Rod Liddle: 'Emily Maitlis no longer taken seriously as an impartial news presenter'

- Dan Wootton speaks to journalists Rod Liddle and Paul Connew about the row surrounding BBC Newsnight’s handling of the alleged Dominic Cummings ‘scandal’ after the BBC issued a statement saying the programme “did not meet standards of due impartiality."
Rod Liddle told Dan that Newsnight “should endeavour to ensure this never happens again,” saying “apologies from the BBC are rare…even they were forced to conclude that [Maitlis] had allowed personal animosity to get in the way of a fair interview.”
Arguing that he did not think people took Emily Maitlis as a serious interviewer anymore, Mr Liddle said “she is a hero amongst that rather agreeable Metropolitan bubble in which she lives.”
Whilst Paul Connew highlighted to Rod Liddle the fact there was a petition supporting Emily Maitlis which was approaching 100,000 signatures, he did say “I do agree with Rod to a tiny point…I would have changed a tiny little bit of that intro.”
Paul also pointed out the “surprisingly large number of Conservative MPs who had come out against Dominic Cummings and telling listeners that the specific exceptions to lockdown rules quoted in Cummings’ defence, had been intended to assist children in violent situations who had been in danger.
She said a while back in an interview with an American politician "everyone in the UK dislikes trump". This is clearly not true. She got away with that. She is very biased.
Most people hate Trump in Canada....Most Canadians dislike Americans in general, they feel morally superior.

Americans and Canadians are constantly crossing the border between countries--hundreds of thousands of trips each day. We cross back and forth across the border to work, to shop, to go to university, to go on vacation. We get along very well with each other---regardless of the politics of the moment. Although there are actually some BBC shows I like blue planet with David Attenborough and some of the history shows on BBC 4 are quite good. My way of protesting their far left bias is to never pay my TV licence bill I haven't paid it for ages now and I won't ever. I'm not gonna pay for them to poison the minds of the public!

The rest of the country wasn't permitted to do what he did - and the police were monitoring peoples movements to ensure they didn't. Guidelines, laws - whatever - people were receiving fines and warnings left, right and centre. Mostly, its the people who were not being obedient in the first place who don't really care what Cummings did. For the people who missed out on seeing family members and doing what they wanted, it probably is annoying, upsetting etc. Is this how you justify non tolerance towards your political party? It used to be an excellent example of why Western freedom was amazing. That politicians of all persuasions could be put under the spotlight by members of the public on nationally broadcast TV for all to see. It was amazing. But BBC editorial positions have ruined it.

Got into a conversation in the queue outside the CO-OP today, bought up Dominic Cummings with a friend and her daughter, asked her opinion, she had definitely bought the party line, i asked her, had she heard his interrogation for herself, she replied no. This whole business with the eyes is the one thing people are still hung up on. I played her the clip that i had recorded (i like to do that when expressing my point, especially when i know what i am talking about, like when I'm right. It's incredibly satisfying). She, along with others who became involved (whilst, at all times, maintaining social distancing measures) changed their opinions when confronted with the facts. I made it the lesson of the day to not automatically believe what you see/hear on / in media. To question and remember there is always two sides (at least) to every story. But it shouldn't have shocked me as much as it did, to hear how completely people believed. So that was my good deed for the day. I provided Enlightenment. Sounds pompous i know. But me and my pal " Johnny walker" are on a mission to put the world to rights. Peace & love. Joy to all. No offence intended.
