From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Is it wrong that since episode 1 I hated Kelly. I feel like she tries to blame Ed for her affair when she could’ve left him when it was bad then had the gull to be like “Things could’ve worked”.
No, it's completely fine to hate someone who allows themselves to sit in what they feel to be a toxic relationship, just to emotionally manipulate the person they were dating.
100% Kelly has refused to take any responsibility for their divorce He has at least admitted he was working too much (though to be fair and I doubt he even knows it i think he subconsciously worked so much because he wanted to prove to her family and the admiralty who were all friends of her dad that he was worthy of her)
She sucks. I wanted them to work out but she breaks his heart every time.

To be fair, she really had no way to stop herself from cheating, she was literally forced to do it.
I like the Admirals response to Ed finding out "yes she pulled some strings to get you there but you have since proved you belong there"(i'm paraphrasing)
Horrible phrase, it just makes the guy feel worse; but what a stupid show it is.
I would just say: Thank you for the opportunity but a man should not accept living with such denseness!!! I don't care about your opinion, see me as ungrateful, foolish, or whatever!!! I don't want to be related to any minimum, any drop of help, of charity from this person. She condemned me with this action of hers. I'd rather live a Tragedy than accept this, I don't want the "smallest penny of this dirty money", even if the world is being destroyed and the Universe could be a better place because of me I won't help. Leave me alone and I don't want any labor rights for my service in this place, much less the slightest honor or memory, I demand that every record you have about me be erased and that they don't come to call me or look for help, I don't want anything that I achieved on her part, including that you forget about me and erase any record of me, she ruined my work, my life. Don't try to help me with anything, because my contact with you only occurred because of her, don't look for me, leave me alone, I don't want any help from you, I'd rather be killed than receive help from you because of her, because I'm just in such a relationship with you because of her, Goodbye until never again.
God I feel so bad for Ed when I watch this scene.
Nah. When something you want falls onto your lap, you take it and run. You don’t go “whyyyy did it parachute so gently im so confuseddd”. That’s nonsense.
It's really hard to like Kelly despite her character developments and her complex relationship with Ed. Infidelity is never a good plot device.
I think it was fine because it started the whole show and then it resolved itself when we found out that it wasn't her fault

Good lord I hope not. Time travel has ruined many ST episodes and films. I'd hate for the Orville to have to deal with it.

He can pick up on Kelly's lies because he was married to her, so he knows her really well. It's not the case for the Admiral.

I love that the Admiral's name is Halsey. Makes me think of Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey.

That was a great scene and so realistic. You can always tell if a couple have been married, they can read each other like a book.

The toing and froing of Ed and Kelly, it more than makes this series watchable - don't get me wrong, the CGI is brilliant, the drama and general excitement is brilliant too.

Really? I was kind of hoping Alara would wind up with Isaac considering he's the only one strong enough to handle her full strength. Her strength emasculating a guy was brought up in one of the episodes so I naturally thought they should end up together in some weird way.

Because it clear that she mostly doing it so she can feel better for cheating and him to forgive her. She putting him in a situation where he force to work with her/make up or never captained a ship. And that wrong to an extent.
@@SLDFMechWarrior Forgiveness is usually 'a' goal when making amends, so I don't know why you're making a big deal of that. On the topic of Kelly forcing Ed to work with her, that could not be the farthest thing from the truth. Ed hurt his own career with the way he responded to Kelly cheating. Kelly had to be his first officer and tie her own prospects to Ed's because no one wanted to work under such a fragile person. No one in their right mind would have put Ed in the captain's chair other wise because he had proven himself unfit to handle tough situations. Kelly, knew better though, that's why she took the risk and must have spent a considerable amount of goodwill to get Ed back on track.
That's all irrelevant to Ed though, because this is his dream and what Kelly did to get him does neither controls his future nor tie them together forever.

In retrospect, he had rights to be upset and disappointed, though, because that's like he's given a slap on a wrist while there's potential candidates who deserve to be caption than Ed. Kelly did this because of what she had done to Ed, and this is her way of apologizing.

This is the scene where I realized that "The Orville" features a host of strong female characters and no strong male characters. So it's the same anti-male tripe we've been fed by the rest of the feminist media, just not as humorless.
Seriously? Mercer is portrayed as a highly competent and moral captain, both in dialogue and in action. Most episodes feature him having to make a hard decision, often listening to the input of his subordinates before coming to a rational decision. This entire episode was about LaMarr being a prodigy, but having gotten in the habit of acting like an underachiever due to his anti-intellectual upbringing, and then learning to embrace his talents. An earlier episode was about Bortus, who comes from a stoic homogenous society, being inspired by individualistic nature of humans. The male characters are no less complex than the female ones.
Could you give me an example of what a strong male character means to you?
@@christopherverdery1294 and don't forget Gordon who is touted as being the best pilot in the fleet and it's proven to be true time and time again. He and Ed even manage to go undercover to get a copy of the Krill bible which by the way was one of the best season one episodes which I found pleasantly surprising given the premise seemed like it was gonna be a dumb "their friendship is put to the test" episode
No strong male character? What do you have aginst Ed and all the other male characters? They are all competent in their own right. And if you meant physical strength, all character that are stronger than average are species with strength as a trait regardless of gender.
