And a doctor, who saves lives, gets far far less. Sure their "playing" life might be short compared to other vocations. But the Prime Minister with far more responsibility gets 1/2 million pa, and that's way too much, his tenure isn't guaranteed either.
Servicemen get sweet f@ck all in exchange for potentially putting their lives on the line for the country... and most pay a savage cost in mental and physical health, with a relatively short working life.
