Alice Cooper inspired me to go sober after years of heavy drinking. Knowing that he beat his drinking addiction definitely helped me to to get sober 6 years ago. Thank you Alice Cooper ❤🤘🏿🤘🏿
I always here about how he was out of his mind because of drugs and alcohol during THIS period and how he doesn't even remember it, HE even says so himself, .. . yet he actually sounds pretty LUCID here!
Thank goodness he managed to get well after his heavy drinking period. I have seen him perform live during the past 15 years & he is a treat to watch, truly a legend.
As Alice once admitted to The Independent regarding the early 80's - "Crack was everywhere in LA. All my friends did it... In the end, I thought: stop. This is crazy." Alice was sober of everything "by September 28 1983, I'd beaten my demons" - this TV footage is from January, 1982.
One of the best tours from Alice. It was different and ticket sales proved that. Even the stadium shows were sold out. Special Forces rocked, great timing on Alice's part.
Saw him around this time, on the ‘Special Forces’ tour. He looked like a corpse with make-up on, but still put on a great show. He claims to not remember much from this whole ‘80-‘83 period, but I think it’s more just an excuse to not talk about it when interviewed. I think he’s still a bit ashamed of this period in his career. Personally I find this era of Alice quite interesting. He was a total mess, trying to figure out which direction to go in after punk and post-punk had changed the landscape. I like those 3 albums he did during this period (Special Forces, Zipper Catches Skin, DaDa) much better than the ‘Muppet’ era that preceded it (‘76-‘79). They’re still almost impossible to define. Not quite new wave or post-punk, not metal, not glam, and barely even ‘rock’. T’was a very strange time for Alice, and the music reflects the coke-addled psychosis quite well. I’d love to see him revisit some of these songs in his live sets.
The self-loathing is very evident here. He had just had a baby, and he was completely strung out on freebase cocaine. No wonder he hates discussing this point of his career. This kind of reminds me of that infamous 1974 Dick Cavett interview with Bowie where he’s in a similar state.
Funnily enough, Bowie claimed he couldn't remember much from his coke years either. He and Alice probably remembered more than they claimed. Fascinating era for Alice musically if terrible personally. My mother saw him on the Special Forces tour too (I believe this is the first time he toured my country anyway).
I also liked especially Zipper Catches Skin and Dada. I thought it was an interesting creative shift. I was very disappointed when "the old Alice" reappeared with Constrictor, Raise Your Fist And Yell and Trash. Can't stand that stuff and pretty much lost interest from that point. I'll always be a fan though.
Alice's "Blackout" albums are my favorite of his. Mainly because they're so weird. "Zipper Catches Skin", "Special Forces" and "DaDa" are among my favorite albums of all time. Those albums, I'll never delete from my sd card on my phone.
He's there when you think he's not He'll escape before he's caught He don't care. He don't care. He's the King the show Where now we don't know He like's his Coke with a fizz He drank it while writing 7 and 7 is Une pippi une pippi yeah.
So glad he got his act cleaned up and is the Alice that he is today. He looks absolutely sick here. And I enjoyed a lot of Alice's stuff. First concert I ever went to.
Planktontwo Me too! I saw him at his Special Forces your and I was hooked on Alice! My brother saw his Nightmare tour. Yeah Alice was reved up on crack, Coke and every little pill he could guzzle down!
i know Alice is ashamed of those years, and i can understand why. I'm still a big fan of his music of ANY era, and i like seeing videos and live footage of this stuff. I wish there was more of it. I feel like people are trying to sweep it under the rug, like "oh he was messed up then, lets forget about that'. But i LIKED that stuff! I wish it was more available and not kept as this deep dark secret. Just because Alice was using booze, it didn't make his music bad >.
He looks so much older than he was here, and younger than he is now, creating an odd effect where clips from him in 1982 don't look that much younger than clips of him today.
Few can compare! Saw him during Constrictor tour. The World needs Guts! was fantastic.....got even bigger again....with trashed! (Poison)Huge comeback! Been touring when he wants!
I always here about how he was out of his mind because of drugs and alcohol during THIS period and how he doesn't even remember it, HE even says so himself, .. . yet he actually sounds pretty LUCID here!
Of his solo career, you mean? It’s nowhere close to being as good as anything the original Alice Cooper band did from Love It To Death through Muscle Of Love. No way.
Poor thing. All that drinking finally caught up to him. I'm glad he finally got some help and cleaned himself up. I'm pretty sure if he kept going on the path he was going -drinking daily- he probably wouldn't be alive today and wouldn't be blessing us with his amazing music!♥
It was pretty obvious at the time that he was coked out of his mind. I was only 13 when I saw him on the Special Forces tour, and me and all my friends who went could just tell right away.
Sherlock Holmes said: "I suppose that its influence is physically a bad one. I find it, however, so transcendently stimulating and clarifying to the mind that its secondary action is a matter of small moment." Alice's secondary action is anything BUT a small moment. Judging from this interview, he's having an ass-fucked moment. Cocaine: It's a hell of a drug.
Less thanking Golf, More thanking Calico.. If Calico hadn't entered the picture, alice would probably be dead right now.. So she saved his life by being born, and She gets to lend a hand in Killing him every show... Kind of a nice trade off...
Just imagine being addicted to crack (it’s more of a want with crack) and having the funds to use it 24/7? To point out the obvious you just don’t want to eat on Crack and it’s actually physically difficult to eat on the stuff, just the act of chewing food and swallowing it is difficult, hence why he looks like a POW. I’m surprised just how decent the music is though.
The fact that he lived through THIS period is a testament to how much Christ can bring to somebody's life. He is much more successful again NOW than he was here and he no longer looks like a walking corpse (unless he TRIES to) Here, he looks like a skull with skin stretched over it and it isn't intentional .
And then there’s that weird thing he did for French television, where he appears to be interviewing himself. I think that’s where he looked his absolute worst.
Alice looks so bad here from the drugs, it’s no wonder why he calls this time frame the black out years, and doesn’t remember anything. Maybe it was for the best that he doesn’t remember this time.
Oh I think he actually remembers a hell of a lot more from this period than he cares to admit. The ‘blackout’ thing seems a bit too convenient. I’m sure they’re hellish, horrible, shameful memories, but at some point you have to face the past and acknowledge it for what it was.
@@frankiefelinesalwayswelcom5825 I’m mainly coming from the viewpoint of someone who’s been there myself. Not as a rock star, but as a recovering addict. When I was deep in the throes of my worst period of addiction I was basically a completely different person. The drugs and booze were in complete control of me, and not the other way around. I said and did a *LOT* of messed up things that I ended up regretting, but in order to stay clean and move on with my life I had to face up to all that shit, admit to myself and to everyone else who was affected by my actions that I was accountable, and do my best to make amends (where I could). I had burned *ALL* of my bridges and hurt a lot of people I deeply cared about, but there was no way in hell I was going to be able to maintain my sobriety without being 100% honest with myself and others about my past. I’m not saying that’s what Alice is doing. I have no idea what goes on in his private life. All I know is he’s doing himself and his fans a bit of a disservice by conveniently claiming that there’s 3 entire years of his life that he can’t remember at all. I just don’t buy it. Blurry memories, perhaps. A few “lost weekends” along the way, maybe… but “nothing at all”, for 3 straight years? Come on.
What do you mean not looking healthy? I was thinking the opposite. He looks fit here. LOL. Was he really not healthy at this time? Or have views changed towards bodies so much that if you're not fat you're not considered healthy?
Alice Cooper inspired me to go sober after years of heavy drinking. Knowing that he beat his drinking addiction definitely helped me to to get sober 6 years ago. Thank you Alice Cooper ❤🤘🏿🤘🏿
"I have more energy than ever". That'll be the coke then ...
no.. I heard it was Pepsi.
He was freebasing. Ahead of his time in this way, crack cocaine didnt really become a big thing till late 80s early 90s.
Him and Richard Pryor.

He's not on coke in this interview but he was in the Tom Snyder interview.
1:00..."I have more energy now than at any time of my life. I don't know why."
I could come up with a pretty reasonable explanation actually...
so glad he came off drugs-still breaks my heart seeing him like this,he looked worse than his alcoholic days x
I still think he looked far worse in 1979.
At this point. He was off of the stuff, ever since his girl was born. He then decided to get well coming back to the States ,, way too tempting
@@rockinrodent8137 no, in 1982 he was still using.

"Designing the new Alice"- A crack cocaine induced new wave Alice
J Kenny you seem to know ....

Alice dancing in his red undies at the end is the scariest Alice
lol
Haha
He really needed to leave 7 and 7 Is alone, it's Arthur's to sing and that's it.
Happy that he recovered!
My school teacher had that kind of hairdo.

Where do people get their stories??
30+ years sober nowadays! LEGEND
Ouch. The words spoken and the imagery.

@thebruno44 Well, in fact, he had just turned 34 when this interview was shot ! And yes, he sure looked older than he was then !
AC looks jaundiced here.
Hes really scary here
This is from the Crack Days, man Coop looks bad.
Nice...
I think this alice looks more shock looking than the "normal" one
2:02 - everybody should have an Alice - LOL

eat a goddamn sandwich alice cooper! XoXo

bloody hell THAT Alice looks sick....and i don't mean the good sick

That would be because he cut alcohol cold turkey and was just beginning to regain his health.
"I have a little girl now..."
Yeah, he put down the alcohol and picked up the crack pipe. He didn’t exactly regain his health until a couple of years after this interview.
Definitely coked out here, and he has copped up to it now.
