  • I found this lathe out in the desert. It had been stored in an open-sided barn. So essentially covered but with one wall being open to the elements. That gave it exposure to 40-60mph winds at times. Being in the desert that means sand, sand and yes more sand.
The Jet bd-920N is made in the Sieg factory in china. Along with all of the Harbor Freight, Central Machinery, Grizzly, Optimum, Warco, Enco... and so many others... They're decent machines but need some working in to get them going well.
While this lathe was in over all good shape it needed to be taken apart, cleaned and lubricated. I had it back and going again in few days. A buyer picked it up a few days later. :)

I have the exactly same JET machine and was thinking about restoring it. Has a bit of age, it is 15 years old but hardly used. Thanks a lot to posting these videos. There is almost nothing any where on these old machines. I know, because I have been looking for a year. Only gripe, if you call that, keep the speed of videos a bit slower and get the camera close to action.

They are really nicely put together. They're quite solid in construction. Please let me know how your restoration goes :)

I cannot tell you how much i appreciate what you have done to put this together. I couldn't find anything as detailed as this for my specific lathe the Jet BD 920, till yours. ( I can see why someone might have tossed it into the desert, though) ; With renewed vigor I am now ready to tackle the Recon of my own after 6 years of watching turn to rust. Many many thanks,

@@irestorationstudio7223 would you be open to a payment for services as I begin the tear down, cleaning and reassembly of all the components in the Drive and Quadrant Assemblies?
My Auto feed does not work so I need to figure out why.
I have removed the Drive cover and need to replace the cog belt as it is slipping, remove all the innards as you show in your Recon 3 video, clean all the parts and reassemble.
If you have the time possibly this weekend, and are willing to take me through the reassembly, for a fee, please advise.
Thx again for 'starting me up' again.

The chuck backplate unscrews off the spindle nose also I see that you did not mark the positional relationship between the backplate and the chuck to keep concentricity of the three jaw? I will have had one of these lathes for about twenty five years now. The reason I mentioned this is that the early models did not number the chuck jaws and trued the chuck and jaws together and I do not know if you found that grub screw on the back plate tightened down on the spindle threads.

On the chuck, was the wire wheel brass? What grease were you using with the brush? I have one of these I bought recently that had tipped over and has some broken parts. Just got the parts a few days ago so I will be doing the same thing you’re doing here

It's a brass coated wire wheel. I used bearing grease on the chuck. It's works super well and stays put when in use. Oh congratulations on the find. That's awesome. It's essentially the same machine as the central machinery, Grizzly, Optimum, Warco, Enco, etc. Lots of comparable parts. Super easy machines to get into. let me know if you have questions.

The hand brush was just soft steel. The powered brush was brass plated steel. The grease used to lubricate the chuck mechanics was pretty straightforward bearing grease. Nothing fancy but one that keeps it moving well and stay's put in use.

Puede depender de la configuración. En general, es una guía de correa y contribuye a la tensión de la correa.
