I was on break at work. I went out on my lunch break to have a pipe of Northwoods. As i was smoking an older lady and her husband walked by. She said "that smells divine!" Really made my day.
Lovely bulldog, I haven’t had many folk stop to be anything but inquiring about what I’m smoking. Everyone at the office loves when I step out for a bowl. Even have a co-worker who’s given up chewing tobacco and cigarettes for the more refined enjoyment a pipe brings. I say we need to get out more, it would tickle me to encourage others to make the switch. Cheers again from Oklahoma sir.
I really like that pipe, very nicely shaped! Thanks for your impressions on the tobacco, it was helpful. I try to give a wide berth when smoking in public, out here tobacco is frowned upon immensely…… but smoking Maryjane, they won’t care in the least lol 🤷♂️
Great chat! I had a guy at a coffee shop drive through get excited about my pipe because he hadn’t seen one since his grandfather died. He said he didn’t know they were still a thing.
That’s a great pipe you’ve got there. I have the harp 80s. My experience with old Dublin has been different. I think it’s more flavorful than 965. I would kind of describe it as a combination of nightcap and 965. The last time I bought it I bought five tins. I love your accent. Are you a Scott? Your accent is similar to Jonathan‘s of PiperX1X. I’ve only been smoking a pipe two years, so I don’t have much experience with being out in public with a pipe. I live in the Ozarks in southern Missouri. There’s only about seven people that live in my neighborhood which consists of 1000 acres of oak Forest. I go to town once a week and I have a list of stuff to get done. Most the time I don’t sit anywhere where I could smoke a pipe. I did sit outside of an auto repair shop while I was waiting for my truck to have new tires put on. I sat outside and smoked a pipe there. One guy came up and said he liked it. That’s really been my only experience out in public. God bless you, my friend.
@JohnsPipeJourney I'm glad you like it mate! I'm a Southener. In Portsmouth, we have a slight cockney (Essex) twang, although mine isn't as pronounced as a lot of people's. It's formed from centuries of sailors and dockworkers visiting and living here. Seven people and 1000 acres of oak forest sounds like an absolute dream! You guys know how to live over there! I'm glad you've experienced something positive in such a lightly populated area. Thanks for watching John. God bless mate 🙏
That’s my take, I smoked Dublin for 10 years, then discovered Nightcap…. My view is go all in with English, or not at all, like the powerhouse of Nightcap. English now makes about 1/5 of my bowls, not 100% anymore, cheers🎉. I do have a few tins of Dublin cellared from years ago for the apocalypse, it will probably be really smooth now.
A good chat. That Peterson Bulldog is just perfect with that stem colour. Very nice looking pipe. Have not had any negative about pipe smoking in public (not that I do a lot of it) It’s mostly just my wife that complains 😂
@backcountrypipe I usually smoke bent pipes, but that one caught my eye, and I just had to have it. I hear you, dude. I'm always banished to the garage or outside to smoke 😂
You need a nicer background as the white cloth looks a bit stained and ratty - love the videos you do when you are outdoors etc - great content and love your videos 😊
@LukeEdwards-x8c I know, mate. It's in my garage, and that's an old blanket to keep the dust off of some junk. I will try and get outdoors a bit more in future videos. Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Good to see ya. I've sat in crowded beer gardens smoking a pipe around cigarette smokers and still got looks. Mostly, like you say, it's out of curiosity and the novelty of it. These days you have to be a little weird to be a pipe smoker, and that's fine. I have noticed though that some people occasionally mistake what we're smoking for actual weed rather than good ol' pipe weed, which could explain some of the scowling and negative vibes depending on the opinions of those people. All in all, we just have to keep doing our thing.
@PolyporePiper Thanks mate! I have seen a few people say they have been accused of smoking weed. Luckily, I've not had that yet. Although, I'd probably find it amusing 😂 thank you for watching!
Only times I'm smoking in public these days is travling to shops etc or on rare occasions if I'm waiting on an appointment time etc, I stopped using pubs along with my entire friend group when they banned smoking, the three pubs in our village clossed within a couple of years of the ban. The looks I tend to get range from bewilderment to amused intrigue but nothing ever overtly hostile.
@CKFindlay I think they've found a way to ruin everything the working class man loves. Football, pubs, camping.. It's a steady decline, which is destroying our cultural heritage.
I smoked a pipe when I was in my twenties and always got compliments about the aroma. People would look at me out of curiosity because I was so young but it often was an icebreaker for a conversation. Do you smoke whilst doing your window cleaning? Best Regards.
@Pipeskin I've always enjoyed the aroma, too. Even before I picked a pipe up. I don't smoke around customers' houses unless they themselves also smoke a pipe, simply because it looks unprofessional. I do stop and have a puff during lunch, though. Thanks for watching, mate!
I’ve never had any problems smoking a pipe in public and it can bring on a conversation with some saying their dad or grandad smoked a pipe etc. I will tend to smoke an aromatic with a good room note if I’m going to be out and about among people as I think you get a better response, the X1X blend I’ve had so many people saying that smells great. But I have had one bloke who lives in the village who was driving past then put the car in reverse and dropped the windows so his daughter could see saying she’s never seen anyone smoking a pipe🤷♂️ weird but there you go, well I thought that odd why show a five year old an old fart smoking a pipe! Yeh you get the odd look but I think it’s more like you don’t see that very often than anyone been snooty, because you don’t get folk staring at someone smoking a cigarette or cigar eh. I was kinda expecting Royal Mail today with that Hardcastle as it’s not uncommon to get a delivery on a Sunday but hey ho it’ll be here tomorrow.
@PiperX1X Absolutely a conversation starter! I have received compliments, which is nice. I think something with a good room note is good for people to smell because it also sparks interest, as I think most people think it won't taste or smell nice. 😂 I've certainly never had anyone stop in a car to watch me smoke, though! 😂 Mine isn't dispatched yet, but I imagine they will get round to it tomorrow when they're back in the office. Looking forward to smoking my first Dublin shape pipe!
I just got the exact same pipe. Great smoker! I'm curious to see if any of us yanks have had negative experiences. You Brits are way more polite than we are 😂
@MillennialCodger Aren't they just! Beautiful colour too. It'd be interesting to find out. I suppose there are certain areas here that I'd definitely be more "on guard" whilst smoking a pipe. I think where America is really big, you have a much more diverse range of individuals.
Im in Australia and I too would be interested to see what the reaction would be. Normally smoke at home so will have to take the pipe with me next time I go to the Footy Club
I had the same impressions with old dublin, a very dry smoke with a musty smell. 965 is one of the best by far imo. I smoke a pipe or cigar all the time at work and never had a bad word but not that it would matter. I think all the anti smoking propaganda thats bern pushed for a long time now has had a big impact as i have gotten some unfriendly looks but hey ho i love to smoke
@callum4863 Exactly that! I love 965, it just ticks the right boxes for me. I prefer it to EMP as well for a morning smoke. The way I see it, we're not hurting anyone by smoking pipes, so fill your boots! Thanks for watching mate.
