  • What happened to Joey Gallo? He was a superstar talent in the making with his incredible power and gold glove defense, but since being traded to the New York Yankees he's never been the same.
Gallo has bounced around from team-to-team since playing with the Dodgers and Twins trying to recapture what he was able to do in Texas.
Let's break down Joey Gallo and see if he can rise again in Washington after signing a deal with the Nationals.

As a texas rangers fan, I thank him, making the games Interesting in those rebuild years. I loved seeing those home runs in person and watching the tv. I feel so bad for him, I hate to see him struggle

I think he can come back he’s just got to find what made him so good in the first place. Few hitters can punish pitchers quite like Gallo when he commands an at bat

@@GomerBaseball I hope he can bounce back with the Nats, that’s not a crazy big market team with lots of young guys. I think he would be good there. As you said in the vid he needs to take a first pitch, instead of hitting it. Hopefully that will fix him up. If he can hit at least 30 HR 60RBI and have 220 average he should be fine

Joey Gallo is absolutely maddening. Very athletic for a huge man, but the rest of baseball caught up to him. Due to his massive uppercut, Pitchers simply threw him average fastballs above the belt, and Gallo couldn’t make contact. He needs to break down his swing completely, much like Matt Carpenter did. His downfall has nothing to do with the Yankees, or “feeling comfortable.” The deep uppercut swing and pull happy approach will have him out of baseball by 2025.

As a Nats fan I really hope we can do something with him. Our hitting coach is terrible and preaches bat to ball contact rather than power but Gallo could be the rare exception who might help from that

It would be awesome to see if Gallo could hit 35+ bombs for the Nats

He is a BIG dude. He NEEDS to make more contact and the ball will do its thing, maybe work on your two strike approach. The player that bats .280 never lost his job, he’s gotta stop with the homerun obsession.

I don't know if we'll see Gallo get back to a near 1.000 OPS, but I think he is totally capable of doing something similar to what Kyle Schwarber has done offensively the past two seasons. You combine that type of three true outcome offense around an .800 OPS with Gallo being a good fielder instead of the walking catastrophe that Schwarber was in the outfield and Gallo could be a pretty valuable player.

Because that was a common thing?? Dude only had 1 season with an OPS above .900 and that was 2019.
Since then Gallo has managed to slash .181/.315/.416 with only 88 HR 190 RBI over 447 games.
He also managed to strike out 597 times in 1323 at bats. Quick calculation gets you a strikeout percentage of 45%.
I do not get this obsession with TTO garbage. I don’t care if the guy hits 35 home runs - When your K rate is that high and you’re hitting below .200, the upside of power doesn’t surpass the downside that you’re overall a garbage hitter.

He’s one of those who you just can’t not root for, I feel for him… in my opinion he’s just in his head too much, it’s almost like you can see his desperation. You said it; with a glove and arm that are always a needed tool in this league, he might actually benefit more from being the veteran who is a clubhouse guy, showing some of the 20 year olds what not to do.

Of course, this video tries to blame the fans and the Yankees as a whole. If you rock, we're gonna be your biggest fans, if you suck, you're going to hear it. There are some names the Yankees fucked up, that can't be denied. Sonny Gray just didn't work as a Yankee, he's obviously still a great pitcher. Same goes for Jordan Montgomery, and arguably Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez. Gallo is not one of those guys. He's sucked from the get-go, and continues to suck now.
