If they don't offer a perpetual license and try to go subscription only I think it will sink the product before it even gets rolling. So many products in the last few years that have tried to go subscription only loose customers fast. If they try this I wont even give it a chance
You don't think they already know what the pricing structure will be? I believe they do. The mistake they made was announcing the change coming up on a year now. Absolutely ridiculous. They're dragging this out way too long.
They had the best graphics in the business, now it looks like the kid down the street did the graphics in a Commodore 64. If I have to look at this interface all day I'll go nuts . Bill P.
I hope they offer both options. Membership would include Sonar with all updates OR perpetual license would include updates for purchased version (example: purchasers of 1.0 receive updates 1.1, 1.2, etc.). New version (example: 2.0) would require upgrade purchase.
As many will be aware, there were massive discusions on the forums last year when they floated ideas about payment. A subscription model came in for a LOT of flack. These discussions have flared up again on the forums recently. We'll see what the bakers finally opt for. I am a little concerned that the whole Bandlab ethos wants to push more towards young folk, where they will believe there will be less, or no, resistance to a subscrition model. At the same time, they will be trying to evaluate the extent of damage to their income stream if they lose a lot of 'older' users who will not buy a subscription model under any circumstances. Like me. 😉
One of the developers has said purchase options are being discussed, the membership option is a way to get initial user feedback. By the way, the beta release version you're looking at is a little different to the beta testing build. I don't know if beta testers will get any kind of preferential rate when the final launch happens.
Honestly, at this point I'd rather use Samplitude Pro X, now that they've "fixed" their Audio Quantize and Comping systems. Stronger product, even for MIDI Composition (unthinkable back in 2017). I cannot believe they announced this ~10 months ago and still haven't even disclosed pricing, despite it being in Beta and them asking users to pay a subscription to "test" it.
I took the plunge and paid for the membership a few weeks ago. Honest review. The graphics are cleaner. Here is 1 issue for me. All prochannel modules graphics have not been updated and it can have an affect on your eyes looking at clear updated module and then looking at a blurry module. I feel they will get it together eventually. Few other bugs but they are working on them. There are other good improvements made. Imo if looking to revamp do it. I dont know if its worth keeping outdated looking plugins. I would redo them to make them consistent with the DAW.
Yall talking like the Membership version updates are gonna be different from the license purchase updates or something. It really doesn't matter, if your on a membership that your paying monthly then you are paying for the updates. The updates are not gonna be free with the membership. Yall just scared because what Gibson did when they discontinued Sonar Platinum.
With membership, it’s not about updates, but unable to use Cakewalk any longer if you cancel your membership, and that’s a problem. There has to be both options.
There are issues withe SSl 2 + audio interface drivers. The sound pauses during playback and resumes Has cakewalk addressed this ? Has anyone encountered this issue ?
I wonder if sonar will be purchased through the bandlab membership. We will see. I guess it would be more affordable this way, even tho many people dont like a subscription
The frustration is not the subscription, but the fact that it has taken too long. Creating any project with Cakewalk now will hang in the air not knowing what will be the future.
What can this do that x3 cant do? I still have x3 producer and im thinking about trying to run it just for the vst plugins. I have more instruments for x3 than i do for pro tools. Is it worth trying to update to one of these free vrsions or just stick with x3 producer?
Perpetual license without ant doubt!

I believe discussions are underway at Bandlab about releasing it separately from membership. No firm date for any announcement yet.

I will only get it if a perpetual licence is offered.
I have been posting that on the CW forum for a while now. We'll see.....Honestly I am NOT hopeful!

This bata testing period is testing my patience !!

Thanks for your comment
Perpetual license is the only way I will use it after almost 20 years of Cakewalk. I am looking for a different DAW as we wait!

I assume that old Cakewalk projects will open properly in Sonar. Is this correct?
Yes, it can open old projects.
Cbb has been requiring activation for several months. I believe they're going to cut access to Cbb by eliminating activation.
My problem is, how would one start a new project not knowing the future of the product 🫤
@@RecordingStudio9 That's a valid concern. How will naming conventions change? I can't believe that Cbb users who move to Sonar will lose their data.

Have you considered making your videos in 1080p?
Yes, when I can afford a new laptop 😊
@@RecordingStudio9😁👍
Does it have a sampler now?
Nothing much in Cakewalk Sonar for now except for Session Drummer, there's still a lot to restore back in Sonar.
I strongly dislike the "flat" graphics. It matters to me. Cakewalk bB reminded me of hardware mixer. The "flat" graphics look cheap, cheap cheap.
only perpetual license!!!!
Learn please how to make a good sound for your videos..
Maybe you should teach me.
@@RecordingStudio9 Maybe.

I think i like the way x3 looks more than this version
