Vincent Rossiter confirmed what Lester has always maintained. Sir Ivor the best horse he ever rode, and Sea Bird the best horse he ever saw. Lester knew what he was talking about.

sir ivor was a great horse, but after the derby he lost 4 in a row . beaten in irish derby , last of 3 in eclipse, beaten twice in france, including the arc where he was beaten 3 lengths by vaguely noble. And even tho he finished off winning the champion stakes and the woodbine in america., it isnt always the people who were there who are right..if i had to bet on a race between sir ivor and nijinsky, i would go for nijinsky imho...

I think Sir Ivor was bred to stay no more than 1 mile and a quarter.Piggot’s genius meant that he won the Epsom Derby. When Liam Ward rode him in the Irish Derby Piggott beat him on Ribero.I think Lester made all the difference

Sir Ivor Beat Fort Macey a very cosy half a length. However Doctor Fager beat Fort Macey 1.5 lenghts carrying 16 lbs more in the United nations international handicap against better quality field.. If Sir Ivor was rated 135, that makes Dortor Fager 151 rated beast. 4 lbs better than Frankel. There was only one Dr Fager, the greatest miler in history.
I was trying to figure out Dr Fager compared to European horses. Sir Ivor is the line.

Sir Ivor won the Washington International from Fort Macey an easy half length weight for age. A few months earlier Doctor Fager beat Fort Macey by 1.5 lenghts carrying 16 lbs more running on grass for the first time. On a line though Sir Ivor, Dr Fager ran to a rating of 151. Amazing.
Dr Fager would hammer Sir Ivor for speed

@@johnkerr7286 I just felt nijinsky more because he won over 1.6 furlongs where as sea the stars didn't he also won Irish Derby and the King George the only reason he got beat a head in the arc was because piggott said he lost 35 pound because of ringworm he felt after the win in the St leger he was not at his very best but its all good to talk about them both because the were truly great horses both rated 140 each by time form.

Nijinsky was better in my Opinion, more natural class than Sir Ivor, never one to criticise Jockeys, but Lester give him to much to do in the Arc.

You don't understand what kind of person Lester was. From a humble background, with hearing and speech defects, he became the greatest jockey in the world and Britain's most popular sportsman. He was innocent about money and couldn't see why the taxman should take most of his money when "the great and the good" were supporting him in every other way. All the time Sir This and Lord That were helping him make money, at the same time everyone who knew anything about racing could see that Lester's income (10% of prizemoney alone) was more than he declared. It was an open secret, and no one begrudged him the money. So to jail him for that was a travesty of justice. I don't think any other country would have done that. The law is the law, but there are exceptions, and Lester was an exceptional person.
