Painful part of our history, it's songs like these that remind us (born in the 80's) of the reason why we don't know our fathers and too little about our mothers, because they were in the forefront preparing for our future. We need to constantly sing lest we forget the form of oppression that took our fathers away, this songs scared the shit out of the oppressors. They killed them, our children don't have grandparents 😢, the privilege we had. Painful

Looting is called capitalism when they (abelungu) do it through their "legal" and "economic" systems. Bribery is called "lobbying" when they do it through their political systems. Corruption is called "special interests" when they do it. Immigrants are called expatriates when they do it. Etc etc etc. Never ever think that they do it less than we "do it." (And don't misconstrue what i'm saying; im not condoning it, i'm not condoning ANY of it!) They do everything they complain that we do but they use fancy words for when and how they do it. Black Africans were driven off the land and marshalled into reservations in Rhodesia and South Africa (also called tribal trust lands in South Africa. Also described as security zones.) They were often in arid areas with terrible soil. That prime fertile land was sold to white farmers. When Mugabe did the same thing to those farmers they said he was stealing thier property, their land- conveniently forgetting that it was our land before their apartheid regimes stole it from us. They demanded reparations and restitution, when none was offered by their governments when it was done to us. They claimed and continue to claim that they had "developed" that land, conveniently omitting/ ignoring that it was black workers that did the actual work. Looting is everywhere. Don't let them paint an image in your mind that we are the ones that do it. -African living in the US.
