  • I found this lathe out in the desert. It had been stored in an open-sided barn. So essentially covered but with one wall being open to the elements. That gave it exposure to 40-60mph winds at times. Being in the desert that means sand, sand and yes more sand.
The Jet bd-920N is made in the Sieg factory in china. Along with all of the Harbor Freight, Central Machinery, Grizzly, Optimum, Warco, Enco... and so many others... They're decent machines but need some working in to get them going well.
While this lathe was in over all good shape it needed to be taken apart, cleaned and lubricated. I had it back and going again in few days. A buyer picked it up a few days later. :)

Wow! The reconditioning of the Jet bd-920n is beautifully shown through i Restoration Studio's easy to follow instructional video. When I need to restore or recondition a piece of equipment, I now turn to i Restoration Studio's videos. They're precise, easy to follow and offer a pathway to follow when restoring/reconditioning a tool. I am super excited to see Part 2 of the Jet bd-920n reconditioning video!

About a year ago, I bought pretty much the same lathe, not branded JET, but a Chinese brand. In my case it was covered in metal chips and oil and grime, and hadn't really been kept clean. So, I went through virtually the same complete tear-down, clean, re-lube, and re-assembly. You certainly learn a lot about the machine when you do this, and it is quite satisfying when you are all done.

Oh I totally agree. I love cleaning the machines as much as using them. It's a pretty stable lathe design. There are quite a few of the same kits sold under different names but they're all made in the same factory. I got mine cleaned up and off to a new owner before I had a chance to use it much but that's how it goes sometimes. I have four more waiting to be redone lol

Idk why but these lathe restoration videos are very satisfying to watch for me lol I have a 7x10 mini lathe which has since been converted to a 7x16 actually 7x18 but anyway, when I first got it, it looked like a boat anchor lmao took alottttt of wire brushing, oil and hard work to get it back to working order. Looks brand new now, I've actually got a mini mill to redo next, got it with the lathe but it's not as bad thankfully. Its satisfying to do and watch things like this being brought back to life

Oh I watch restoration videos too :) These late are super fun to get cleaned up and going. I have a 7x16 myself and love it quite a bit too. Congratulations on getting your lathe going. They can rust up quickly and look pretty awful at times. What kind of Mill are you working on?

@@irestorationstudio7223 they do rust up fast. I built a little cubicle area to kinda keep my lathe and mill separate from everything else. I use a bunch of oil and when not using them they are covered in plastic

@@irestorationstudio7223 using machines like this is actually kinda addicting to me, I enjoy using them I'm gonna be adding a cam lock to the tailstock, and a carriage lock soon as well. Then I'm gonna add a power feed on the mill. I've got the motor and everything I need already, I just have to go do it lol

Very nice video impressive whatve done to this lathe.
I'm trying to get mines to cut 18TPI but I'm unable to.
I've followed the instruction and I thought this is the way it goes.
The 1st 3 gears I didn't touch the A and B gear for what I understand this is what I set up
    A gear 32 B gear 36 and the big gear 127.
The A gear is the one above the 127 gear and the B gear is the bottom.
