"And then one of Odysseus's men opens the bag of winds right before they get to Ithaca." "What happens after they open the bag?" "What happens? Well let's go back. Let's go back."
Now I legit want to see Sal talk about classic literature in the style of Back Issues. "Teacher, why do the Greeks want to go to war with Troy?" "Well, let's go back, let's go back."
"And Diomedes throws his spear and stabs Ares who flees from the scene." "But why does Ares just kill Diomedes? Isn't he a God?" "... So anyway Ares flees from the scene."
“Reed Richards will break into your house and shoot you with your own gun.” I’ve never heard something so funny and so true in a while. Reed is kind of a psycho. Glad he’s on our side. lol
Yeah it's why the reed/doom dynamic is so fun. like reed is 2 steps away from straight up mad scientist and doom is like 2 steps and a little bit of therapy away from being a good guy.
I love how tiny the Ultimate Nullifier is and that it's so absurdly OP that the Devourer of Worlds has a bowel-loosening panic attack when Reed starts casually waving it around.
Don't mess with the Fantastic Four, try to sleep with Reed's wife, or try to destroy Earth. Reed will do research, call in some favors, and find whatever exists in reality that will destroy you irrevocably.
As a Latin teacher, I do a Back Issues on the _Aeneid_ every year. Just like the comics here, there's a bunch of outside continuity that I have to give the kids for context. Real talk, Sal has actually been an inspiration for part of my pedagogy.
Ethan should do a To Kill a Mockingbird back issues on April fools. That'd be hilarious. Also can you imagine once being a student of Sals and then discovering this channel and being like "uuhhh is that my old english teacher??? why is he swearing about Spider-Man??!?"
I would love a "The End" style story where all the heroes get their happily ever after, the villains are all rehabilitated, and peace is achieved: but the main protagonist of the book is unable to cope with a peaceful society and spends the whole book trying to adjust to a society that's outgrown superheroism
I feel like that's gotta be a Batman story on its face but you can do some interesting things with that premise with like Captain America or Spider-man.
Slightly off topic, but I feel like we need a Morbius-Deadpool crossover where Deadpool lets Morbius know that he will never be cured and have his happy ending because he's a popular spiderman villain, and see the crisis that comes with that
If you ever review “The Odyssey” or a classic novel or story, you should call that episode “Paperback Issues”… just a thought, another great episodes guys, thank you
Can I just say how impressed I am at how deep Ethan and Bens knowledge is? Ethan name dropping the incursion at the end really surprised me. This show evolved so much from Sal explaining comics to two jockels(Ben's words, not mine, see Final crisis Back Issue). Back issues is a show I will always love to watch
@@stanfordfeynman2796 No it doesn't bother me either it's just such drastic shift in the art and suddenly everybody in New York looked like they could be a show stopper in a fashion show 😂
I just imagine reed sitting down and being stress out, looks at the nullifier. "I got time to relieve stress." Go's to other dimensions and just fire the nullifier.
Hopefully, you guys can do more Back Issues for Fantastic Four, like stories from runs like Stan Lee/Jack Kirby, John Byrne, Mark Waid, and Jonathan Hickman
I’ve been rewatching back issues from the start, you guys have gotten so much more comfortable on the show and it’s great to see! And also Ethan’s face after asks called Him Dave Filoni
Fairly new viewer, been shotgunning several episodes daily as they come up on my feed, and I’m always impressed how spot on all of Sal’s impressions are 😂😂 love the channel!
In the long run this, book tracks so well for future Marvel comic book stories with the illuminati and Hickman‘s writing on the fantastic four scorching the earth of other planets for humanity safe
Do yoo mean _Crime and Punishment_ by Dostoevsky or _Pride and Prejudice_ by Jane Austin? Or perhaps some weird mash-up of the two? (I bet we could convince Tiffany to do _Crime and Punishment,_ since its the basis for _Silent Hill 2_ and all)
Honestly, _The Count of Monte Cristo_ would make a really good comic series! Have the first issue be Edmond Dante's betrayal, the 2nd issue be him in prison, the 3rd his escape from prison, the 4th him establishing himself again, and then the next 20 issues his long-game of vindication! Get someone who's really at drawing really expressive faces to do the art (I'm picutring Brian Bolland)
I wish I could remember the book, but there was a “mini story” where generic aliens are invading the Earth. The alien leader ordered someone to look up the information on Earth. The junior alien reports that Earth has repelled Galactus on two separate occasions. The next scene is the invasion force fleeing Earth
The Adjudicator should be like "Hey! I'm just here to tell you that your world is going to be destroyed. I'm not the one who's going to destroy it, okay? Even if you could hurt me - which would be like a minnow sinking a battleship, by the way - it still won't stop the Cosmic Tribunal from wiping you out. So, like, chill out and put your affairs in order. Jeez! And you wonder why you're doomed."
I'm a big Venture Bros fan. The Galactic Inquisitor joke was funny but I never quite understood what it was referencing. Now I do. Thank you! IGNORE ME!
Awesome video as usual. Hilarious and informative! Also, for anyone wondering, that Alan Moore tidbit is from his introduction to the Dark Knight Returns!
You kid Sal, but I'd be down to hear you all talk about The Odyssey. I can picture it now, Ben's making jokes about how a bunch of dude bros want to bang Telemachus' Mom, Sal's pointing out the symbolic significance of Odysseus' evolution from Dude Bro stuck on an island banging Calypso to mature into an elderly king, Ethan would shout "Let's Go Back, Let's Go Back" when they reach the part of the poem where Odysseus talks to the Phaeacians about his journey from Troy.
The bit about the Odyssey reminds me of a while back (maybe 75k live show?) when someone asked if there were any writers you guys still wanted to cover and Ben said "Kafka."
Man I don’t know what I would want more. 3 different versions of back issues (comics, novels, and manga) or just start having all 3 be a part of normal back issues.
Doom went to the NY Adjudicator because he hoped to rub it in Reed's face that he could do something about it 😂 love these random little fun stories! Daredevil or Punisher again soon? I can almost quote the old ones word for word 😂😂
I could really see Fantastic Four going to retire after committing genocide to save humanity. Like, the last story is the same as the first, but they tried to call his bluff. Reed did it, knows the cost, and knows that he shouldn't be seen as a hero and just leaves the planet.
The Adirondacks are in this book?! That's awesome. I live in the Adirondacks! This is almost as cool as the time the X-Men were in Pottersville, which is 20 minutes from my house!
I got this signed by Stan Lee a couple of years before he died. I’d like to get Romita to sign it too. I liked this book if only because I love Romita and try to get everything of his

The thing that alan moore said about comics, that they don't end it's in his introduction for the dark knight returns
I would unironically love The Odyssey on Back Issues.
"And then one of Odysseus's men opens the bag of winds right before they get to Ithaca."
"What happens after they open the bag?"
"What happens? Well let's go back. Let's go back."
the Aeneid would absolutely slap, it's basically an action movie
