@@SamTheBeardGuy btw, I’m sure you are going to like the latest 8.2 update, if you haven’t tried it yet . Given you like felt and smooth pianos , the new Steinway D should please you .
Pianoteq has been the sound of the piano I use for practice since around 2011. I upgraded from Stage to Standard 7 a while back. I could be content with Stage in hindsight, but I'm happy for Mod to have the money for Standard. I have e.g. Komplete which has a number of sample-based pianos which are nothing compared to Pianoteq.
I own Pianoteq 8 Pro and nothing I've tried beats it for authentic playability. Also, the sound has come on a long way during the past few version. However, I still don't feel it is quite there in regards to overall sound. However, if it keeps on improving as much as the past few major releases, it will eventually replace all my sample libraries! I own around 12+ piano sample libraries and my goto is Noire. This gets me most of my work done but it doesn't sound as alive as a piano sampled in a decent room/hall with multiple mic perspectives. As a result I'm looking to upgrade it and am considering the Garritan CFX or Ivory 3.
Well done Sam, very good playing. I see you learned a lot on how to set up pianoteq that out of box sounds so perfectly unreal. If I may suggest, you can also play with the unison width (0.90 with random enabled) that also increases a bit the realism, and exclude the limiter that sounds a bit artificial. A final touch you can try is customizing the reverb, there is the possibility to use custom IR, this also help with the realism. Many thanks for this video indeed.
I bought Pianoteq 8 Stage back in July, and I really liked it but I couldn't quite get to liking some of the presets, particularly on the Hamburg Steinway....I got 2 instrument packs included, so I chose the Steinway D, which is a no brainer for value because you pretty much get two instruments, and the Steinway D is sort of the definitive concert piano sound. For the other instrument, I chose the Bösendofer 280 VC. A few days ago I upgraded to the standard version, and for my included 3rd instrument pack, I got the new Shigeru EX. The added tweaking you get with the "Standard" software is a huge game changer. Although I am a piano tuner/technician, I haven't messed with the actual instrument model tweaks, I'm getting some beautiful results playing with the microphones and their placement. The new Shigeru Kawai EX is a nice addition.

It has the best playing experience/feel/touch/etc, hands down, but it has a few seemingly little probpems wigh its sound, one of these little weird things about its sound is its attack part of the sound, it reminds me of e-kick drum pitch pluck-style envelope sound, and I tried for the longest time and I can't unhear it, and it really bothers my ears, it makes it sound fake piano sound to my ears, and my ears are not even that sensitive to timbre. What is interesting is that of the videos I've watched, I've seen the concept of exactly what you are talking about. Pianoteq has something extra that makes it seem different even on the same controller board from other libraries, whether they're modeled or sampled. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on a new board as well as Pianoteq. And I'm afraid I'll just get lost in the sound for weeks. :)
I’ve used and loved PT for several years now. Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, but you can freeze settings like the condition slider and your preset velocity curve globally so that you don’t have to adjust them every time you change a preset. I believe it’s under that snowflake icon near the top of the GUI. Thanks for your inspirational playing!
That's super helpful to know, I never really tohught about it being a feature I needed until I started flying through presets for the video haha. Thanks for telling me.
Newbie here..can someone please advise how I would connect IPad or MacBook Pro to a P-105 Yamaha keyboard that has a midi output to use this Pianoteq software assuming it runs on an iPad or MacBook?
Sorry for asking such a noob question, but can I use Pianoteq/Keyscape with my Clavinova CSP-295? Can I connect with MIDI wireless or wired to the computer and then have the Pianoteq samples being played back through the pianos speakers?
In comparing the two VSTs of Pianoteq and Keyscaoe, I have noticed Pianoteq sounds better through speakers than Keyscape. Yet Keyscape sounds better through headphones than Pianoteq. It is a strange anomaly.... I think with speakers Pianoteq can breathe with the room as it is completely raw where as Keyscape is quite heavily processed. Plus through speakers Pianoteq you can just dig in and that bass resonance is heavenly, you can easily be deceived into believing it is real. I think the stereo width is better in Pianoteq but you have more options so it is a bit of unfair comparison. The only weakness of Pianoteq is sometimes it can feel a bit too spongy and soft compared to Keyscape especially when digging in and the mid range is still off slightly. Both are amazing instruments and lead the way in my opinion in there retrospective fields.
Yeah I can see that. We are talking about very processed vs. no processing, no it's going to feel different ways in different mediums. But you are right, at the top of the game in their respective fields
Yes, this is my take as well, even though I have yet to try keyscape. I find pianoteq rather dull in headphones. But with good speakers... yeah, sound so alive and realistic. I imagine pianoteq is really good live for this reason.
This is amazing , bringing my rolnd fp30x to next level, any experience it‘ll work with bluetooth midi (iOS) connection fine without any input delay ?!
It sounds really nice and it's a great software. Based on the facts that I'm a beginner, I don't really need it and that after trying the demo I realized I'd probably chase more after buying more instrument packs, choosing the right instrument and tinkering, than playing, I realized it's not probably the right choice for me. I'm thinking about the UVI Austrian Grand, as it's cheaper than all Pianoteq versions and I love the Bosendorfer sound - it's also what I have on my main digital piano, albeit in lower quality.
I have Pianoteq 8 and I notice octave key above the middle C (C5)the keys are a bit louder and jumps out of the mix when playing live. Specially the G5. Anyone also noticed it? I don’t have that issue with other VST pianos.
Nothing like that here, so I would also suspect the keyboard. Anyway since it’s possible to edit each note (with standard and up) even if it was a problem with pianoteq, you can fix it yourself.
I don’t believe it’s the keyboard because I have 4 other piano VST and they don’t have that issue. Yes, it is on the latest version. Thank you for the reply.
I had similar problems. I traced the issue to the freeze parameters. I think the volume one and the dynamics one makes it so that some keys get loader when switching between presets. Try turning off the freeze and flip through all of your presets. That should reset them. Hope this helps
MAudio Hammer 88 is one of my favorites, unfortunately it's too big for my tray, so I use the Korg D1. Korg D1 is still great, but the Hammer 88 feels really nice in that $500 price
@@Jonathan193728 I have the D1 and can confirm that there are no latency issues using a traditional midi connector. In fact, in my experience, traditional midi works better than USB midi. Once you have the 5-pin midi connector at the back of your audio interface, you should be fine. Alternatively, you could use a midi to usb cable
@@SamTheBeardGuy, great sound ! And great playing too ! 👍 Modart's technology leaves that of samples in the lurch, in my opinion. The sensitivity is incomparable, especially with a good master keyboard like the Korg D1 or the Kawai MPC1
Nope, not close enough! I just tried the demo and had great hopes after watching several videos such as this one, but when playing it I found something was off & didn't sound right. It sounded synthesized/digital at times. I did not feel like I was playing an actual grand piano. The low mid range is where it sounds most fake, or at least not like a real grand...the area where you and others say it sounds warm and great, I found it sounded like I could program my DX7II synth to get the same piano sound in that range. Higher notes were better, and many of the lowest notes were ok, but all 88 notes lacked realism when hitting the keys the hardest I would normally play. Then I compared it directly to my Yamaha Montage 8 sample based CFX, C7 and Steinway grands, and it was night and day. The Sample based grands sounded & felt real.
I wish they had a better EP sound. The Hohners really suck. but its my goto turn on the computer and have it in the bkd prog because it saves every single thing you play in an archive folder so if you blast something out, a few days later you can retrieve it easily I really wish they would get their crap together for a good rhodes sim then it would be so essential great real piano sounds, lots of variations very small size and ram footprint records every note you ever play on it runs on windows tablets just fine.
I try Pianoteq every time they come out with a new version. Each time I get the impression it just sounds like every no name grand piano I have played. You know, you see these grand pianos in a church or a school auditorium and it has a brand name like Stuart or Henry Miller on it. It is impressive as it is software and not sampled. It just sounds kind of OK.
@@nugzar.paitchadzepaitchadze He already wrote it one comment earlier: "PianoTeq in some the more advanced music types, like jazz, classical". So why do you ask?
Which VST would you recommend for live use in a church band (drums, bass, electric guitar, keys)? And if it is Pianoteq, which model? I definitely would appreciate a video on this subject (pardon me if you already have one).
I really like what I'm hearing and have now tried the trial version today. I use a Kawai VPC-1 88-key midi piano controller with both the Synthogy Ivory II American Concert D, and the VI Labs True Keys. While searching this morning for a stand alone midi sound module for my VPC-1 because I'm tired of firing up the computer every time I want play piano, I then learned about this Pianoteq 8 software. I downloaded the trial Standard version and began messing around and was highly impressed. I have a yacht load of money tied up in the five piano sample sets I've been using for 7 years, only to see that Pianoteq offers a cruise ship load of pianos for a fraction of my current investment. This of course means I still have to use a computer with this gawd awful monitor sitting on my piano case which I was trying to get rid of. While I should've gotten a Kawai MP11 with built-in sound engine, I chose the VPC-1 controller because of it's RM3 grand piano action with woodcore keysticks and textured synthetic keytops. Guess I might add Pianoteq 8 to my list of software, keep the computer but upgrade standard monitor to a touch monitor for easier access and control. By the way I love your piano playing and could listen to that all day with a breaks on Mon-Wed-Fri to avoid overload.
I go hot and cold with Pianoteq especially since I own UVI Ravenscroft 275. Maybe I need to upgrade and try again. I think I get disapointed by a lot of vst's when I want to use them in a live situation, I find they can sound thin and lack body. They always sound great in headphones though🤣. But if i compare my Kawai ES920 against these VST's the Kawai wins hands down thorugh my pa (even though I know it shouldn't). It's just that the Kawai is meant for live use and vst's are happiest in your headphones. Maybe I just don't have the eq right in my live setup for my VST's (coming out of my Focusrite of course). I must admit to preferring not to mess with eq too much, else can make it even worse.
Yeah it just depends on the environment. For a lot of live stuff you're probably going to need to do some treatment. I love PianoTeq in the studio, not using it a ton live
Le problème n'est de de savoir si le pianiste est talentueux ou non mais bien la nouvelle version de Piano-teq. En tant que pianiste en ce qui me concerne intégrer des orgues était déjà une erreur. @@jakeperl5857 Yes, totally makes sense. I have not been in a place to have a rig setup for a few years and I miss it. I have been looking into it quite a bit lately because I want to build out a new workstation/board setup and have been looking at a lot of different boards and looking at Pianoteq (No question I will get it). :)
Amazing!!!!!
How much difference do the 192khz audibly make in the pro version? Would love to have that without spending that much money.
I doubt it'll be that audible. No one can hear that type of quality
Newbie here..can someone please advise how I would connect IPad or MacBook Pro to a P-105 Yamaha keyboard that has a midi output to use this Pianoteq software assuming it runs on an iPad or MacBook?
buy a midi to usb connector and plug it in to the computer.
@@SamTheBeardGuyThanks.
Sorry for asking such a noob question, but can I use Pianoteq/Keyscape with my Clavinova CSP-295? Can I connect with MIDI wireless or wired to the computer and then have the Pianoteq samples being played back through the pianos speakers?
You would need an audio interface and speakers, don't think you can send audio back to the keyboard.
Can u recommend what type of speakers to use, to make it feel and sound like a real upright ? Or even 80% near ?
I have HS80's
@@SamTheBeardGuy which one though on a desert island? Can only choose one lol....
I’ve had some pretty noticable delay with the Yamaha bluetooth midi dongle on Pianoteq ios. You’re best of with a wired connection
I get that, if you're a beginner beginner, pianoteq might be overkill. UVI Austrian is great, I did a video on it if you haven't checked it out yet.
What controller are you using? Sounds great!
Korg D1
I have Pianoteq 8 and I notice octave key above the middle C (C5)the keys are a bit louder and jumps out of the mix when playing live. Specially the G5. Anyone also noticed it?
I don’t have that issue with other VST pianos.
I don't think I have that issue, are you sure your keyboard doesn't have an issue with that note, or is just when using PianoTeq?
Did you update to 8.2?
Hi! You're awesome!
Which 88 midi keyboard/digital piano is best in your experience with piano vst sounds?
In terms of keybeds etc..
Thanks!
MAudio Hammer 88 is one of my favorites, unfortunately it's too big for my tray, so I use the Korg D1. Korg D1 is still great, but the Hammer 88 feels really nice in that $500 price
@@SamTheBeardGuy see that the D1 doesn't have usb, are u connecting it with midi? Any latency issues with the daw?
@@Jonathan193728 I have the D1 and can confirm that there are no latency issues using a traditional midi connector. In fact, in my experience, traditional midi works better than USB midi. Once you have the 5-pin midi connector at the back of your audio interface, you should be fine. Alternatively, you could use a midi to usb cable
@@SamTheBeardGuy I think the SL88 Grand has the best price/quality/features available :)
Thanks a lot for your video ! Could you tell us the midi controller you use for the video ?
korg D1. Thanks for watching!
@@SamTheBeardGuy, great sound ! And great playing too ! 👍
Modart's technology leaves that of samples in the lurch, in my opinion.
Kde jsou zatraceně titulky?
it's called the " default " pianos.... lol you're a great player...you do them justice. New Kawai ?
How does yours sound so crisp? Are you doing any EQ adjustments at all?
I wish they had a better EP sound. The Hohners really suck.
but its my goto turn on the computer and have it in the bkd prog
because it saves every single thing you play in an archive folder
so if you blast something out, a few days later you can retrieve it easily
I really wish they would get their crap together for a good rhodes sim
then it would be so essential
great real piano sounds, lots of variations
very small size and ram footprint
records every note you ever play on it
runs on windows tablets just fine.
The only thing I don't like about Pianoteq is the transients. It just sounds a bit off to me
I've found making a few adjustments in the plugin helps with that
I try Pianoteq every time they come out with a new version. Each time I get the impression it just sounds like every no name grand piano I have played. You know, you see these grand pianos in a church or a school auditorium and it has a brand name like Stuart or Henry Miller on it. It is impressive as it is software and not sampled. It just sounds kind of OK.
Hi, can you tell me what keyboard you re using?
Korg D1
@@SamTheBeardGuy thank you
Does it run as a standalone or are you using like UVI etc?
standalone and as a plugin. I'm using it as a plugin in this video
In your opinion, is better piano than native instruments?
Yes, it's way more detailed. I use grandeur a ton live, but PianoTeq is hard to beat in when it comes to authenticity and customization.
what do u think , keyscape is batter or pianoteq
different uses. PianoTeq in some the more advanced music types, like jazz, classical... keyscape for more pop stuff
@@SamTheBeardGuy and what would u suggest for classical ?
@@nugzar.paitchadzepaitchadze He already wrote it one comment earlier: "PianoTeq in some the more advanced music types, like jazz, classical". So why do you ask?
Pianoteq is getting better, but still the high notes do still not sound correct. From C4 downwards it sounds really good.

Really?! No way, I'll totally check it out
Thanks!!
Will it include MainStage concert files in the future? Would love that
@@ijmball123 Me and a buddy are working on building a mainstage concert for worship, hoping to release this year.
Which VST would you recommend for live use in a church band (drums, bass, electric guitar, keys)? And if it is Pianoteq, which model? I definitely would appreciate a video on this subject (pardon me if you already have one).
I do have a contemporary worship and MainStage one. I love grandeur and gentleman and noire felt love. Keyscape is great too
Thx for replying. Which Pianoteq model(s) are you using exactly for contemporary worship, and in MainStage?
Buy iPad or iPhone and run pianoteq on that. No need to fire up your computer anymore. Works really well for me.
Is this the Pro or Studio?
I'm pretty sure Pro.
@@SamTheBeardGuy It can clearly be seen on the screen (the Pianoteq GUI shows it). 😉
Which 4 instruments is recommended to pick from the Pro?@@SamTheBeardGuy
Is this sample based or synthesized?
Physically modelled
Is it me or does it sound very digital?
It comes in super raw and dry, adjustments really take it to the next level. I just loaded up presets
Can I ruin it by making it a lo fi piano 😂?
nothing can be ruined by making it lofi haha
