never really minded the frets. Oddly my 1961 has jumbo frets, but they're in great shape so probably not original. And a nod to your playing, thought it was very good, just the right approach to demo and accurately hear both guitars, not a ton of disto or shredding. Then you say you've got only 5 years at it. Fine stuff, good on ya mate.
I found the very same issue with the narrow frets on my 61. I tried everything for several months to acclimatise myself for them but just couldn’t get along with them. I’ve now had the Guitar refretted with medium jumbo and it’s perfect.
I have this one in white. Yes. I've been toying with having it painted like Clapton's "The Fool". That would be very cool. SG is a Les Paul with a slightly different character from the thick one. They're much lighter and much better for playing at the highest frets. SG is my guitar of choice for long sets/gigs and for touring. They don't drag you down when carrying them and you can take them on board with you when you fly. In a soft case they easily fit into a airliner's coat closet and/or overhead compartment. If you find a good one, my advice: do not hesitate, snatch it up.
@@Paul-D Well, I did that on many occasions. I suppose that there may be some overheads that are two small or already full of others' stuff, but the ones on the airplanes I flew on were fine. There is always the coat closet.
I've got a 2008 61 reissue. Great neck and overall an excellent guitar. FYI, the inlay on the headstock is HIGHER than on the standard. It's a tell tale way to distinguish between the two.
The secret will be out the bag before too long and that era will start getting more expensive haha I couldnt remember which way round it was in the heat of the moment haha - downside to never having a script i suppose 😅
@@Paul-D at least when i bought it in 2010 for 1365€ it was. I was looking for an sg and tried an standard too for a little less money but there was no argument. The standard sounded generic an the 61 had that bite and classic crunchy tone. No contest
Yeh the new prices are a different chat in all brands now. Theyve gone abit nutty. But you can still find a similar era used ‘61 for about £1100 and i think it would be reallly tough today to spend 1100 on a Gibson and beat this.
Not sure which ones other then the Custom have ebony. But for a few years around 2013 they made the SG standard basically a ‘61 with modern frets and regular headstock and neck join

I bought a used 2007 61 reissue a few years back. Been playing 45 years and for the first time I now have everything I've wanted in a guitar.

no way haha. I still believe the SG is the best value offering from Gibson you can get. And especially the SG 61

I'm partial to the 2004 61 reissues. That's tge one I had, with the 57 classics.
the 57 classics just work so well especially on an SG I think
I like those Eastmans, but the SG sound is thicker and full.
Just has more gibson sound that your familiar with i think

Between the SG 61 reissue and the SG 61 Nashville reissue, the only difference is the ABR-1 style bridge ?
Ill be honest I’ve not heard of a 61 nashville reissue. But the bame suggests it would be down to how the bridge is mounted to me
