Now THAT was really fun to watch - I was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma when you published this last year. I'm well now and really really enjoyed the mudding - RWF
Y’all look like your having a blast. Even reminds me of my old stomping grounds back home in Florida. Can’t wait to get back home and ride some trails with my brothers.
chud327 I’m from Lisbon, Fl. Spent a lot of my time with my dad and my brothers huntin and fishin in the Ocala forest. I saw the sugar sand trails and the water it took me back lol!
I was just wondering if the welded transaxle is still holding together or of it gave out at some point? Ive been thinking about welding the transaxle in my murray but dont want it to go out while im on the trails 😅
one of my friends has some heavy cast iron garden tractors he uses to tow/hall things around the yard. he filled all his tiers with washer fluid to add wight. once i get decent tiers in the front im doing that to in the hopes the lower center of gravity makes me flip and roll less.
I love how the poulan has the smallest motor of the bunch however out performs all. It’s is a black Husqvarna after all anyways so you can’t expect any less. 👌🏻
on my John Deere X500 i have a small yellow pedel on the left side if i get stuck you stop press pedel in with your foot then the axle locks up, it has helped me every time to get unstuck.
I wish I had a magical pedal to push that locks the rear. My tractor has one, but none of my mower. The X500 is probably a better, heavier, and more expensive mower. Thanks for watching.
Hi chud327, Yeah the reason i brought it up was in case you see one for a good deal you will know it has a axle locker on it. I enjoy your video's, really liked your pontoon boat too.
I think that pontoon boat episode #4 is my favorite video yet. I will be hard to top, but part 5 should be coming out next week. I would love to find a rear locker pedal mower for sure!
Very interesting OP. I wish someone someday would explain why the designers of these rear ends decided not to lock them in the first place? The so called positrac rear ends are anything but, and have always frustrated me in a slippery spot, weather it be on my lawn tractor or in my pickup truck. It seems so stupid but they must have had a reason which I can not figure out.
I don't know, but maybe a locked rear would tear up the grass a bit when you turn. I would like to have a lock button on the dash or a lever like on my tractor. I had a 2wd Blazer with a factory locker, it was so helpful and I would have paid extra for it. It was not full time locked and would not tear up grass while turning, that would be a super addition to anything with 4 wheels... Thanks for watching.
You could be right. It would be interesting to see a locker mow grass and see if that is actually the case, What I know for sure is, the people who make these things think every lawn is completely flat, and the ground perfectly level and grass all uniform. But in my 50 something years, I've never had a lawn like that. They have all been uneven, bumpy, hills, slopes, and the worst problem is the deck height adjustment. I've never had a lawn where I've been able to lower the deck lower than the second highest notch. Like these idiots think ppl are mowing golf courses with their mowers??? FYI I just found this: 'The reason you'd want the wheels to rotate at different speeds is so when the car turns, the outer wheels will move faster than the inner ones'. HM, OK, THEN THIS: 'The disadvantage to this is that if one or more wheels have lost contact with the road -- for example, if you're bumping over rocks in an off-road vehicle -- the wheel that no longer is in contact with the road will be spinning away as if it's on the ground. Now, why would that be a problem? Because in my experience, when you get in a slippery spot, only ONE wheel turns AT ALL. THe other drive wheel NEVER turns and that's why it's so easy to get stuck. I've seen this problem even in so called four wheel drive machines. Unless the differentials are locked on both axles, only one wheel turns per axle. I've seen four wheel snow plow trucks get stuck, because only one front and one rear wheel turn. Then they have to get out and lock the diff's to get unstuck. IT's a crazy world.
Best reply lately! You are right about they must think we all live on golf courses, I don't either. And when you are stuck, the tire with the least traction is the one that spins, that is why you are stuck. In out last TroyBilt video, it was going through the ditches with one of the back tires up in the air and that was my favorite part!
these are for mowing grass and if you had a spool door locked rear end when turning it would scuff up the surface of the grass especially on fine and high-end grasses so that is why they did it also to have a much tighter turning radius which was probably the number one reason I'm glad I could answer that for you
The dually is not locked, not yet. The troy's rear doesn't look very strong, but only time will tell. I will let you know as soon as it breaks. Thanks for watching.
I found them on Craigslist for $140 for 4. They fit on 8 inch wheels. I searched "atv tires" and "golf cart tires" to find them. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Since you had the rope tied to a higger point on one of thr mowers it will have an advantage because when tention is put on it. It will lift up the other mower and take weight off of it
You will be happy to know that we put the rear fenders on today, I was worried about the bare feet belt issue too. I may have to quit taking them there, they try to flip too often... Thanks for watching.
I found mine on Craigslist by searching "atv tires" and "golf cart tires". Golf carts usually run 8" wheels. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Chud, a hydrostatic rear end can be locked but it's never been the best outcome for me, I had he same exact John Deere and when I welded the read end it tore it out. You're better off finding a manual rear end and lock it. Good job tho on the video
The Deere and the Troy both have the same size tires and wheels. They are 22X11X8's and then wheels are 8 inch. the dually back tires are 20X10X8's. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Actually, I think I did my math wrong. That engine is now on my boat motor and Emily's engine came with her. It gets confusing when you have so many. Thanks for watching the oldies, that rocks !!
man alive...what a comparison video...if this doesnt show completely that the merits of a "poor-mans-positraction"...are definetly worth the labor, i dont know what will....great video...im sure the boys have figured out tho, a turn at high speeds on dry pavement is a different bird altogether too...to my knowledge nascar still uses open or unlocked diffs on the super-speedways for that very reason....but its always kool when a mentor has already crossed the bridge in question, and just reaches into his files and says, here ya go.....once again the dad spending time with his sons cant miss, although its sorely missing from our culture today, but i know i dont have to tell a former school-teacher that, who saw it everyday in the young boys faces in class.....and thanks tim...er...uhm....i mean...chud 327...kutgw!!!!
id wanna weld up a floor board on that troy bilt one slip of that guys foot and that wouldnt be good those pulleys dont look too safe spinning like that 8:38
Great fun make sure you teach them boys if that thing starts to go over backwards to roll away from it or jump I know those little tractors aren't munch but if they go over backwards on top of a young fellow that only weighs 130 lb it's not going to feel very good I wonder if you can make some wheelie bars that wouldn't hamper off-roading ability them tractors are junk but you can't replace those boys keep having fun and stay safe
I wish it were locked, but then again, I know it is going to break as soon as I lock it. I need to find a spare rear that I could lock and install and see what happens. Thanks for watching.
I don't think a spicer would hold for that. Mine sure wouldn't. You can't do a welded locker for them, tho, because the spider gears are so small the weld won't grab.
IKR, it has some kind of internal pressure override bypass that shuts it down every time you give it a little challenge. I need to find away around that and lock it or just get a manual. Thanks for watching.
+chud327 yes I know what you were saying and I like the way you said it it totally makes sense cuz it's a new bushing but it's a used one from probably a parts tractor or something awesome keep making videos I'm so sad I lived in Canada and the reason I got upset with these tractors there was a guy selling one that had an rd400 which is a twin cylinder 2-stroke 400 street bike motor in it and the ad all it said runs drives shifts throughout years brakes work and they said it was a little rough but it looks good to me and the asking price was $400 the ad was on there for months I find it I contact the guy and then he sells it the next day go figure and then I fell in love with them and had another guy lined up for a nice old Ford hundred dollars not running but you know it would start right up with the twin headlights in front looked cool never got it and now I moved back to California and there's really nowhere around to use it but I watch your videos and others to stay satisfied LOL
Pushing the limits of the tractors! Looks super fun! Nice video!
It was a blast and thanks for watching.
Now THAT was really fun to watch - I was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma when you published this last year. I'm well now and really really enjoyed the mudding - RWF
I hope you are better and thanks so much for watching.
Y’all look like your having a blast. Even reminds me of my old stomping grounds back home in Florida. Can’t wait to get back home and ride some trails with my brothers.
This was on the Florida / Georgia line, what part of Florida are you from? Thanks for watching.
chud327 I’m from Lisbon, Fl. Spent a lot of my time with my dad and my brothers huntin and fishin in the Ocala forest. I saw the sugar sand trails and the water it took me back lol!
I am not sure about Lisbon, but I have been through Ocala several times. Thanks for the reply.
nice vid there where shoes lol love your channel tell your kids there good drivers
I will let them know and thanks so much for watching.
Locker in the dually would be badass make sure to post vid
I will be sure to make a video when I lock it, thanks for watching.
Never seen anyone have more fun out of riding mowers than this family
That is so nice of you to say and that is the goal, thanks for watching.
That mower is awesome with the locked differential! You should consider making some form of belt guard for it just Incase a belt blows.
yes on the locker! and we put the fenders back over the belts... thanks for watching.
chud327 No problem buddy I just think it’s awesome how the kids are out on it instead of playing video games.
That is my moto 100%, thanks for the reply.
Yea needs a locker dually and switch the pullys around on 1 for you to drive
What did you make that pull start outta? 2:49
Thanks for the vid, really helped me.
So glad to hear it and thanks so much for watching.
I was just wondering if the welded transaxle is still holding together or of it gave out at some point? Ive been thinking about welding the transaxle in my murray but dont want it to go out while im on the trails 😅
I don’t remember the specifics, but I have welded 2 and both broke… may need to try and test another. Thanks for watching!!
one of my friends has some heavy cast iron garden tractors he uses to tow/hall things around the yard. he filled all his tiers with washer fluid to add wight. once i get decent tiers in the front im doing that to in the hopes the lower center of gravity makes me flip and roll less.
It sounds like a really good idea, I may have to try it too. Thanks for watching.
Interesting video, now it seems very capable
It did much better. Thanks for watching.
What kind of transaxle is in the Troy-Bilt? Great comparison video.
They have been calling it a "fnr", I don't know how tough it is, but we will see. Thanks for watching.
About time you done it
Thanks and thanks for watching.
I love how the poulan has the smallest motor of the bunch however out performs all. It’s is a black Husqvarna after all anyways so you can’t expect any less. 👌🏻
Great point, maybe that is why my rear hasn't broken yet... Thanks for watching.

how many mowers did you lock?
Only 2 so far. Should do another soon... Thanks for watching!!
Could you please give me the numbers for the drive belts on the Troy Bilt Pony mud mower? I want to see if mine and yours use the same size belts.
That was a long time ago, we don't have that mower anymore. Did it say the size in the video? Thanks for watching!!
Locker's are the best 👍
I 100% agree and thanks so much for watching.
We use to weld the spider gears on demo cars.Like day and night difference.
Great video!! Is the dually locked? How durable are those mtd troybilt rear ends in your opinion?
The dually is not locked, not yet. The troy's rear doesn't look very strong, but only time will tell. I will let you know as soon as it breaks. Thanks for watching.
How do u get the gears so clean from all the grease to weld it
I clean mine with diesel, kerosine works great too. Thanks for watching.
Whenver u have to push that mower without it under its own power is it hard to push or not want to roll?
These are easy to roll as long as it is out of gear and not in the sand. Thanks for watching.
@@chud327 oh ok mine always want to spin one tire forward and one reverse and input pully is hard to turn any ideas
MIne was being hard to push, but it healed itself. I don't know what is going on with yours, good luck and thanks for watching.
Did you modify the vari drive on the troy bilt? It seems to handle better than the vari drives I have had.
It has not been modified, but it is worn out and will not go in the lower speed setting... It does go great in fast though... thanks for watching.
aye mate!
After you get a video that husky lawn tractor can you bring it through mud
Maybe someday and thanks for watching
I got the fnr trans like the troy built welded on my bolens mtd and haven't broke it yet, 820 rear end for the dually??
820 would be nice. We will see how long fnr last. Thanks for watching.
We’re did u get those dirt devil tires from
I found them on Facebook Marketplace. Thanks for watching.
Hi chud. Was wondering where you got those dirt devils and what inch rim do they fit on? Love the vids😀
It will lift up the other mower and take weight off of it
Where’s this at?
I think we must live pretty close to each other . Some of that terrain looks very very familiar
I am northeast Florida, how about you? Thanks for watching.
Enc man
how long did it take to weald the locker
5 maybe ten minutes... It was super easy. Thanks for asking.
Is that a hydro on the troy built?
no it's a geared FNR with a vari drive.
Looks like fun! Just get those belts covered before someone mangles a foot. A helmet would also be a good idea for steep/rough terrain.
You will be happy to know that we put the rear fenders on today, I was worried about the bare feet belt issue too. I may have to quit taking them there, they try to flip too often... Thanks for watching.
You guy's are having a blast. I love the dually. It would be cool with diesel engines too...
So fun! and yes a diesel would be nice! Thanks for watching.
Where did you get them dirt devils? I can not find mud tires to go on my rims. Anybody know a 20x8.00-8 tire?
I found mine on Craigslist by searching "atv tires" and "golf cart tires". Golf carts usually run 8" wheels. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Thanks man. Ill look
Good luck.

Put a cover over them pullys want any feet at the end of day
It is on the list, I will try to have it on before the next ride. Thanks for watching.

Locking the rearend sure makes a difference. I didn't realize that was an FNR transaxle but it did good.
Yep, I am curious to see how long it will last. Thanks for watching.
Haha reminds me of small engines senior year of high school (small town)
Not to be weird but I live in Florida to what part of Florida do you live
north of Jacksonville, where are you and thanks for watching.
I'd be putting a smaller pulley on that rear for more speed while romping.
The Poulan had one then and the deere has one now. Troys are had to find pulleys for, but I will still try. Thanks for watching.
what is the size of the rim and tire?
The Deere and the Troy both have the same size tires and wheels. They are 22X11X8's and then wheels are 8 inch. the dually back tires are 20X10X8's. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
You should put that winch that I asked you for on the troy built with the locker!!!
Now what time
Probably still Saturday morning...
The deere looks hydrostatic, can u lock them?
There is probably a way, but I am not brave enough yet... I will need to do more research. Thanks for watching.
People have done it before, and the locking process is the same. Only disassembly and assembly is much harder than a geared.
That is what I was thinking and I don't know if I am brave enough...
chud327 mustie1 has a vid on opening 1 up
We’re do you get ur tires
Britt Harrelson I’ve been getting all my tires off of craigslist, you can also check the Facebook marketplace. Good luck and thanks for watching.
i recognize that engine last time all saw it it was under the water at the river lol.

Hehe nice vid again sir.
Thanks and thanks for watching.
chud327 You're welcome sir. 😀
Chud u are the best i allways love your vids
And I love your comments. Thanks for watching.
what state are you from bro
I am from Florida, but the video was filmed on the Georgia side of the river. Where are you from and thanks for watching.
chud327 im from Virginia. i love your channel
Thanks so much for the reply and for the love. Virginia sounds like a nice place.
Looks like a success to me. Nice.
It worked, did good, and did not break.... Thanks for watching.
id wanna weld up a floor board on that troy bilt one slip of that guys foot and that wouldnt be good those pulleys dont look too safe spinning like that 8:38
We are planning to get the floor and fenders on before the next ride. Thanks for watching.
I like his videos
Thanks, he likes your comments!!!
Nice vid
You should put that winch that I asked you for on the troy built with the locker!!!
Wheelie bars are a super idea for the fearless acting young boys and thanks for watching.
Why? No four-wheeler?
It would be interesting to see the John Deere morph into something like a Jd gator lol.
That would be cool and thanks for watching.
Lock the John deer and deflate air pressure in th mud mowers to get better traction
Great ideas, thanks for watching.
U need to put a locker on da DIRT DEVIL DEERE!
I know, but I want to find a real (manual) transaxle first for it. Thanks for watching.
Lock the dually
What ever happened to this troy
About time you welded one....time to weld the john Deere....it would be unstoppable
That would be sweet, thanks for watching.
Dually needs a locker now
That would be so sweet, thanks for watching.
But good luck steering!
The troy built needs a pulley swap! And front suspension!
Yes it does, I will see what I can do! Thanks for watching and replying to all the other comments.
chud327 your welcome, always love your vids! Put a big smile on my face.
Thanks again, you are the best.
Where do you get the pulley for a Troy bolt?
I want to go to a 2.5?
Do u mind if I ask Ethan a question?
Sure, go right ahead. Thanks for watching.
Does he wish he had a old sears garden tractor?
I will ask him, I know I would like to find one...
He said yes!
chud, u da man!
U should lock the Dually
I wish it were locked, but then again, I know it is going to break as soon as I lock it. I need to find a spare rear that I could lock and install and see what happens. Thanks for watching.
Should put a floor board on the Troy built so that their feet don’t get in there
In those pulleys and belts
I agree and it did get the rear fenders / floor board back on. Thanks for watching.
When next video
I hope to have something ready for next Saturday, thanks for asking and for watching.
Yah think tinge Deere needs locked
I, like most of my mowers, needs to be locked. Thanks for watching.
i need to lock my old spicer 5 speed
That would be nice, thanks for watching.
I don't think a spicer would hold for that. Mine sure wouldn't. You can't do a welded locker for them, tho, because the spider gears are so small the weld won't grab.
You should get an older Cub Cadet and make it a mud mower.
Maybe a deal on one will pop up and I can make it happen. Thanks for watching.
Hey I have the same Troy bill and I was wondering if I cashapp you could you build me a gas pedal for it?
That is a cool idea, do you just need the pedal or are you wanting cable and everything? thanks for watching.
@@chud327 just the gas pedal and the bolts to put it on. How much would you charge
10 times better than letting your kids play video games. .............
I see little use for video games. Thanks so much for watching.
famous frog
Chud please put a floor pan back on the red unit your boys riding I'd hate to see him lose a toe to a belt.
Don't worry that one was parted out and he still has his toes. thanks for watching.
Could have went double chain train out of the creek
That would have been cool, maybe next time and thanks for watching.
that john deer is kinda depressing compared to the other two now.
IKR, it has some kind of internal pressure override bypass that shuts it down every time you give it a little challenge. I need to find away around that and lock it or just get a manual. Thanks for watching.
Tug of war between poulan and troybilt next
I like the sound of that! Thanks for watching.
Chudidhar like your videos because the stuff you do I like thank for your comment
You are welcome and thanks for watching.
You all need to do a 318 or something
More Deere projects? I could get into that, thanks for watching.
Thanks for responding
you too.
nice
Lol no pulley swaps
The Poulan had a pulley swap, the deere in an auto, and the troy has a splined pulley that is hard to find. thanks for watching.
mine needs a locker
They make a world of difference. Thanks for watching.
Put A Locker On The Dully
Yes, I am worried it will break with that much rubber, but then again, I may do it anyways. Thanks for watching.
You need to put a locker on the John Deere
No. 2
Thanks and thanks for watching.
Lock the dully
That would be so cool and thanks for watching.
"a NEW used bushing"
true and thanks for watching.
Sounds like some good video topics...
There is literally no point putting mud tires on the front of a 2wd tractor. You'd get better steering out of some real thin "slat" tires.
If you have no slat tires, mud tires do steer better than turf tires. Plus I like the way they look. thanks for watching.
I did not meet too say Chudidhar
No problem, thanks for the comments.
You can edit comments btw.
Funny, but true. Thanks for the tip.
