To me, simpler is always better. Why buy all these expensive veneers from the island of Ping Pongo and glue them in 7 layers this way and that, when two or three layers of douglas fir plywood each with 5 layers already would equal 15 layers of first rate wood and better stiffness.
As far as strip planking goes, who wants to plank a boat with spaghetti?
