A Heart block Poem to remember AV blocks that you may find useful :)
if the R is far from P, then you have a First Degree.
Longer, longer, longer, drop! Then you have a Wenkeback.
If some P's just don't get through, then you have a Mobitz II.
if P's and Q's just don't agree, then you have a Third Degree.
Thank u, and
*PR interval*
a.first degree- constant, prolonged
b.wencke - keeps on prolonging until
a dropped QRS
c.mobitz ii - constant, normal or prolonged & periodically dropped QRS
this is awesome thank you!
Another way for Wenkebach is " Every time she *Winks* my heart drops a beat"
Thank you for this😩
Mad😂
This is going to be “He” for me😌
Thank you
THANK YOU!!!!!!! I always have so much confusion between differentiating the heart blocks. This is the best explanation I've heard yet.
Thank you👏
Totally agreed 🤗
4 years later still can relate
Best explanation!
My instructor explained this to me for 30 minutes and still I didn’t get it. I watched this 9 minute video and now I get it lol.
Most instructors over explain the simplest things. It’s called job security
You explain everything so well, thank you for taking the time and effort to teach for free on youtube. I'll definitely donate!
A few more points for quickly identifying AV blocks on exam and in practice:
1st degree AV blocks are usually asymptomatic
2nd degree AV blocks always have an irregular QRS rate, 1st does not without premature beats, 3rd is always regular
Wenkeback -> the QRS is "walking back" from the p wave
Mobitz II does not require PR prolongation
3rd degree AV blocks are usually bradycardic (40-60 for junctional, 20-40 for ventricular)
My algorithm:
Check rate
Check regularity
Check p waves
Woah this is the simplest way to remember! It only took me 5 years to find you to explain this to me lol!
I always remember this by saying “longer longer longer drop... then you have a wenkebach.” Similar to what he said but flows a little easier to me. Hope this helps someone!
I am fifth year and this is the first time I comprehend ECG!! really thank you for awesome explanation.
Simply said! Your lecture/presentation was fantastic and marvelous! Very clear! Just like on that lung sounds lecture, this one was so clear and easy to understand. For all this time, I was so confused about the differences between those Heart blocks no matter how often I studied, but now I got it!! you're an amazing teacher!!!
I already thanked "Pima Paramedics" for their video so I can't leave you out. Thanks so much for th video. I was able to figure out AV blocks in about 15 minutes because of your efforts. I'm training to be a paramedic in Ontario and it's definitely not a walk in the park. Your assistance is very much appreciated:)
Goodluck !!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Only me and the God knows what struggles I had to go through when the consultant asked me to interpret an ECG! I wish I found ya channel earlier
Oh and is it only me who jumped up from the seat when that sound came up 6:13 ???
sorry no idea what that sound is or how it made it into the video lol!
dirty medicine , your videos are the best. i cannot thank you enough. i don't comment on you tube channels. but ever since i found your channel, i have watched various systems and i can say you make every concept so easy. God bless you . i just could not resist commenting today.
Errata: Mobitz II is a regular PR-interval followed by a dropped beat
Thanks for correcting this.just about watched this right now and was like WTF
Regular PR is progressive and beat drop
Please pin this to the top of the comments so everyone who watches the video sees it. But great video, very helpful. Thank you!
PR constant and then a drop beat... perhaps there are two types of type 2 2nd degree AV nodal blocks, ie, PR prolonged and constant and or PR constant and not prolonged...
Hands down the best video I’ve seen on AV blocks. I shared this video with my entire First Aid Squad and they all love it too. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this. Simple and easy to understand. Hope my memory stands by my side and I don't look like I just had a stroke when someone puts an ECG in front of me.
look who is studying along with u !
lol..mi too
i just fake a seizure. pro tip
Ayaz Arif hahaha! Same 😒😔
I have an ecg cn sm1 pls hlp...m vry tensed
Excelent work, this is definetely the best explanation of a-v blocks I´ve ever heard
1st degree AV “Block” isn’t actually an actual block. It is more of a delay in the conduction. As can be seen, that is why QRS complexes are still present because the impulses can still pass through the AV node and into the His-Purkinje System but with a prolonged PQ or PR interval because of that delay in conduction :)
9 min of pure understanding!! Thank you for explaining this soooo well. Answered all my questions as I was thinking about them 😅
This is the best and simplest explanation I ever heard. Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it because it’s so easy to understand.
Thank you!!! Your video has helped a lot!! I was able to pass my test with a 98%!
Thank you for this. Having just competed this part of my NP studies, I found this video really useful and helpful in consolidating my understanding and learning. Makes much more sense now.
In my whole period of medical field simply ur this short video first time cleared my concept of AV block.. Hats off u for ur excellent work to made this video. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This video is awesome, thank you! I get stuck between 2nd degree Mobitz II and 3rd degree, this video helps!
Can't say thank you enough!Showing the constant intervals in 3rd degree helped. Was taught incorrectly that if the P wave "marched through" it was 2nd II.
Thank you! I always need to read up on this the day before ACLS, and this video made it simpler than any book I've seen!
"Yo man, I'm about to drop a beat. Check out my new EKG! That's Wenkebach."
Out now on Soundcloud
Good medicine, this was the hardest for me to understand for so long, now very easy. Thank you.
You are the best, Hope you win Nobel prize in education medicine !!!
This explanation is out of this world, thanks man.
That was a great discussion of AV Blocks. Thank you very much
Helping students like me pass PA school exams. Thank YOU.
Please share with your classmates !
No, you're high yield. From a cath newbie, I thank you. Great resource.
Thank you for this! I just never got a clear understanding of Wenkebach and Mobitz 2...until i saw this video.
LOLLLLLLLLL "I'm about to drop a beat, check out my EKG" barrrs
I think this is the best video on heart blocks. Thank you
1:18 1st degree AV block
2:24 2nd degree AV block
-Wenkeback/Mobitz I
-Mobitz II
4:58 3rd degree AV block
I have a pacemaker due to Bradycardia and Mobitz Type 2. Very interesting video explaining part of my condition. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I never understood 3rd degree block until you explained it.
hands down best summary I've come across
Thank you so much. I wish you all the food in the fridge.
Thank u , I was struggling with 3rd degree AV Block and now understood. Thanks again.
Love it! Doctor you are absolutely fantastic
Thank you. I seem to get it now. Never can figure them out from each other. Clear as crystal
Dr dirty this is just beautifully explained
God bless u
Wow!!! I like how simple it is explained. Thank you!!
In my lecture notes, for mobitz type 2, PR interval does not lengthen but stays normal and there's a dropped beat.
Also I said the prolonged PR interval in my practical exam and my examiner corrected me saying there's no 1st degree in mobitz type 2
Thanks. Clear, concise, easy to follow and great mnemonic !
omggggg you just made life so much easier I was ready to quit omggg now I feel a lot better for my exam tomorrow omg
Excellent explanation. As former educator myself, I appreciate your simple yet thorough explanations. You make it easy to understand. The AHA could take some lessons from you! Great job!
I am glad you explained it. Thank you soo much
Man I have watched many vides but yours are unique. I can only say thank you so much!
This was really helpful...thank you so much...I have my exam tomorrow 😭you saved me
Thank You So much! Best explanation so far on how to memorize and understand the difference.
Thank you for explaining heart blocks. I do my psychomotor skills for NR paramedic and I always get 2nd degree type 1 and type 2 heart blocks confused. Thank you!
I’m backwards i always get 2nd degree t2 and 3rd confused lol
Thank you.. you've made this much easier to remember...
there will be 2:1 very imp in 3rd degree block ...2 p for every one qrs.
Thank you so much for simplifying it to this extent! Love this video!
Nizzz video ....and its very helpful for me .....I'm love it ..so enjoy ....
I always confused between mobitz II and 3rd degree but now , no more than thank you 😊
Thank you for this! You have the best way to explain ever!
You are a good teacher! very understandable and good voice for teaching!
Dude that was simply brilliant. Lemme drop a beat for you..
Thanks. This helps me so much to understand in a simple way.
Incredible video. Can’t thank you enough for these.
Prob the best explanation ive heard
If the Q is far from P, then you have a first degree.
Longer, longer, longer, drop. Then you have a Wenkebach.
If some P's don't get through, then you have a Mobitz II.
If Q's and P's don't agree, then you have a third degree.
You new Dock's rock.....Remember, we had no computers like you,,..
Hi! Can you please make a video with the cardiovascular physiology graphics ? It will be very helpful.
This is a fantastic video and explanation! Thank you!
Well explain, great video. Getting to understand the AV block and drop beat. much thanks,
Wenkebach sounds like walking back, the p is walking back (widening PRI) until it is dropped
I'm still not seeing or understanding the difference between the two second degree AV blocks they look the same to me
Excellent definition of the 3 Bradyarrythmia's
This is phenomenal!!! Thank you!!!
Great explanation! Short & concise.
But is there a particular lead we should be looking at to identify the blocks? This was very helpful, thank you.
👌👌👌👌👌Nice Explaination..very useful & easy to understand
Love ur work. Thx. Deborah in Australia 🇦🇺👏🏼❤️🕊✌🏼💫
It was easy to understand. Thanks so much for the video.
great description of AV blocks
You’re awesome explainer thanks for your effort.
I want to correct something in Mobitz type 2 there is no PR interval prolongation.
BEST EVER POSTED!!!! SO SIMPLE!!!! THANK YOU

Your videos are great and have been helping me a lot, but I wanted to point out that in the EKG video, when you are talking about QRS prolongation, your arrows are actually pointing to the T waves instead of the QRS complexes. No hate, just trying to help!
mobitz type II has no change in PR interval (no prolongation!*)
Wow..I learned so much in less than 10 min!
Very precise explanation! Thanks for your video!
Thank you very much! you made it easy to understand the AV Blocks
Dope video! Where have you been during my entire cardiac career 😂😂
Great job. Continue producing videos. Sooo useful.
Thank you, very clear explanation, got it now
