Among the top bands in NOLA you will see and hear for a tip or a beer. these are international music athletes, I love them all and I put 50 years of my spare time doing this trade, thank you..
Love the way the Upright Bass dude sings. Earnest, Intense and beautiful!! This recording is haunting me. When I finall/y win the lottery (bizarrely overdue) I want them for a private party in somewhere like Mexico.⁷
The tune itself has controversial issues but for me I love the melody, I 1st heard this tune when I was a child , my dad used to play it and he learnt it from Chris Barber very catchy notes in all registers ,love Charlie's command of the slur technique brings the magic out of the trombone 😉
Sittin' down for my Sunday afternoon reflection on how the old times need to be comin' back. Don't we have enough space. Stephen Foster is Pittsburgh boy. He did quite well. Get one of his songbooks.
Charlie caught my ear on the 1st few bars of Down By The Riverside , the man can play , trill technique seems to come so easy for him , I played for over 30 yrs , lost crucial teeth n gave up for 16/17 yrs , 2 n half Yr ago I read an article n it was like a bell going off in my head with the phrase "so it can be done" a horn was bought n the rest is well let's see 😊
It's very hard to believe that three entire years have passed since I wrote this comment. At this rate, I'll soon be as old as Pops! At any rate, I had forgotten what a great out chorus the band plays and how much Craig Flory swings throughout. He's a really good sax player. Love the white mouthpiece. And as always, Marla is unsinkable--she's a force of nature.
Hei ! Olen kuunnellut vanhaa kotiani Kentakissa ainakin 50 kertaa, aina vaan paranee !!!!! Soittajat mainioita, rytmi kuulosta mahtavalta joka kerta ! Ville Suomesta From Mikkeli
@Garry Powell. Craig Flory on alto. He's been Tuba Skinny's clarinetist for several years as of now (2022), and he sounds pretty darn good here on that alto. Wish he'd bring it to TS gigs for a nice double.
Love the music Craig Flory plays. Always the best no matter what band He plays with!!
Ditto. Loved me some Craig Flory all the way back to his 1990's Seattle daze.
You and tuba skinny are actually The
Best jazzband in the World...

Agreed, Frank. However little recognition they receive, they are among the most talented people on the planet.

Craig Flory must be twins because he seems to show up at every NOLA gig with every band.
Doug Miller Qqq
Wish he was triplets. Specially when he drags out that bass sax.
Great line up and performance!
God Damn, I love it!
Ah ! as good as it gets.
Great trombone!

The great Colin Myers..minus his trombone.. dancing up a storm.
Hats off, folks!
Really good. Thanks, Ivan. It looks as though the overdue restoration of Stephen Foster's reputation is underway in New Orleans.
Gordon: Yes, indeed. Have a look at my article:playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/post-549-thank-you-stephen-foster.html
