As a relatively new subscriber to yourself and Simon, I'm very excited to get involved with the prompts this year!!! Prompt suggestion 1) read a book that experiments with form (epistolary novel, written in verse, multiple timelines or perspectives, uses footnotes etc.) 2) read a book in translation
I am doubling down with two prompts to you and two to Simon! 😂 Here’s my suggestions: 1. A book by a New Zealand author. 2. A book featuring the Berlin Wall. Happy picking!
Suggestions: 1. A book from a genre you don't normally read; 2. A novel set amidst a major historical event from recent history (within the last 100 years). As for getting more prompt content, what about videos with book recs for the prompts?
I am hoping to get through my 13th and final book for the 2024 prompts before the end of the year. I can’t say that I loved all of the books I read but I had so much fun picking them and it’s always great to read from my ever-growing TBR piles. Here are some prompt suggestions: 1) a book that was shortlisted for your favorite book prize and 2) a book that has been adapted into a feature film or TV series. Happy Christmas!
Happy Christmas to you too and I’m impressed by your fulsome participation in the prompts. I completely relate to the pleasure of selecting each prompt book 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
I had loads of fun doing this challenge so thank you. My prompt ideas are 1. A book relating to a hobby you enjoy or would like to start. 2. Read a book with a cover you don't like.
I have only been able to manage to complete 7 prompts this year. Prompt suggestions: 1. A book with snow on the cover. 2. A book with a fruit in the title.
Although I didn’t complete as many prompts as I’d have liked this year I do enjoy seeing which books people choose for them. My suggestions would be: 1. Read a historical fiction novel set prior to the Victorian era. 2. A book featuring a job title in the title e.g. Soldier Sailor by Claire Kilroy Look forward to seeing what the 2025 prompts will be!
A couple of ideas for 2025 prompts: a novel set in a school community; a novel with a castle on the cover; a novel by a writer who also publishes poetry; a novel with a monochrome cover; a satirical novel… Look forward to seeing what you pick out for 2025 and maybe reading along a little too. Happy Holidays 😊
Oooo I love the prompts video! I managed to complete 60% of them.. studying got in the way. 2 of them were recommendations from your videos "The Rain Heron" and "The Gallows Pole" and I loved both of them. And 2 other prompts I read will be in my top 10... really looking forward to seeing the 2025 suggestions. My ideas will be 1. book where an animal plays a main character.... 2. Read a family member or friends favourite book / recommendation 3. Spin a globe and wherever your finger lands read a book from that country. I guess not everyone has a globe, so they can use a random name generator for this.
Hi Louise! I’m excited to join the challenge next year 😊 My two i suggestions: 1. A cover with something that’s broken or falling 2. A cover with a body part or part of a body
1. A book about or featuring a hobby you have that is not reading 2. A book that has the vibes of your favourite time of year (e.g. favourite season, holiday, festival, tradition etc)
Hi Loiuse! I'd like to offer two prompt ideas: a book published the year of the reader's birth; a book published after the author's death. I love watching your and Simon's videos. Thanks so much!
Great ideas… I’ve recently read a book set in the year of my birth and found it a fascinating thing to do. I think I read it differently as a result 🤔🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
So are all the book behind you ones that you have read. You've got a fantastic library, keep spotting some fantastic books. Have the loveliest Xmas and new year ❤🎄🎄🎄📚📚📚
Thanks as always for your videos they are a joy. My prompt I’d like to put forward is a book with your favourite animal on the front, could be anything, otter, polar bear, cat etc or mythical creature even 😊 have a wonderful Christmas
Louise, thank you for all your videos and great book suggestions this year, I’ve absolutely loved your channel. Wishing you a joyful Christmas with your family.
We read the same book for the April prompt! I’m so glad I read Prophet Song back in the spring because, living in the US, it would be too stressful to read now.. Prompt idea: a book with a bird on the cover or in the title (could be the word bird or a type of bird like crane)
Dear Louise, I wanted to wish you and your family Happy Christmas and say thank you for the videos. You are so relaxing to watch and have introduced me to some very good books I would not otherwise have picked up. At the moment I am reading 'The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock', and really enjoying it. You have also inspired me to read re-told Greek myths. I come to them late in life ( I am an OAP) and love them. I look forward to seeing what you recommend in 2025. Thank you.
Prompt suggestions: a book whose title features the name of a city/ town/ village, a book with a forest/rainforest animal on the cover. A video idea could be to see what books you have read or want to read that match the prompt (so basically a recommendations video for each prompt). I wasn't really successful with any of my bookish challenges this year, but I want to try again next year, because I love looking for the right books on my shelves.
Happy to hear you’ve enjoyed the prompts this year, Louise! 🌸 I read some great ones too and a few I probably wouldn’t have been prioritising - On the red hill for example which I’m so glad to have read. But yes, the first name prompt was a difficult one for me and I was also “full” from the retellings to be honest, but it all worked out. And I read Mr. Loverman for the honorific prompt so that was an easy choice for me 😁 My only change for myself for next year - which I’m so excited for - is to be more lenient about the order in which I read them. Bc I’ve had a few where I thought they would fit a different month bc of my mood or sth, but one a month is still my plan though 😁 -My two 2025 prompt suggestions: 1) a book set on an island or 2) a book with a one word title
Merry Christmas, Louise! I came across your channel early on this year and it has fast become my favourite. I didn't read to the prompts, but found I covered all of them, except for the volcano, some several times over, just not in the given month. I might try next year, though. Prompt suggestion: A book that was longlisted for a prize, but was not shortlisted. A book set in the town or city of your favourite team.
Thanks, Louise, and Merry Christmas to you too!🎄🎅🏻😍I haven’t participated in the prompts this year, but I’m going to in 2025. Very much looking forward to yours and Simon’s video!📚☕️😍
I struggled with the name prompt because although my name is common I could only find Romance or grisly murder, neither of which are my thing. It’s also hard to search by author first name. I missed the volcano prompt too. For the honorific I read Mr Loverman that had been on my shelf for ages and I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to the next set of prompts
My prompt suggestion: A book whose cover looks very similar to another book you've read. (E.g., Michelle Tea's "Valencia" and Jessica Blank's "Almost Home".)
Hello It's my first time commenting on your channel, iI did 7 of the 12 prompts this year i struggled a bit with the volcano on the cover and I was given Eruption by James Patterson and Micheal Crition so I used that 😂. My two prompts suggestions for 2025 are A book with a building on the cover and A non British classic 😊 hoping you an Simon have a lovely Christmas kind regards
A lovely video as always. My prompt to throw into the jar is-choose a book that was first published in a country that you've never visited but would love to.
I’m looking forward to getting involved in the 2025 book prompts, my suggestions are: 1. a book with the name of a food in the title, 2. A book with a bright orange cover. ☺️
Thanks for the shout out, I love the prompts, it's such fun discover books to fit them. ❤ Prompt ideas: A book with a beverage in the title or on the cover. ☕ A short story or poem with a seasonal theme. ☘️🌻🍁❄️
A book with a kitchen utensil on the cover and/or in the title. I absolutely loved Saltwater - I don’t know anyone else who has read it until now! 😊 Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year ! 🎄
Prompt suggestion: A book with a 2 or 5 word title. So not the word two or five, but a book title made up of 2 or 5 words (for 2025 obviously). And of course the word 'the' in the title counts as one of the words. I loved the 2 or 4 in the title, so I would suggest to keep that as a bonus prompt for every year you will be doing this.
Hi Louise, I couldn't fulfill the prompt to read a book with an author who has the same first name. The closest I came to was Roy Miki (People call me Miki for short). No worries though since I LOVE Roy Miki's writing :) Ideas for prompts: 1. A book with a female protagonist over the age of 65 2. A story told in vignettes ("Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants" by Mathias Enard is one of my favourites) or a novella-in-flash (I love Diane Simmons' "An Inheritance") 3. A book that has been on your TBR (physical or digital) for 5 years or longer Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
I love the way that you got round your difficulty with the prompt- that’s exactly the spirit of the project- also love the idea of an older protagonist 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Hi, Louise, although my post has nothing to do with your video, I simply wanted to use the occasion to thank you SO VERY MUCH for introducing Marghanita Laski to me. You had recommended "The Victorian Chaise Longue" which was eery and resonated for a long time in me. I have since read "Little Boy lost" by her and exceot for the last 2 sentences, it it is just as good, if not better in terms of character study! Now reading Simon's recommending, Juno Lawson's "Stay Another Day", totally different kettle of fish, but a superb Christmas read! Thank you! 🎉
I managed to read something for all prompts this year (assuming a DNF'ed book counts...). Book with snake: Ninth House - Leigh Bardugo (DNF) Retelling: Thornedge - T. I'll be keeping that in mind when I prepare my TBR list for your 2025 prompts. Cannot wait to see what they are! 😁 The 2024 list made me try books that would not have been on my reading list for the year otherwise.
A book w a profession or trade or hustle in the title A book w an element in the title ( and/or on cover ?) 🌏 🌬️ 🔥 💦 Your Simon directed us back over here. Brilliant. I had ten typed out ten 😆 but 2 was stressful 😆 4 is good 😊 Blahdiggityblah
re community interaction: sometimes I read comments, but more often than not, I don't, so while I might know what you read for a prompt, I never know what "the community" read. And of course, I'm sure for you, hearing what your community is choosing is a big part of the fun. So if you read your comments, maybe do so with a notepad and jot down the titles or the trends you see and pick say the top 5 or 10 and at some point in your next regular video, just insert the list of books that grabbed your attention that were read by your community members. I think this may also encourage other community members to join in or to stick with the prompt reading. It doesn't have to be a big deal or a stand alone video. Just a quick, "The Savidge Prompt for January was books with black and white covers: Here is a sample what you lot have been reading: ... " If you want to add a comment about the titles as you go, great, if the list is easier, I think that's enough.
Oooh, I'm excited for 2025 Savidge Reads! I've got a couple of prompts for you: 1. A book cover that depicts a person whom you find beautiful; regardless of gender: man, woman, child, trans, non-binary, or any other classification. 2. A book cover depicting an old person -- someone whom you wish was a friend, a mentor, or a relative.
I’m glad you liked my suggestion of a Palestinian poet. I suggested a fiction or nonfiction book with a middle eastern setting to Simon which he reacted to negatively without time to consider the importance of world events happening now. There are so many books that need reading it’s a shame to cut out one area.
Suggested prompt: a book published in your birth year. Happy holidays!
I love this prompt! Great idea!
@@leabhairagustae7279 I look forward to hearing all the prompts!
Great idea! I read one recently and found it a surprisingly thought provoking experience 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Prompt suggestion: a book with a school subject in the title (e.g. English, history, science, French etc.)
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖

I am doubling down with two prompts to you and two to Simon! 😂 Here’s my suggestions: 1. A book by a New Zealand author. 2. A book featuring the Berlin Wall. Happy picking!
Thank you, Rachel… as you know, I’m gradually wing seduced by NZ fiction ☺️🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖

Thanks for these suggestions 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Hi Louise,
I couldn't fulfill the prompt to read a book with an author who has the same first name. The closest I came to was Roy Miki (People call me Miki for short). No worries though since I LOVE Roy Miki's writing :)
Ideas for prompts:
1. A book with a female protagonist over the age of 65
2. A story told in vignettes ("Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants" by Mathias Enard is one of my favourites) or a novella-in-flash (I love Diane Simmons' "An Inheritance")
3. A book that has been on your TBR (physical or digital) for 5 years or longer
Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
I love the way that you got round your difficulty with the prompt- that’s exactly the spirit of the project- also love the idea of an older protagonist 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Prompt a book by an author who is longer with us.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Suggestions for next year
1. A teenage author
2. Set in the swining sixties
Lovely. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
See if you have a fiction and nonfiction book on the same topic that you can co-read.
This is great! I think there should be more of this doubling up 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
1. A book you can link to one of your favourite books. 2. Or a book translated from the Dutch.
Thank you for your ideas 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
I would highly recommend anything by Niall Williams: Four letters of love, This is Happiness, History of the rain and Time of the child ❤️
Thanks for your recommendations 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Hi Louise I have loved doing the prompts. All but one came from my TBR and that one was for the volcano on the cover. Cannot wait for 2025 prompts xx
Gosh, you did really well 🤩 Thanks so much for participating 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
You have a few orbs floating about around you Louise.
Oh gosh! Must investigate, thanks for letting me know 🙏🙏🙏
I've just read a book about May Savidge. Are you related? Enjoy your videos very much.
That was my Book of the Month video for December ☺️ The chances are that we are distantly related 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💜💜💜

Expanding my search to French titles really helped with some of the prompts, especially the volcano one. I'll be keeping that in mind when I prepare my TBR list for your 2025 prompts. Cannot wait to see what they are! 😁 The 2024 list made me try books that would not have been on my reading list for the year otherwise.
Bravo for completing all the prompts. I’m so glad you enjoy participating. Picking the prompts has become a real Christmas highlight 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
A book w a profession or trade or hustle in the title
A book w an element in the title ( and/or on cover ?) 🌏 🌬️ 🔥 💦
Your Simon directed us back over here. Brilliant. I had ten typed out ten 😆 but 2 was stressful 😆 4 is good 😊 Blahdiggityblah
TEN 😱 That’s commitment 😂 Love it 🥰
A rabbit on the cover or the word rabbit in the title. A dove or the word dove in the title, i.e. John Updike or Larry McMurtry.
Thanks for your suggestions 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
re community interaction: sometimes I read comments, but more often than not, I don't, so while I might know what you read for a prompt, I never know what "the community" read.
This is really helpful feedback. I’ll chat with Simon about your suggestions 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
A book by a disabled or chronically ill author.
A book by an author from a country you've never read about before.
Lovely suggestions, thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
Oooh, I'm excited for 2025 Savidge Reads! I've got a couple of prompts for you:
1. A book cover that depicts a person whom you find beautiful; regardless of gender: man, woman, child, trans, non-binary, or any other classification.
2. A book cover depicting an old person -- someone whom you wish was a friend, a mentor, or a relative.
Really interesting ideas. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
A book by a Palestinian poet or a book with a color in the title.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
I’m glad you liked my suggestion of a Palestinian poet. I suggested a fiction or nonfiction book with a middle eastern setting to Simon which he reacted to negatively without time to consider the importance of world events happening now. There are so many books that need reading it’s a shame to cut out one area.
I’m sure Simon will have had sound reasons for his response 🙏🙏🙏📚📚📚💖💖💖
