Pops Coffee So true Pops, so true. We are witnessing the second revival of traditional New Orleans Jazz and are fortunate to be around to hear these talented and dedicated young musicians playing this classic music. I will be driving over to N.O. on Thursday to see Shotgun at the Maison and will be requesting Royal Garden Blues for sure.
This particular configuration of The Shotgun Jazz Band has always been the best, I've watched it on and off over the years. Haruka just got better and better through the years. Gosh doesn't she make you feel for her as she welts it out through that trombone. Meanwhile John on the banjo is as regular as clockwork as he always is. Some of the bands in Japan are worth watching too.
@@raymondvanleeuwen7995 Yes Shaye does the same thing. It may not be coincidence that they are both members of the pool of musicians that make up the varying personnel of Loose Marbles.
@@markhorton3994 because by coincidence they're two great bandleaders who gravitated to the home of jazz, that's the only coincidence. Though to be truthful, I don't know if Marla is from New Orleans or otherwise.
My Goodness! This is a great video by Pops. I wondered why he fought his way through the crowd to get to the front. He is virtually sitting on Haruka's lap!. He is in fact standing at 'Guest Corner' when pals of the band and visiting musicians are invited to join in for a number or two. Shame he didn't have his cornet with him at the time otherwise he would have soon joined in with great gusto.
This is an elegant and exciting opportunity to hear the band together and particular to focus on the individual and educated style of Haruka whose techniques are not often equalled. Love her work. Where are you doll? Doing good music.
They look nothing like Jazz musicians... but boy can they play! Lol Caught me off guard. When will I learn that anyone can play Jazz no matter how they "look"? Thanks for sharing!
Judith Durham was "The most dangerous tambourine player in all of Great Britain" (and Australia presumably), but Haruka is the most dangerous trombone player in the universe. A bit restrained here, maybe she'd been warned by a safety officer.
How lucky we very old guys are to have lived long enough to witness this!

James Sterling Lucky chap! Some of us can only admire them from 5500 miles away, thanks to the kindness of video-makers.
Pops Coffee thanks for sharing. Makes me miss New Orleans even more!
@@eecorr I was just enjoying this video of awesome musicians, and who do I find in the comments, Eeco the piano hero! Keep up the good work you too
Amen sir amen! Marla Dixon knows how to make traditional jazz swing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😃👍

Haruki, Go Girl !!! This was “ Class “ Marla
and the Guys, were on 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for posting
the trombone lady has a wounderful clear sound,
Haruka-what a terrific trombome player!
She kinda looks Japanese. The Japanese are whizzes at everything.
She's unbelievably good.
Pops Coffee you are so right ,they are on fire
...to be alive and in the same space time continuum as this performance is pure pleasure...
Band leaders take note. Allowing the rest of the band to shine is what makes Marla Dixon the best there is in jazz at the moment.
Try Shaye Cohen who leads Tuba Skinny.

@@stewartfenton7660 Marla moved to New Orleans from her native Canada.
@@PopsCoffee Pops, thanks for telling me that. I really need to find out more about Marla. Seeing that I'm going to marry her.
Damn! That's HOT! Haruka really tears that 'bone up. And James blows some tasty notes on the sax.
Haruka, you are a killa on that trombone! Congratulation!
Haruka’s got it! marvelous!
She is amazing!
Must have been such fun to play this.
My God. This bone girl looks like an angel and plays like a devil. Kid Ory couldn't get his mouth shut seeing her.
Read about her in my article: playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/haruka-kikuchi-trombone.html
The link above didn't work for me, but this has several of Pops' posts about Haruka :

Grande Haruka....¡
The more I hear James Evans the more I like his playing. I would like to hear him sit in with Tuba Skinny sometime.
James Sterling You can hear him play 'Weary Blues' with Tuba Skinny in this UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/x4EawdDWF3M/v-deo.html
Absolutely amazing performance. You go guys!
Magical Music !
Superbe Haruka !
Awesome!!!!
Yes,Great trombone Haruka Kikuchi, reminds me of the Great Trummy Young who played with Louis Armstrong in the 50s! Are you familiar with Trummy?
She can play that trombone go on girl Jazz in your bones.

"Played at the request of someone in the audience." ... The cameraman perchance?
Goodness! Stand back! Animated Trombone crossing!
I like ! How lucky we are the camcorder was close to Haruka !
Ah, except that is wasn't a camcorder. It was just a cheap early-model Fujifilm Finepix camera.
Wow!
Nice!
great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

danny Barker au trombone est fabuleuse

I found Harukas voice quite weak when shes singing . But she charges her trombone
like a compressor ...!
