    Hey Austin, I just found your channel via your "little notebook in your pocket" video. I really like the way you think and the way you make your videos, I think you're going to go far with this 👍
    I'm a very deep sleeper and I've struggled with getting up in the morning. I want to share the one thing that has worked for me over the years. Like you said, you have to have some cue in your bedroom to wake you up, whether it's your light bulb on a timer as you suggested, or radio timer, or even an alarm set to a non-stressful sound. But the key for me was to have a second alarm that has a stressful sound (old fashioned alarm clock!) which goes off in my kitchen one minute after the non stressful bedroom prompt. What a person can do is train their brain to wake up to the first prompt, then the fear of the second prompt shocking your nervous system (or waking up your household), will force you to get to the kitchen and turn off the alarm before it goes off. Then you're in the kitchen. You pour yourself a large glass of water, and drink it all. At this point you're on your feet. Your warm, cozy bed is in a different room, and something about drinking water as soon as you get out of bed will put your brain online in a subtly different way. For me at least, this has been the magic formula. Anything and everything else I've ever tried has failed to allow my brain to make a decision upon waking. My body will just take over because of how deeply I sleep.
    I hope this is helpful to some people!

    One key for me is putting my alarm outside of the room and having a sequence of steps to follow immediately after. E.g. After I take off my alarm, I put on the light and make a cup of tea. Sometimes I put my plan for the day next to the alarm also which reminds me of why I got up early in the first place 😄

    I tried to get up early for a long time. Now I have the perfect morning routine that puts me in the right state. But I figured out that my problem is that I really enjoy staying in bed in the morning. I read plenty of suggestions, but your video really addresses the main problem. The friction, pain, and pleasure, and future pacing I have to follow your suggestion. It's probably the best solution on the internet.

    2:23 This is why I prefer sleeping on the top bunk of bunk beds (especially where there is a soft landing below)- my routine during boarding school (when I wasn’t sharing a room) was to wake up to an alarm clock with an incredibly irritating sound, throw myself off the bed onto the bed sticking out below and then switch off my alarm clock. The process wakes me up and also discourages my instincts to crawl back into bed as the ladder in my dorm was too much of a hassle to climb up (the bed below wasn’t used to i’d make sure it wasn’t made and didn’t have a duvet so if i ever tried to lie down on it i’d be cold and just get up again).

      I had a loft bed in my late teens early 20s and I had a whole sliding down the bed stretching routine I'd do before making it to the ground. And yes climbing back up that ladder was definitely a deterrent. Aw I miss my bed too bad it's a weird thing for adults 😕 🙃 🙂

    This is especially difficult for those of us with chronic pain conditions (and I have more than one). I try to get up at 4 or 5am just because it takes my body so long to "acclimate" to being awake and aware of the pain and sometimes nausea. (I also love the quiet!) Having a routine really helps, even if my body is fighting it.

    The light bulb idea is actually brilliant, I’ve noticed that I’m more inclined to climbing back into bed when it’s still dark out, so having the lights turn on before you wake up would definitely help. Thanks for the tip!

    Austin ,
    Best wishes and all the best to you from Joseph.
    I really appreciate this video.
    I have my desk across my bedroom and I have an old cell phone that I use as alarm clock with a ringtone I just use for waking up and it it's also on vibration mode. And I have to get out of bed to turn off the alarm clock. I love the idea
    That I have three alarm times going off at the same moment. And when I wake up I don't use my cell.
    And I keep my cell on vibration mode in my backpack .
    When I need to use my cell I take it out of my backpack. And when I'm done with the call it goes back in my backpack.
    I really enjoyed this video.
    Best wishes and all the best to you.
    👍💪

    I go to public high-school in America though so waking up is painful and I end up dreading when I have to get up and face the 7 hour day of going from class to class and not learning anything but just memorizing information to later resight on a test of some sort, deal with people, then go home. only repeat the process for the week then for a month then the year has gone by and I live my summer with the dread of having to go back and do it all over till I graduate with nothing taken out of this experience.

    I feel like all of these motivational videos on how to wake up earlier all say the same thing. "Have a reason to get out of bed", "don't go back to sleep", "plan your day out", "which person do you want to be". Do you know how easy it is to back out and go back to bed? Just because i struggle to get up in the morning doesn't mean I'm "unmotivated" or "lazy". I am a human being, and i am obviously not perfect. I struggle with really intense anxiety and depression. I am also bipolar. It's not like i just tell myself, "okay, stop thinking negative and get out of bed". I am flawed and I'm just having a bit of a problem fixing my flaws. It doesn't make me less of a capable person or, lazy or not disciplined. I wish that these videos would explain actual tips to become a morning person that have factual results. The only thing i can do is keep trying. Does anyone have any tips on how to become a morning person that actually work?

    • @AustinSchrock
      @AustinSchrock  3 місяці тому +1

      Figure out what takes most of your time the night before, which keeps you from going to sleep on time. For most people it’s their phones. Turn it off at 7pm and it’ll solve this problem for 95% of people. But no one likes that tip cause it’s hard to do.

    • @stephanyec.7519
      @stephanyec.7519 12 днів тому

      I struggle with depression too. I certainly don't believe you are lazy, especially when you are searching for videos to help you improve. It takes 10x the effort for us to get up or even do anything at all. Personally, I struggle to remember my purpose in the mornings. Having reminders of your purposes might help, in those initial stages. Sometimes it's not about "not having a purpose", but maybe "not remembering it when your subconscious mind is in charge". Hope you get better! You are strong, I know that for sure. I believe in you. Sending tons of love, and I truly hope we both can recover. Depression is the worst.

    Clock radio is what I used to use back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the Cold War was bangin'. It really works if you set the station to upbeat cheesy pop/rock/hip-hop. Avoid elevator music and deletion metal.

    Hmmm so,making it easier to get up for the future you and having a reason or motivation to get up and continue doing it -3-
    To be honest,i've heard this advice and it irritated me before;this time,howeverrr,I like the way you explained it so I'll seriously consider it _and_ try it. I mean I tried it before but i wasn't really convinced,this video made me want to push myself a bit more haha ^^
    I like the way you speak (maybe that sold me lol) you didn't try to _push_ it as *THE* solution,it was more like you presented it as an option. It made me think of the way people approach a cat for example;they just leave the food and it's the cat's choice to come to the food.
    Anyways this comment got long! I just wanted to say thank you I guess :D

    Nothing pleasurable about school it’s my only reason I leave the house after hours of procrastination. If I’m off school I’m holed up in home for weeks. I have no purpose to live or go on except to follow mindless behaviour I have done for my whole life so far. I have no intrests and bad anxiety. I have no pleasurable reason to leave my bed all I get is pain and mental anguish. If anything I don’t think I deserve life and I’m a waste of resources I have only lived 14 years but it feels like 60. It doesn’t help that I’m ugly and live in a depressing country I’m ashamed of. I want to end it, I’m just a waste of time money and oxygen if someone with motivation and passions in my shoes they could do so much. I don’t deserve a place on earth and I don’t think I’ll ever have a purpose maybe the best thing will be for me to die in my sleep and never have to wake up

      Very often our value of life is determined by what we do, not what we think. I’ve lived through times where I had similar thoughts. What helped me was finding one or two conscious things to do that I knew was right, even in spite of those thoughts. Even a tiny step in the right direction is better than no step. You got this 🫡
