Alice Cooper in the 70's was the shit, and the Alice Cooper Goes To Hell record is criminally underrated... This footage is amazing, much kudos for posting.
I've seen a lot of concerts. From Elvis to Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd to Wayne Newton and everything in between. Alice put on the best show hands down. It was a play, it was a concert, it was a rock opera. Damned entertaining it was.
It's because of Alice that we have pop stars like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, etc. doing over-the-top shows with stage dancers. This man needs to credited more in the pop community as well. As it is he's already wrongfully underrated in the rock world. Everybody wants to credit Bowie or KISS for being the first to be theatrical. When in reality, it was Alice. Alice Cooper ROCKS!!!🤘
"I don't wanna' do it!" I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS ON TV - IN PURE SHOCK!! It scared the crap outa' me! …..THEN... THE MUSIC STARTED. Then, I thought… WOW ... Alice Cooper is a f-ing genus! and I went out and bought "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell" the next day!
What even more bizarre is that not long after THIS totally over-the-TOP edgy FREAK-OUT, Alice appeared on the Muppet Show! He is Amazing, and was so ahead of his time…. and is STILL making amazing music!! WOW he's like America's National Treasure!
+Old-Man Parker Oh ya...outside of Dada...which of the last 25 albums has been amazing...I'm curious? He's a Christian ..this disqualifies him from making a real contribution any longer
+David Ames His last amazing albums from the last 25 years are The Last Temptation (1994) Trash (1990) Brutal Planet (2000) Dirty Diamonds (2004) Along Came A Spider (2008) Welcome 2 My Nightmare (2011) The Hollywood Vampires (With Johnny Depp and Joe Perry and more) This is only my opinion, I am a massive AC fan :)
@@davidames1746Nice try you failed art student. Christianity has had a major influence on Art. No atheist artist can compete with the works of Michelangelo. There are countless world renowned musicians and artists that are Christian. Alice Cooper has been releasing great albums for 50+ years. He's still best live act around. He shits on whoever you think is good.
This is what made Alice special.... great music and a total willingness to break the rules. He and his original band was always underrated as songwriters and tunesmiths. So many good songs! Too bad the alcohol wiped him out...for the better part of 10 yrs. If he'd stayed the course he set in the early 70's he would have been as successful and durable as Aerosmith, The Stones... selling out arenas to this day, most likely. Great to see he is still touring and is sober... his shows are well done and still disturbing. Rock on!
pretty sure this is from the american musiv awards 1976. I was a member of the Alice Cooper fan club in 1975 and remember he hosted that with Diania Ross. Thats Alice's wife Cherly as the dancer at the end and the person he grabs from the audience.
OH MY GOSH!! Thanks so much for posting this video!! I remember seeing this on TV when I was 11 years old back since 1976. That was the greatest scene ever when Alice explodes himself there!!
OMG, thanks for posting! What a brilliant video, Alice at his best. Shame there wasn't an "AC GTH" tour. More "Goes to hell" stuff is desperately needed on youtube!
your right ,every band that was theatrical has to give Alice the credit for doing it first! I was a huge original KISS fan too when I was young ,I just thought ,why isn't every band like this ,instead of looking like a bunch of smelly hippies ! And when I heard Alice say ,all KISS is ,are 4 Alice Coopers , and then my little mind at the time had to process that, and that why all my bands were all Alice based ,in every one ,some more obvious than others ,So, as long as you admit it ,he doesn't care if you are influenced by him and borrow some of his stuff,it's fine . I've met him several times and given him demos before I showed him the image ,and he would say ,you get it ,you need good songs first ,than the image is the frosting on the cake!
I saw it when it first aired and haven't seen it since. It's hysterically funny and quite the elaborate stunt to pull off. I don't think anything like this had ever been done before, an entertainer pretending to go crazy on live TV. I'm sure a lot of people thought it was real, at first. Great music, clever lyrics, brilliant concept. Things like this are why I don't find Adam Lambert all that shocking, as this was more than 30 years ago.
NOBODY MAKES FUN OF ALICE OR SHERYL COOPER, OR ANY OF THEIR FAMILY DO YOU UNDERSTAND? THEY HAVE WORKED VERY HARD AND DESERVE RESPECT!!! I DON'T CARE IF ANY OF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM BUT THEY DESERVE RESPECT!!! THEY ARE SOME OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD! THEY HAVE A CHARITY THAT HELPS AT RISK TEENS! SO THINK BEFORE YOU BAD MOUTH PEOLE WHO HAVE DONE ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING TO DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the album. Strange thing it's not among his very best, but it holds a very special place in my heart. Reminds me of some really good times. It has this really nice, chill-out, summertime vibe to it. I like to put this album on when I'm smoking weed.
This clip is from "Don Krishner's Second Annual Rock Music Awards". It was broadcasted 18th September 1976 on CBS. Alice Cooper and Diana Ross hosted it.
WOW I was fooled! What a way to introduce "Go to Hell" by "grabbing" people from audience and geting "chased" by cops. Now this what a rock star is show look like on stage!
I ripped this off in my first band Stiletto , our first show playing a big venue , the Country Club in Reseda Ca,1986 ,at the end of the show ,our singer went crazy (acting) he was trying to beat up the guitarist and yelling stuff that made no sense , that wasnt a stretch , anyway we had 2 cops come on stage to arrest him and then I hit one ot the cops in the back of the head and then 8 cops came up and arrested the whole band ,and that was it ,we went straight out the back into a van and left, so everyone thought it was real ,so we got the bigger write up in BAM magazine then the headliner ,we could only really do it once ,before everyone found out it was an act ,we also had a ton of smoke onstage so it was hard even for people right in the front to know what was happening , all thanks to this! I love Alice !
alice i hear songs and. never bothered to find out who's singing or the band because certain songs i belive are born , grow and live FOREVER yours is what are you gonna do...i went into my room...and somebody yelled. turn that dam Thing down
Why hasn't anyone uploaded the album version of Wish You Were Here yet? It's a fantastic song and it deserves to be on UA-cam for all of our enjoyment.
I watched this the night it aired. I think my parents were watching it with me, they started freaking out, because they thought Alice had gone off the deep end on live TV, I told them "no, this is a part of his act." At that point the dancers started appearing, and I said "told you so." 😂
I remember someone telling me about this, I was shocked, seeing this myself, makes it just hlarious. The dude who told me said ''Later in court, they found out it was his wife'' xP
same here only I think I was like 7 or 8...I believe this was the year after I first heard KISS ALIVE! before I saw kiss on tv I saw this Alice Cooper bit and I was like STUNNED! Remember the place time etc. Some time the same year I think I saw the video for How You Gonna See Me Now and I Never Cry....I tripped balls. THATS what Rock n Roll was to me...and still is. Its very easy to be cynical about pop music and pop culture today after cutting my teeth on this.
JulietsMan This kicked down doors and Alice Cooper really changed American Music forever! _ I mean S & M Leather demon-woman on stage, whipping Alice? Wow that was totally not PC back then! It freaked every one out completely!!
Ach I just realized he did the whole beginning in boots O,O Lol when I first saw this I had NO idea that this was part of the act, for a second I though 'Huh, looks like the alter ego kicked in a lil too early....' AWESOME!!
Goes To Hell is one of the best Cooper albums EVER !!! .. One of the scariest guitar duo's of all time .. DICK WAGNER and STEVE HUNTER !!! ... Those guys came up with some of the best riffs in rock..
Never get away with that on live TV anymore. I'm surprised it was allowed even back then! Imagine what else exists in TV archives from just the USA of Alice's live TV performances, never mind any other country.

@theachtungtree I actually like porcupine tree,Green day,Billy Talent plus a lot more and think they are great but they don't/can't take me back in time alas....:o(
With all due respect, maybe you just don't get it. I have found over the years that for people that don't get it, no amount of explaining will do any good. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but so are the rest of us. Not sure why you decided to throw the ad hominem attacks in on the end (and before you say it, I am an Independent Atheist that hasn't golfed in years)! BTW, ask other rockers who their influences were and you will find that there is NO DOUBT that Alice belongs in the HOF.
