      @@gustafsone I was in a weekend "honor band" (I use that term loosely because we didn't deserve it) where our euphonium player had the solo in "Roaring Forties" by Phillip Sparke, and he couldn't play it without majorly cracking. I desperately wanted to ask to play his solo for his on Bari, but I shut my trap.
      He cracked in concert.

    • @gustafsone
      @gustafsone 3 роки тому

      @@jonahb6580 Yeah, I reluctantly joined the orchestra and after our first concert, I told the director that I'd still sit in and help them out in the future but I didn't want anymore solos. It wasn't that I didn't feel capable, but I was adamant in my opinion that a saxophone shouldn't be anywhere in an orchestra to begin with and while the alto is in the same key as a french horn, they still *sound* vastly different. Thankfully the director agreed and he either nixed the solos altogether or gave it to one of the trumpets.
      My main passion was jazz, and that's where all of my effort went into. I was willing to sit in with the orchestra because I quite liked the director and respected him, and I also had a lot of friends who played in the orchestra, too. It still didn't feel right playing a French horn part, though.
