I love an air horn. I grew up near a train yard in Wisconsin. Lots of big freighters would roll by at all hours of day and night. The horns put me to sleep.
Same here...they also give me a delightful rush to my head, along with that of the Doppler effect as it passes by. I didn't live near a train yard, but the nearest train tracks were behind my neighbors' houses across the street and considering my current location and the wind patterns (I live about 3 or 4 miles distant), one can hear the trains go by. Same as my boyfriend's house. Hearing those trains chugging along ever so softly or idling can lull this girl to sleep in no time flat! One year on my way to Daytona with my boyfriend to Bike Week, we were waving at some truckers and bikers and one biker who had a fancy Harley dresser with all kinds of bells and whistles, had a horn resembling that of a train horn and I thought that was great. We figured that will not only get people's attention, but it will make wildlife safer with little chance of them becoming roadkill...LOL
I heard those hooters all day and night when I stayed with a friend in Denver, Colorado. I'm glad I don't live near a train line with those locos. Why do the drivers still blare the horns AFTER they have entered the railroad crossing? It's too late then. And one short toot would do: no need to go "Tooooooooooooot". Idiotic.
Number 2 was my favorite. My son is a locomotive engineer for CSX as was his dad. I have always loved the sound of train whistles and love train travel. Thank you for a most enjoyable video.
I'll never quite understand why diesel train air horns are so captivating and stimulating...........but then again, I really don't care. I'm just so thankful that they are!
I grew up near the tracks in the 1950's and I still remember the train horns and Patsy Cline singing " The Wayward Wind". Joined the military in 68, got out after Vietnam in 72, been traveling ever since, prefer places next to the tracks!
3133 has a nice horn! leslie horns were engineered so wel, that they never sound 'faulty'! that Nathan P2 at 5:44 also sounds good! I had no idea 4618 had a P3 horn! My favorite horns are Leslie horns, especially the RS3L (mainly because I gew up around the Santa Fe, and hearing that horn in videos), but I also like the Nathan P3, P5, K3LAs on certain locomotives (like UP 4915), K5LA on certain locomotives, the WABCO AA2, and the Leslie A200!
