@@tgnomechaser dude, you're cherry-picking the best artists from that era and ignoring a lot of crap. There was a _ton_ of cheesy music back then that is almost unlistenable today. Thousands of corny pop artists created by record labels. I love a lot of 50s and 60s music, but there were so many unoriginal copycat bands. So many songs about holding hands at the sock hop. No dark music, except maybe the Doors.
Music became much more interesting and liberated in the 70s and 80s, particularly in the punk/post-punk/new wave era. The rise of independent record labels. I prefer the weirdness and experimentation of that era.

I remember when this first aired, I didn't think I could love Robert Smith and The Cure any more, and then I saw them again in concert this year and was absolutely blown away. Same with my stepdaughter. She’s 18 and finally we were able to take her to her first Cure show end of May at the Hollywood Bowl. Funny that we saw them on the same date there in 2016. I’ve seen them so many times prior and each show holds special memories. I have to say that one of the best was Irving Plaza and the other Radio Shows in 1997. Hearing Forever live was easily one of my all time favorites. They would open with Torture and started bringing back some older stuff then. The Holy Hour is another one I’ll never forget live. Sinking is another fave live. Endless memories! 😊

I agree with you . There was a warped pop sensibility, melody, wackiness, creativity that gave way to grunge, or bands that emulated grunge. Oasis was basically sporty, anthemic arena rawk. There were some great artists in the 90’s , but nobody could ever be the alt pop rock of The Cure or The Banshees again.

Gallup is definitely underrated but, to say he's the "most underrated bassist ever"? Sorry but, that's not quite true. There are tons more great bassists that never get the spotlight or even a mention in the bass community. At least he's mentioned when The Cure comes up, as being a cornerstone of the band and regarded as a very important component of their sound, Post Punk/Goth music and the band in general. Other great bassists from other great bands rarely, if ever, get that.

This was before Seattle hijacked the indie scene and turned it into a copy-cat cash cow. The teenage Gen-Xers who fell for grunge were used to metal and gangster rap. Didn't know bands like Sonic Youth, The Cure, R.E.M. and Pixies. I was an indie kid from the 80s and saw it firsthand. Call me an old head or a college radio hipster. It's just the truth.

The pain that he’s endured and the realization of life slowly trickling by is so prevalent in the new songs. It’s often unbearable, but I feel it too as I age. Never will stop loving this man. I’m happy I got to meet them a few times and I never will forget all of the memories of friendships that stemmed from either waiting on line (old school way) at the box office, overnight, in the cold, etc. Or striking up conversations with someone who had a Cure shirt on (fellow freaks) at the mall or elsewhere. I’m aging myself but those were some great times and friendships that endure til this day!

Actually, MTV shown some of the videos in their entirety, I edited them out for 2 reasons. Firstly, because I uploaded this video 25 years after it first aired, and those videos have already become available officially and in better quality on VHS, DVD and here on UA-cam. Secondly to avoid copyright strikes at the time of uploading.
