This song speaks to the deep love I have for my partner of 35 years. I was fortunate enough to marry my high school sweetheart, she was 14 and I 17. I was an uninvited guest to her birthday party. We never met or saw each other before that night. I remember to this day the first time ever I saw her face; it was love at first sight, and even after so many years together as husband and wife, her beauty both inside and out, melts my heart. We opened the dancefloor to this song on our wedding night under the stars in a tight embrace, we danced together, eyes closed with tears of joy flowing. Thank you Ms. Roberta Flack and everyone involved in writing and producing this song. Mutual love can be so beautiful.

I will admit, when I was a teenager in 1975, I used to listen to this song over and over on a 45 RPM! It would just repeat and repeat. I would fall asleep on the floor in front of the stereo listening and waking to this song again! What a privilege to hear such this fantastic composition. Thank You Roberta!
Amazingly, she's playing the piano as part of her own accompaniment while she's singing!! This is not easy 😕. You'll usually do one thing fine and really botch the other..She sings beautifully with nuance and delicacy, while also playing the piano 🎹 😀 as she sings. Amazing to me... 😅

On my parents wedding day my mom walked down the aisle to this song. To this day this song makes me cry because my parents were the epitome of this song. They met Dec 25, 1973, got engaged Fed 14, 1974 and were married on Aug 17, 1974 and were married for 25 days shy of 25 years when my dad passed away. My mom never remarried and always wore her wedding ring and eventually got an eternal wedding ring of my dads name in his eye color on her ring finger. Their love was so pure, whole and perfect. They loved each other beyond their souls. When my mom passed away a year ago, my dads spirit was there waiting to take her home with him and I know I’m my heart that they have cherished every day in the past year together. This song describes their love perfectly and makes me ball my eyes out to this day. I wish songs today could be this powerful.

Is that what people are doing now...hopping from video to video and now drawing a long bow with COVID-19 in the hope to get the most likes??? Suppose its better than the cliche 'who's listening in....' comments.
I was 22 (now 74) when this song first came out and I had recently lost the love of my life. He had just married someone else and my heart was shattered. I have never gotten over him. And every time I hear it I remember how I felt about him "the first time ever I saw his face" and I cry.
I can’t get enough of this beautiful performance , Roberta playing piano and singing is mesmerizing , back to back Record of the Year Grammy ! Love you Roberta …
I've watched so many covers of this from Celine to George Michael to Jennifer Hudson and no one comes close to the original. Especially during the verse where Roberta floats from high to mid to low to mid and back to high. Its SO effortless where other singers either struggle or avoid it altogether by switching the key. She's simply one of a kind.
I love this version and Peggy Seegers version. I grew up with Roberta’s version and then later found out that Ewan MColl wrote this FOR Peggy Seeger. Peggy’s version has an otherworldly quality for me while Roberta’s is soulfully smooth. This is just a great song all around ❤
Roberta, you are the true winner. No one can compare to you. You are Unique and Original. Your voice is so Beautiful. I have heard this song since the 70's when i was a young girl growing up. Now I am 60 years old. I will never ever get tired of this song. Everlasting.
This song breaks my heart I met my husband when I was 11 we was childhood sweethearts we got married and sadly I lost him last year just 58 years old I’m broken hearted and cry constantly for him x
This is the best love song ever written. The love experience she's describing is so utterly profound; a spiritual union of two souls that attains a love 💕 unfathomable.
Roberta Flack is one of the greatest musical prodigies ever to have lived on this earth. Her singing voice was beautiful and distinctive, her songwriting was impeccable, and her piano playing was just beautiful. She is now 87 (as of this post) and suffers from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and can no longer sing. But fortunately, her wonderful music will love on forever.

I love you Roberta your voice is so amazing no one can sing this song like you I am already 71 years old every night must listen this song repeat again and again ❤
This version is so much better than the album/radio version, which, to my ears, was overproduced. The simplicity of this one suits the song infinitely better. I love it.
1st time I ever saw my husband's face was his blue eyes smiling and after 30 years of marriage when he died I saw his beautiful blue eyes and I kissed him and told him I love you, my husband till the end! I miss him!❤
My heart aches, listening to Roberta bring back memories of my Beautiful wife Bonnie. We were together 67 years, and I still remember 'the first time ever I saw her face' In love from that first night - and still to this day. I miss her Oh So Much.
The fact you had what you did Ron and the time you spent together is what this song was written for. She must have been a very special lady and you were blessed to have known her.
One of the best live performances ever. Beautiful song, perfect instrumentals and a lovely lady with an exquisite voice. It doesn’t get better than that.
This song always, forever always, reminds me of my wife who passed away unexpectedly twenty years ago. It was uncanny, I was in a restaurant and she was a waitress. And I heard, "Can I take your order?" I turned and to this day I cannot find the words to describe, when our eyes met, the instant love we both felt. For me, the whole world stood still for a long second and for her, she turned into a frozen statue. So I am shedding tears again......and all I can say, " I'll see you soon, Loredonna....I love you."
I saw her sing in the 70s in a little place called Mr. Henry's in DC. She cast a spell that captivated. Lots of people smoked then and they were listening so engrossed that the ashes would literally burn down to their fingers. She was so powerful, quietly powerful, it hit that deep place inside, where you are completely captivated. She sang reality deeper than everyday life, and it always hit home.
Mine & my husbands song. Played at our wedding. 11th March 1989. Played at his funeral 29th November 2012. Makes me cry every time I hear it. Tears of joy. And tears of heartache x

I'm 66. This is the most meaningful love song I've heard in a long time. Truly beautiful...❤
I just love Roberta Flack. This song is perfection.
Yep. The song is by Ewan MacColl
How does this not have one billion views?
Post it, I did on Facebook, do it.Everyone, post this on Facebook.
She is so lovely, what a voice
Was just gonna comment the same thing....beats me. Maybe cause there's so many youngsters online and they don't know what good music is.
That’s unfortunately reserved to mediocre music by artists like Taylor Swift and Bieber, just to name two.
Because most people and the youth prefer the shit music out there lol
Here watching again in Quarantine. Anybody else? April 5, 2020. God Bless All. Beautiful song.
Yes. Such a moving song. Always made me cry. Keep well and God Bless you.
April 11th 2020 07:01am waking up to Roberta Flack, coffee and watching the sun break the horizon. 😌🥰 Bliss.
I'm here too
Indonesia here...
Is that what people are doing now...hopping from video to video and now drawing a long bow with COVID-19 in the hope to get the most likes??? Suppose its better than the cliche 'who's listening in....' comments.
Who is still here 2024!!!!
Me!
🖐️
Here on 23 May 2024
Still here, just about everyday. What a beautiful Lady, this and "Killing Me Softly"...no one like her. We love you Roberta Flack, always...
Many thousands of people like this song and singer if not millions .even in april 2024!
This is a cover..of Euan Mcolls song.
@@andrewyates1819 Thanks for the correction! I didn't know that.
@@andrewyates1819 Indeed it is, and people should be aware of this, Robertas vocal performance though is the one, much love M
I recomend you Mat Cradle version
I love this version and Peggy Seegers version. I grew up with Roberta’s version and then later found out that Ewan MColl wrote this FOR Peggy Seeger. Peggy’s version has an otherworldly quality for me while Roberta’s is soulfully smooth.
This is just a great song all around ❤
Roberta, you are the true winner. No one can compare to you. You are Unique and Original. Your voice is so Beautiful. I have heard this song since the 70's when i was a young girl growing up. Now I am 60 years old. I will never ever get tired of this song. Everlasting.
Truly an amazing female singer, filled with emtion
Bruna: Well said! I love her voice!

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!! No one can sing this song like Roberta...actually no one can sing her songs as good as she does ❤️😊🌺🌺
This song is by Ewan MacColl though
I agree with you!
This is the best love song ever written. The love experience she's describing is so utterly profound; a spiritual union of two souls that attains a love 💕 unfathomable.
So beautifully articulated.

You'll be pleasantly surprised to hear this sung by the GREGORIAN Chant Masters right here on UA-cam. Superb!
No one sings this song like Roberta - I was amazed when I heard it in 1972, and it still amazes me.
Absolutely breathtaking! Especially when you lose your partner💔 it hits home!
Shes not the original singer songwriter of this beautiful song

Ewan amazingly hated this version ! He loved his wife's version I thought Robertas was sublime

I remember when this song was released, it was and still is one of the most beautiful and pure songs ever ! It was a beautiful time ❤
The first time...ever I heard this song, I felt the earth move in my ears! So heavenly! Just as wonderful and magical as it was 50 years ago.
This version is so much better than the album/radio version, which, to my ears, was overproduced. The simplicity of this one suits the song infinitely better. I love it.
48 years passed and you still stand out among them all. Voice, raw presence, genuine feelings....no distractions just being!

Beautiful comment :)
There's never been a song so intimate and passionate! It brings back such memories when I was 17.
probably the most beautiful love long of all time.
Probably??????????
Definitely
So beautiful 😍
No one sings this song like Roberta Flack. An absolute masterpiece. I heard it dancing with a man I loved. Sweet memories. Thank you. Beautiful video.
1st time I ever saw my husband's face was his blue eyes smiling and after 30 years of marriage when he died I saw his beautiful blue eyes and I kissed him and told him I love you, my husband till the end!
I miss him!❤
You have loved, and have been loved. That is something to hold on to.
Bless your Heart ❤️ Agreed....til the end
❤
THE most beautiful love song ever. ❤
My heart aches, listening to Roberta bring back memories of my Beautiful wife Bonnie. We were together 67 years, and I still remember 'the first time ever I saw her face' In love from that first night - and still to this day. I miss her Oh So Much.
My heart aches for you, may God bring peace to your heart some day.
You're a good man Ron, life is full of heart aches but I wish you well. You'll meet up with her when the time is right.
The fact you had what you did Ron and the time you spent together is what this song was written for. She must have been a very special lady and you were blessed to have known her.
we are all with you as much as we can be!!!!
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away - how wonderful that the taking away is only temporary but the love is forever and ever.
"and I knew our joy
Would fill the earth."
Pure poetry.
Mesmerizing, and absolutely the most romantic version of this song ever.....
I have chills
I agree
You want to hear mesmerizing listen to the GREGORIAN chant masters sing this song. That's magical and spiritual.
And I heard, "Can
I take your order?" I turned and to this day I cannot find the words to describe, when our eyes met, the instant love we both felt. For me, the whole world stood still for a long second and for her, she turned into a frozen statue. So I am shedding tears again......and all I can say, " I'll see you soon, Loredonna....I love you."
The most beautiful love song ever written and the greatest voice ever heard, a musical monument.
Outta sight! This song should be in everyone's life soundtrack.❤
Probably the most beautiful love song ever. The way she sings it is mesmerizing.
Hello friend, how are you doing today??
Hello Mary..
She was from DC, right?
She was the first concert of my life. The Paramount theater 1975, I was 18yrs old. When she sang this song, you could hear a pin drop.
yeah..
Mine & my husbands song. Played at our wedding. 11th March 1989. Played at his funeral 29th November 2012. Makes me cry every time I hear it. Tears of joy. And tears of heartache x
