In this video we are building the very popular 5.0 Ford roller motor. They made the Windsor V8 engine from 1961 to 2001 in cubic inches ranging from 221 to 351 but most of them being 302. We plan to double the horsepower of this one with upgraded heads, cam , intake, headers, along with lots of other go fast parts. Let's get this thing ready to go in our 63 Fairmont Sprint clone.

Hi 👋 GUYS 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ LOVE YOU GUYS YOU GUYS ARE MY FAVORITE SHOW
Are they Dave Ramsey approved?
@@darrenswails I looked into them, from what I can tell, you pay them your debt Ex 10K, and they ask you to default on your credit cards/lender, then they negotiate(buy) your debt at a reduced amount. You still pay them the 10K while they buy your debt at example 5K. Your credit takes shit for the next 7 to 10 years. The upside is that you won't pay all that interest which could be 80K if you continued to make minimum payments. I got as equity loan instead.
they might call me crazy, that i spend over $1.000 on a rv that was free. big block 440.
I’ve always wanted to meet Ralph and be friends with him
Can we take a minute to acknowledge the fantastic camera work marge does week after week❤❤❤
Thank you
Amen to that, we would be lost without UA-cam favourite mother
Yes, absolutely ☺️
She is great! ❤ Y'all are great and I love watching your show! You feel like family to me 😊
Yep, Tosh is good with the camera angles...Shirley for sure.
We need a manufacturer of paint booths to sponsor Sleeperdude, because we know Squeezie is going to require her vehicle be finished to a much higher standard than normal.
That’s right
OH! ABSOLUTELY!!
For Sure
Good point there!👍
Or a portable paint both sponsorship.
First, I'd like to say that you are the only UA-camr that I've seen take a moment to celebrate Joe Elmore. Thank you for that. I grew up with him, too. Second, I'm fixin to put a 302 in my Maverick and this is EXACTLY what I needed to see! Part numbers and everything. Thank you! I just hope I can replicate your results. Thanks, Josh and Fam.
Thank you. I’m glad you liked it
Josh..did you grow up watching Shade tree mechanic guys?.....always loved to watch them and whatever Stacy David was building on his show.
The knowledge in the kids are amazing. And Josh you be nice to Tosh. Lol stop making fun of her. 😂😂😂😂. You all crack me up.
Love your show ,PLEASE never change your fast forward music. It's sounds old school, and is relaxing, not some of other channels crazy rock music. I watch you and your family over and over, calms my PTSD. THANK YOU. 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🐏🐏🐽🐽🐖🐖
Here, here!!!! Does anybody know what the name of the song is? Or who performs it?
It's good seeing Squeeze get her appetite back after her run in with being sick.Same with all the chillin.
Joe Elmore was a big influence on me and my car guy journey. We didn’t have UA-cam in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Saturday morning car shows like Joe’s made a big impact on today’s mechanics and car guys. Salute to Joe for helping blaze the trail.
I think it's great that you show kids can be hand-on with your builds and it isn't only blokes that enjoy working on cars.
You really do make a great teacher SleeperDude.
I love the way Wawa looks at her father; such adoration. You are a good man Sleeper-dude!
Thank you very much!
Yes, you can twist those oil pump drive shafts until they look like a twizzler! I found out in 1976 in a 1965 GT Mustang , early with a 260 CU IN engine... with ugly windows in the side of the block, there went the numbers matching! It became a 302, and yes, bell housing troubles, 5 bolt VS 6 bolt. More junkyard trips.
Joe was a great guy and an influence on me as well. I met him at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland during an event. He was a true car guy. RIP
Yes! Very cool
Kids are growing up so fast. Thank you for clean fun and interesting content . We appreciate the time and effort that you put forth for our entertainment. Remember, my Tim worked on these older cars for many years and still has tools for those jobs. Just let us know anytime.
Josh you should have used the weak springs to set your push rod length, to check for proper valve/rocker geometry and for the valve to piston clearance. Remember your lifters have no oil pressure and will collapse under stock spring pressure.
Company I've worked for here in Milwaukee Wi has made many factory parts you touch.... So nice!
Oh wow
Friend of mine took a dressed 396 engine and put a glass table top over it as his living room coffee table...it was pretty awesome! Your rebuild is looking fantastic - can't wait to here first firing!
Squeezie is definitely not a joke folks she's really a bad young lady in the making folks for real now you hear ❤️❤️❤️
Laughed so hard at Sqeezie eating the vanias and gagging. Kid is too funny. Thanks for the wholesome content Sleeperdude family.👍👍🇨🇦
She’s a mess
I’m on break at work and watching your video for a second time. I just finished a can of Viennas and poured 1 out for my hommies😂😀😂
Poor Squeezy gagging over the Vienna sausages 1:10:18 mark.
Awesome build thanks guys.
Best UA-cam channel on the planet
Ikr, the first one went down fine, the second one, not so much lol.
I get it though, once you remember you're eating raw meat from a can, and that it's more lips and bums than actual meat, it's never going down easy after that.
They'd probably be way better if you threw them on a bbq and got some grill marks on them, make em look like you're eating real food lol.
Your family dynamics are awesome!
I didn’t realize that over the years that the ford Windsor has 6 different timing covers I knew about the regular rotation and reverse rotation water pumps but never knew of the short water pump towards the end of production. Thank you for explaining this I learned something new about SBF. Can’t wait till it goes back in the Falcon.
Glad to help!
The thing I like about a Ford Roller cam is You can Bend a push rod but you don't lose oil pressure like you do with a flat tappit lister.
That little 302 is going to really light up the Falcon. I've been waiting to see the V8 swap come together on this car. The Falcon is going to be SO SWEET! Great video Josh and family!
Thanks!
Thank you so much we appreciate it!
Our prayers have been answered I go into surgery for a liver and kidney transplant in Jackson Mississippi today to start the newest best chapter of my life. Thank you, marge and the kids for the months of entertainment, encouragement and prayers that have gotten me to this point. I hope to be back building race cars again in 2 months and I can't wait. Thanks again my friend
Put together a 302, back when I was in high school. Cost me a fortune then. Had only 15K miles, on it. On a very cold morning. Just as you mentioned. I twisted the factory oil pump shaft, which lead to a disaster. An expensive lesson for me to upgrade that part in the future.
Great video, guys.
THAT WA...she's my fave...if she worked in my shop she'd realize you can be totally unhinged and still turn out some of the fastest Vdubs on the Left Coast...Wa is most impeccable...love your guys channel.
@Sleeperdude we grew up in the same era I’m from North Carolina though loved watching those shows on the weekends growing up. Also my name is Joshua I go by Josh though and I was born in 88. I enjoy watching you and your family
Working on things together I grew up wrenching with my Dad and mine do it with me. Keep up the awesome parenting
It is amazing how quickly the channel has grown since the old place, quitting your job full time and going full time. Summit racing is a great place , The one in Ohio is the oldest Flagship store, and I was buying stuff from them for decades also since the the late 80's. I finally got a 88 Mercury Cougar XR7 with the 5.0L engine and it only has 50k on the clock. No rust anywhere and I got it from a 90 year old man who kept it in a climate controlled garage since 1995. They put a entire new stock fuel system on it tank, lines, pump, sending unit, filters, everything. Wouldn't run for more than 15-30 seconds, they put a PCM , 8 new/used injectors cleaned the EGR. Same thing my Ford guy at work told him, they were going to scrap the car after they told him what it needed to be fixed. I was fortunate enough to get the car for south of a thousand dollars and I replaced the fuel injectors with 8 new ones for a 89 mustang 5.0L and it fired right up. Needs a upper intake gasket and the lines finished underneath due to a small vacuum leak and I will have a great little runner. I'm going to build a engine for it and I will be using some information and tips from your channel Josh ! I hope you have had a great 4th of July weekend and I will be watching to see how this motor turns out. Thanks for sharing as always and have a great day today.
Sleeperdude out here making Saturdays great again!
You already know!
I’m running stock 350 in 84 Chevy truck had to block return off of mech fuel pump and it runs fine but now I get 5 miles to gallon got any ideas ? It ran out of gas when it went to shift to second I’ve replaced fuel pump on block twice with precision pump
I think you're going to have a return.
Its Sundays in New Zealand
Great job on the engine build. Who knew how many versions of water pumps, timing chain covers etc on the 5.0. Thanks for info.
Yes it’s crazy
I ALWAYS fit the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft before tightening the timing cover bolts to ensure the shaft seal is exactly centered, or you risk a shortened seal life. Then you can remove, or finish torquing the balancer on. I'm enjoying your build.
I believe you're supposed to put the harmonic balancer at least partially on to center the front seal before you tighten down the timing cover! Looks like a fun build!
😂😂😂
For all the wrenching, fixing and building y’all have done… for Ralphie to say “what’s that?” To red loctite… 🤣😂 THATS funny!
He’s a mess
1:03:11 when I had my 351-Cleveland built I immersed my oil pump in a clean bucket with oil and took the pump drive shaft and prime the pump.
Torquing bolts in sequence is EXTREMELY important! If you don't, you can cause them to twist and/or warp. This will cause bad compression and can cause coolant to go into and out of the cylinders.
ALWAYS follow the tightening sequence!!!!
Ok thanks
1:10:29 Yes there is a Summit Racing in Ohio. That's where Summit originated in 1969 in Stow, OH. As a college student in the early 70's at Akron University I frequented Summit quite frequently. All the other stores grew from that.
Sleeperdude, the other side of caliper measures in the inside of something. Such as the exhaust ports. Hahaha. Sorry I had to educate if you didn't know, which I am sure you do know. Can't wait to see this engine ROAR to life! Ford guy here!!!
Yes thanks
Yep three side on the calipers
outside =big side
Inside= pointy small side
Depth=long end
Josh, had alot of Windsor small block Fords and everything you can imagine. Had a 221 yep you're right about that. The only one I never owned was a 260 had 289 302s and 351s when a Ford runs good you can't beat them for dependability. Thanks for the entertainment, you have a beautiful family.
When Josh was carrying Squeezie and she squawked it sounded like her mom! Man, I was a Ford guy but didn't know about all these differences. Rebuilt a 289 and dropped in a 65 Fairlane that had a 260. I must have lucked out on timing covers/ waterpump and timing chain because I had no troubles and it ran great.😊
Thank you
My OCD was screaming when you used the external jaws of the calipers to do an internal measurement. 😆
That’s funny
Gotta love a family that shares RC backwash!
Exactly
aww God Bless, Joe Elmore RIP. thanks for sharing that. 302 is my second favorite motor, glad to see the upgrades.
Very nice tribute to Joe rest in peace. Great work and video SleeperDudes
I spent many years at Cummins building 10, 11, 12 and 15 liter engines putting heads on them. Torque was between 430 and 480 Ft pounds for the bolts depending on which engine size.
He was a mentor of tv n hotroding ! He was a pioneer n we’ll miss him a lot ! I was an hot fodder from Paterson,Pa n No. Philadelphia, Pa
In the 70’s to the 90’s !
Yes!!! 👍
Great video 👍 Nothing like the family build a engine, just learned Do Not put lubricant on the washer face to block only on the washer top to bolt or nut! It was from top engineer at proto1 build billet blocks 😊
I remember when I was a kid watching my uncle fully braking down a motor form a 1974 Trans AM. He painted every part of the motor a different color, and put it back together. He called it his Picasso motor I thought it was one of the coolest thing I ever seen. I'm 41 years old now!
So cool
If you plan on doing autocross you should really use a pan with baffles and some kick outs. I would also recommend using an accusump to keep oil pressure and protect the engine when you’re rocking those corners. Looking forward to your next video.
I watched joe back in the day learning about horse power from him but it’s a loss to all gear heads and body workers
Rest in peace ☮️ Joe !!!!
Alot of the guys that have been on the powerblock/powernation have youtubes
@@waynerohde1036 yes
Yeah
All right man you’ve been in a funk for a little while now building these engines and have them blow up Anya. Let’s hope that this one is the first and one in Dunn one and done. I know you guys got this you got the best team in the world right there with you
I used to work for a NASCAR CUP TEAM, and lots b of people dont know that you should prime the threads with loctite primer before you use loctite thread locker, but ur not running Nascar track lol
I run those same flotek heads on my 302 swap ranger and love them. They breathe a lot better than a set of e7 heads.
Super looking engine!! My first car was a 1962 Falcon station wagon, my Dad gave me.
Awesome thanks
Love the upgrades. Great teamwork assembling the motor. Now, please, finish something. Its killing my ocd! Love you guys!
Man I absolutely love those OHSA approved slip slops .
Exactly
Once again thank you for allowing us to watch you do an awesome engine build. Ralphie looks more like you everytime i see him. Saturday is my favorite day of the week because of you guys.❤
Our pleasure! Thank you
I remember hotrod TV and horsepower TV. I'd watch them every weekend
I love your guys content. I’ve learned so much about cars from watching you all. You’re very good at explaining things. My only complaint would be you don’t post often enough. I’ll be watching whenever you do.
Man this video brought back a lot of memories from high school helping my buddies with their mustangs doing cam swaps with the “alphabet cams”
Yes!!! Good times
Great job guys, I pretzeled an oil pump drive in my 5.0 HO, destroyed the motor, I’m glad to see all the quality parts on this build. I would brush paint the block at this point just to make it look good and be able to see oil leaks
😳😳thanks
You forgot the harmonic balancer should be mounted before tightening the cam chain cover so the crank seal is centered.
Always clear over your raw aluminum engine parts. Keeps them clean and from turning colors from age and from staining.
That is going to be one fast Falcon. Nice job on the build the engine looks great.
Thank you
Josh, I love how you explain things in your video on this engine or any build you do. I had a 93 Chevy cavalier Z-24. It was a salvaged car. Someone got it out of the junk yard in Georgia threw a bunch of parts in it and got it running. Then it ended up in Richwood Ohio got more parts tossed into it. Then I bought it for $800. Which is super cheap for a car that did run. It still has things wrong with it. Like the cooling fan didn't come on. So I had to pull over a bunch to let the engine cool off. But I made it home. If I had someone like you to help me with repairs and taught me the way you do. Of each part and what it did. I would have been able to fix my car to fully function. It's now in the junkyard here in northern Kentucky. Because the gasoline line leaks, fuel pump went out and the gas tank wasn't in good condition. There was too much rust on it that nobody was willing to fix it. Health wise prevented me from having the money to fix it myself. It just sat there. So it went back to the junk yard.
If you ever read this comment. I just want to let you know that as a woman I appreciate you and the way you teach your children the mechanics of cars. They will be able to fix their cars just like you fix them. To keep them running. I also appreciate you for getting these beautiful old cars back on the road again. Cars aren't made the right way like they did back in the day. With good heavy grade metal. Now they are made with cheap plastics and light weight metal.
I wanna add your knowledge on cars is impeccable.😊
Can't wait to see the Falcon run with this engine!!!
That really keeps to the spirit of the Sprint. Great build for that car. I bolted up a bare unibody 63-1/2 from a stripped dirt track racer. Didn't have near your go parts up front. Well done!
After a hard days work, its nice to come home and rest with a sleeperdude build
In '68 I put a 427 in my '61 Bel Air . My friend flat towed me 7 miles to Doug's in Downey ca. to have headers custom built , since nobody made them . Picked it up two days later and drove it to the muffler shop with those headers open . When I saw a cop I coming had to shut it off and pull over to the curb . It was 12:5 to 1 with the L-88 cam . Lotta fun 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙉
i've been watching your channel for a few years and I love seeing a good family build cars together. I wish I had this kind of family growing up. I'm the only one in my family who is a gearhead. Its cool to see the kids grow up and see their personalities shine. squeezy is really cool I used to love painting when I was a kid and she has a real talent! keep up the good work!
Good to see you and Marge working together. Don't get to see much of that because she is the camera person.
This is totally off subject but we were in pigeon forge this past weekend and all I can say is wow! Traffic is a understatement
I love watching you sir and the kids learning life skills. I love that
I appreciate that
@@Sleeperdude your welcome sir. Please tell the family I say thank you
I love all of the options you could run with the SBF 302. I have a 302 roller out of a 93 Bronco that now has a CW driver side exit water pump, a v-belt, and a holley 650 cfm double pumper. I even mated it to a delcoSI alternator and saginaw PS pump that was original equipment in the CJ7 I mated it to. That engine had excellent power and a ton of aftermarket options. I too used the mechanical fuel pump eccentric. one problem is they do not make mechanical pumps like they used to. Ive had 2 fail, and 2 seep oil from the diaphragm hole with-in a year. Now I have a block off plate and electric pump with return line.
Another great video! A feller needs to take one end of the old shop by the house and turn it into a paint booth. A feller has years of experience in auto body that the kids would be lucky to learn. Great content!
Yeah we might one day
Poor Waw is looking like man, I could be at the pool or beach with my friends. 🏄 😅😅 But what a trooper! Rare examples of kids hanging with their families. I could watch an hour of just the pets. Where's Scooter???
🤣 she is a good helper. Scooter is in the house protecting us 🤣
I have a sixty eight mustang with a stroker 414 Windsor And I blew a roller lifter to pieces, which destroyed the cam. That motor was producing close to 5 hundred horsepower. It broke my heart so that means I have to tear the motor down and find out what I did wrong. Watching this video gave me some new ideas. But I'm of the old philosophy, there's no substitution for for cubic inches.
No replacement for displacement 💪
@@donaldwhitaker1433 Saying it, either way, depends on where you from. It means the same.
Thank you so much summit for working with our favorite family😊
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⚓ I learned something very important from you working on that motor, I'm definitely sticking to Chevrolet 😉 actually I learned a long time ago the engines I hate the most of the ones I am currently working on 😂 thanks guys for a very enjoyable video, I'm looking forward to seeing that engine installed and rippin 🔥 keep up the great work guys and may God bless you all ✌️🇺🇲
Great video! Thank ya'll! I grew up around 5.0s, this is by far my favorite build.
YAY! best day of the week! Josh and Marge and Ralphie, Wa and Squeeze! tuned in with my Viennas and my RC!
Thanks
That's nice you let the kids help with your projects
Joe Elmore had the best voice for TV and could explain anything.
Yes
I can’t wait for the thumbnail on the galaxy video that will go along with the title of “Sleeperdude spicy rear end”, lol! You guys are awesome! Thank you for everything you do!
This is going to be a good Saturday with sleeper dude family that was awesome of you to honor Joe he was a legend .!!! that falcon is gonna be a beast with that motor have a good weekend guys. god bless with lots of love from Pittsburgh pa
Thank you we are excited about it.
New subscriber, very cool to see a family work so well together!
Thank you!
That’s good info on that summit cam. I’m a big fan of the F303, but in the last few years they cost as much as I’ve spent for custom grind solid rollers. Definitely gonna check out the Summit one!
Thanks for the video. I've learned a few things I didn't know. Going to be fun to hear it run. Take care and I'll see you later.
Thank you
"The life of a Ford parts counterman is not to be envied".
when measuring inside use the top jaws side of the caliber .
Love this channel and family. We don't miss an episode❤
Nice build! I just built a 96 Explorer 5.0 same cam knock version of the same intake GT40 heads. Just set it in an 86 T-Bird with a T-5 behind it!
That’s right
Another Squeezles merchandise ad!! Way to go, Squeezie!!
I kept thinking you were saying cinnamon lube, I'm like what the heck is that 😂 then I realized you were saying assembly lube. Thanks for another awesome video. Oh, I have Doug's headers on my 65 F100 352FE, had to hook up the exhaust so I could hear the engine properly. They are so loud, but sounded awesome. Sounded even better after putting Flowmaster 40's on though.
That’s hilarious
Woohoo! My favorite family. Good luck on the motor work today. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!
I'm old enough to remember real family comedies on TV... The Bradys,The Partridges, Happy Days....The Bunkers😂...y'all are definitely in those shows wheelhouse...take care y'all@Sleeperdude
You're welcome
Nice lil engine build and it looks really nice with all the new parts cant wait to hear it
Lots of information for people who build engines. Love it when the children do goofy things! Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
Thanks for watching!
Omg if smokey yunick was Alive he would be yelling silly putty not play doh. Silly putty does work much better lol love ur videos. I used to look forward to Carol Burnett showbon Saturdays, now it's sleeperdude! Love your videos n your family is great
I'm glad that you started a rumble channel, the audience is a little smaller ,but is more free and AMERICAN...👍👍👍
Yeah Ralphie is crushing it on there
just found this channel although i've heard puddin mention it a few times i've never gone looking for it simply because im already subscribed to so many channels but that being said i love Rumble unfortunately everyone is on youtube, im subbing to both just because y'all are on rumble. I really wish more automotive content creators would upload to both !
