If you want to improve your game, this is the best advice you can get. Don't blame your dice. I had a game yesterday, I played CW against DG. I lost by 1 point. On the last turn, I needed to make a 3+ save with a reroll, to deny him 3 points on Grind them down. I failed. But, I did not lose because of that. I lost, because 2 turns before, I didn't move my Serpent to hold an objective, that was -5 on my primary. I lost, because on turn 4 I forgot that I only have units in 2 table quarters, and I could have redeployed my spiders to be in 3. -2 points on my secondaries. On the last turn, instead of moving my jetseer into the 4th table quarter for an extra points on Engage, I moved him to an objective, that I didn't need to hold (I went second). All those decisions lost me the game, not that single roll at the end.

One of the worst games I played was a few weekends ago. Other guy did nothing but complain about his dice all game long as he proceeded to table me. Complete conformation bias through-and-through...only remembering the handful of poor rolls instead of the 3+ hours of rolling absolutely amazingly.

Oh man you would not like playing here then. Where I live it is socially unacceptable to show you are winning or doing good. We are well known for every meeting starting with either party say what bad happened to each one if them , since the last time they saw each other, sprinkled with a list of health issues either person have and if you don't have any you list those your kids or parents have. Someone saying they are doing great is seen as kin to disrespecting the other people, trying to step out of the line , grand stand as being better then everyone else , because you do good. It is a region thing to , people in other countries around us do the same thing. We just do it the most.

Most of the time anyway. Had a game the other week, even my opponent commented that I should have won the game, but I couldn't roll a 3+ to save my life all game. When you roll 7 dice and get 7 1's and 2's, there's not much that better playing will help with.

One thing you mentioned in this video that you do in several others is declaring your intent. I don't know how many times I do this and still get questioned by opponents or have them argue why I'm not rolling a 3" charge for example. I only wish other players used this verbal tactic more often.

When its your job to play toy soldiers bad dice dont matter as much as they do to someone who only gets to play a few times a month. Sure playing a hundred games might mean more balanced luck, but when you play twice a month that could take over 4/5 years.

It’s like playing poker well. You can play amazing and still have a terrible game. To see if you are actually playing well you needs to look at 100 games. If you’re still losing it’s not a luck issue but a strategy issue.

Well, I have deffinitly lost and won games because of bad or good dice rolls, but then I have also lost games where I have had better than average dice, or won when I have had worse.
Have had a couple of games where over 50% of my dice were 1s, they did not go so well, have done that I'd d&d as well, but that does not matter so much, but it's impressive.

Twin volkite colverin on a CHAOS CONTEMPTOR DREADNOUGHT killed my 9 lychguard in one shot because i rolled 10 times a 1 or a 2 and only one dice was above 3 on my save. (My lychguard had only a 3+ because some deathguard rule)
Such a thing may only happen less than once in 5000 rolls.
Turn 2 i lost 250 points of my 2k army and the game was insta lost.

If you *instantly* lose a game on the second turn by losing a 250 point unit, I feel like there's a lot more going on which contributed to your loss than just some unlucky rolls.

@@TheSnek901 until that point i was leading the game, but with my melee elite killed like that there was no way to come back.
In a normal game i would have lost 4-5 lychguard in that shooting phase, and they would have eaten a lot more enemy shooting. However, this way it opened up all of the other Deathguard to shoot at new targets. This was the turning point, and because of this there was nothing i could do to come back.

the comment about advance rolls not being that important is only true for some armies. 9th ed. Orks being a notable exception. when you declare a waaaagh, rolling hot on 5 or 6 dice can be the difference between an early win or loss. the general spirit of the message definetely tracks though.

The reason I'm loosing is the fact that I random casual lists and I end up facing DG terminator bombs with Mortarion ^^ What can those 30 DA and 12 Banshees do against such power :') The fact that my Farseer kept on failing all psychpowers even with rerolls didn't help either :P

Oh how wrong you are. I've lost games where I've had map control all because I can't roll higher than a 1. My last game, that I rage quit mind you, I was ahead, not by much, but enough, well, I attacked my friends 3 deathshroud terminators with 7 of mine, the Sargeant with a power sword and the other 6 with chain fists. I charged in after shooting them with 28 bolt guns and not killing or wounding a single one, I hit him with 18 chain fist attacks and 4 power sword attacks. I rolled 21 1's out of 22. Then the one wound failed with a wound roll if 1. He then retaliated and killed 3 terminators. That cost me a point as his terminators had obsec and mine did not. On his fight phase, I fought first. Exact same thing happened to me and he finished off my squad. Across the map, I shot mortarion with 8 Las cannon shots hitting on 3s and wounding on 3s, 2 multimelta shots that hit on 3s and woind on 4s, and 2 rockets with krak missiles that hit on 3s and wounded on 4s. I rolled 8 1s on the hits for all my las cannons, I managed to hit with the rockrts and wound with one. But rolled a 1 for the damage roll. Missed all the multimelta shots with 1s and 2s. I'm not exaggerating or making anything up. My buddies were in disbelief. One even ran the numbers and couldn't believe it. Thing is top, this is a very normal and consistent thing for me. I've constantly taken control of maps, but never am able to hold points because of my rolls. So in all honesty, no, this video isn't at all true. I'm living proof that dice most certainly play a roll in winning and losing games. I've been tempted to record my games to prove that my rolls are trash. I love this hobby to death and I don't ever see myself not playing it. But those dice broke me that day. I was gonna toss them in the trash as I've done in the past. My buddy stopped me and instead took them home. I now have new dice and I still can't roll higher than a 1.

“In Medio stat virtus” Same for dices, of course, they can't be the only reason but if you keep roll under the average results there will be consequences in the game. At the same time if your opponent keeps score higher than the average result thing will change during the battle. Imho ofc.
