- Bobbin lace making technique is made by braiding and twisting lengths of thread wound on bobbins. It was evolved from passementerie or braid-making in 16th-century Italy. Bobbin lace making is also known as pillow lace and bone lace. It is one of the major categories of handmade laces. In this technique weaving is held in place with pins set in a lace pillow.

And this is only one way to make lace. There's also needle lace, crochet lace, tatted lace this one where you basically embroider it on a special material that you dissolve away after.

Now you see I don't like the sound of the bobbins. I find it irritating.
But I am mesmerized by the motion. And, I crochet, knit , weave and embroider. I have never had the courage to try this.

It's not frustrating, but it is time consuming. And it is way less complicated than it looks and surprisingly easy to learn.
