The true champ for the episode was Ethan for sticking it out and coming in the show even tho he wasn’t feeling well. I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Well, things are already weird in the FF world, what else could Morrison add? Besides, I don't think they relate to the FF as much as they do the X-Men. While the X-Men are a queer group of misfits and minorities fighting for their right to exist, the FF is a straight family of celebrities. All Morrison could do with them is shake them up and leave like they did here.
And now they’re being written by the guy who did Squirrel Girl lmao (this is not an insult by the way. Ryan North is a national treasure and we must all do our part to protect him)
@@Coreyw_art Not with their names or issue numbers unfortunately. There's the one where the first issue has the gang save Reed are escaping Castle Doom and the next issue it's revealed and Doom and Reed were fighting in the background out of time and jumping in every second or so. When Medusa was on the team, the FF ended in a Salvador Dali painting and had to escape before they succunbed to his style. Hickman's run established the Council of Reeds, the Parliament of Doom, and the Mad Celestials. Passing through the Negative Zone was initially portrayes by Kirby with actual photos in a collage. The TVA was introduced in the Fantastic Four who all look like Mark Gruenwald, the real life continuity director of Marvel Comics at the time. An older version of the child the Invisible Woman lost named Valeria came before convincing Franklin to cause her own birth which had to be solved by Doom (hence her name). Galactus was killed revealing an entity he had been holding back called Abraxas who is the antithesis to Eternity. After the Thing dies they went to heaven to get him back meeting Jack Kirby who gets a call from Stan Lee who calls him to do a story with the Silver Surfer and Black Panther.
So excited to see more of the FF on this channel. I'm going to send a copy of Unthinkable and Authortative Action because i believe either of those runs (the latter immediately following the former) would be great for back issues when the inevitable Fantastic Four episode comes, closer to the film release.
Pros and Cons of Ethan being sick in this episode: Cons: being sick Pros: *being an absolute champ, playing for the team and receive an upgrade to his already soothing jazz voice*
Grant Morrison was supposed to work on the ultimate fantastic four comic but ended up not working on it. This could have been an idea Morrison had left over.
I know Sal means that this is the only Marvel Knights book for the FF during Marvel Knights heyday, but there was another FF Marvel Knights series a few years later written by the guy who did Archie Afterlife and it’s actually pretty good!
Reed and Sue's relationship was always weird especially when Byrne wrote them. The reveal that Sue knew and was interested in Reed when he was 20 and she was 10 was creepy and wrong.
@@YourMarvelFan I haven't read many John Byrne stories but I do know the weird things in those stories like the age difference Sue and Reed or Kitty and Piotr. And let's not forget about Sleez.
I hate to point this out, BUT... Wasn't the whole thing about the Skrull Alicia reveal was that she'd NEVER dated Johnny? The Skrull who took her place did, because she'd been planted to replace Alicia DURING Secret Wars, specifically to hook up with Ben afterwards, but Ben never came back so she moved to Johnny to keep her position.
Oh boy! Who doesn’t love when Comic Pop talks about the FF? I think some of the funniest bits from this show, come from FF episodes. Always love your work and keep it up!
Morrison actually wrote one of the all-time best X-Men runs for Marvel, and I think a lot of the ideas they introduced in their run influenced Hickman’s X-Men as well. It’s really high-concept and weird, even for Morrison, but overall I think it’s worth a read.
Sal's consistency of correctly using Grant's pronouns just makes me love him and this channel more and more. It's hard AF, I get it. I have my troubles too with NB folks. Just impressed as per usual.
Sal talking about Morrison's views on Sue and Johnny reminded me of when Morrison was writing Batman incorporated, and brought back the original batwoman (Kathy Kane), they had Kane marry Bruce's uncle on his mother's side. So she was legally his aunt by marriage. After her husband died and she became batwoman, her and Bruce still hooked up afterwards. Why is Morrison's search history constantly leaking into their comic books?😂😂😂😂
See, stuff like this is why I will never understand how Grant Morrison's brain works. Like, they'll write some of the most famous and seminal stories on some of DC's greatest characters, that manage to tie together all of the disparate parts of their history while still feeling genuine and maintaining the core essence of the characters, and then they'll go and say something like "oh yeah Batman kissed his own aunt in the Golden Age lmao" and I'll just be like "Why are you like this?"
It would be funny if one of Reed's big moves was to bring in Spider-man to make things much harder for both of them, but mostly for Doom who doesn't know Spider-man/Peter Parker anything like as well as Reed does.
I am surprised we haven't seen more of Grant Morrison on fantastic four because his story for the first family sounds very interesting especially from a causal fantastic four fan like myself.
I actually really enjoyed this when I read it years ago. It was one of the first fantastic 4 books I had read at the time & really had a lot of interesting things going on. I think I still have the oversized hardback.
Ya. This was a really cool plot. Morrison's characterization of Johnny and Ben I feel was way off the mark.. But the plot constantly unfolding was enough to keep me invested. I wish they'd give F4 another shot. 20 years is more then enough time to have a change in perspective on characters that you probably didnt think to fondly of before. Gotta admit, Morrison captures legacy like no other.
@@lexofpower2822 Yes I think the Morrison run is a decent place to start however if you enjoy it I would go back and read the classic Claremont era. I don't recommend starting with Claremont just because it can be daunting however it is still essential reading.

John Byrne has a weird fascination with age gaps. Thankfully Matt Fraction retconned Byrne’s retcon in his run.
