- This video was recorded on saturday 23rd of july 2011 @ Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki Finland.
Drums used here are Pearl Masters Premium MMP from Backline Rental Finland. The snare is a Masters Premium BRP1455S (6-ply birch).
This drum cam video was recorded using a Zoom Q3HD.
8:58 He's doing 4 blast beats while doing 3 cymbals at the same time. It's what he was talking about at the podcast today. Sounds really good with that riff
There are drummers, and then there is Kai "the alien robot god" Hahto.
The Drum God from Finland, fantastic, I love it 😎🥁👍
checking in from 2019. I sure do hope Kai comes back to Wintersun some time soon. Nightwish is doing fine but Wintersun is really missing him
Stiiiillllllllll waiting for time II :/
He's not coming back, he is now a permanent member of Nightwish, since their old drummer is'nt coming back.
@@rottingmoose33 but he is still an official member of Wintersun.
Heikki is doing a fine job. It’s down to Jari to release these songs he’s been sitting on for over 10 years now.
Not much longer now :)
Amazingly awesome :)
Sick festival line up that year!!! Wish i coulda been there... :[...
just... perfect.
fantastic,very good drummer
Playing blast beat for such long periods of time... Thats insane...
He only needs snare, 2 toms, bass drum and about 7 cymbals and a hi-hat, that's the most cymbal-heavy drumset ever.
Fantastic
I love you, Kai.
Nice quality
I don't understand how he can be that fast with that tecnique!!
Pearl artist with Yamaha hardware :) nice :)
Gonna be on Time II :)
@dahudge9 Look at his work with Rotten Sound.. Kai's incredible at playing grind also.
of course by using the fingers i mean use them for moving the sticks up and down in order to allow them to hit the drum kit
they really need to record and master this song.... they dont have a studio version of this song and its really depressing.
Vihdoinkin tänä vuonna tämä mieletön biisi näkee päivänvalon
jep
osen sanaton..kerta kaiokkiaan.kaitsu on paras
i have no words for this bestial drummer... fucking awesome!
I don't understand why Jari thought that changing the whole concept of music is the way forward ... why change something when it works, certainly also the problem is that no one else like Kai would play it live
I thought "Winter Madness" is heavy but this is crazy!!^^
Besides it's a great new song; can't wait to hear the whole Album.
Lol

12 years ago, if you're still here it's confirmed for 30th august. Unbelieveable, I know.
a friend of mine told me that if you want to be that fast you need to use fingers, because other wise you risk to break your wrists, is he wrong ? because from that camera it looks like kai hahto uses wrists and not the fingers
Why don't you guys just upload the whole show?
You can use both your fingers or your wrists, both techniques have their advantages and disadvantages. You'll usually get more power from playing with your wrists and it's a bit easier to learn/coordinate, but it requires more strength and stamina than playing with your fingers and even though you will most likely not literally break your wrists from it, it has a higher risk of injuries if it's not done correctly. It really all just boils down to what you feel more comfortable with.
Correction, 2 bass drums, 8 cymbals
also a floor tom ;)
surprised to see such a minimalistic drumkit
Minimalist setup? Two bass drums and nine cymbals does not count as minimalist in my book :)
Mustis1524 I meant the tams, there are just two of them. This must be some loan kit or something :)
***** He never uses more than two rack toms.
Nah, he always uses two rack toms and a floor tom. Sometimes he may use two floor toms.
he uses 2 hihats
I though the double bass was waaaaaay faster
5:30 what the fuck O.o
former jazz musician :D
Who the fuck moves their elbows when they blast? It's wrist or fingers.
Were you replying to someone else? Because Kai uses wrist technique.
