Couldn't stop my tears and that's Phil's fault when he told Mike and Toni in front of the whole audience that he loved them. I've confessed before and I'm writing it again, these guys have cured my cancer with their music and lyrics . But not because of that, it's f... the best band in this Genre.
Always will be a band i listen to for all my life after I heard Foxtrot . Seen them live and also seen Peter and Phil on solo tours. Much harder to see them when you live in Australia. Fantastic band
Genesis is one band I can always listen to no matter what’s going on in my life. I also love Phil Collins and all his music and storytelling. ♥️🤗🎶🎼🎵🎤🎧🥁
My first concert was in Montreal at the Old Forum since 75 at the age of 9 and my last was on November 22 Bell Center in Montréal , 2021 at the age at 55 never missed one . Merci for this documentary ...
I have been lucky enough to see Phil Collins perform LIVE, twice in my lifetime! Both the concerts I attended were in Philadelphia. The first time I saw him, was as a solo artist for the Serious Tour in Late Summer 1990 (Spectrum). The second time I saw him was when he performed with Genesis in December 2021 (Wells Fargo Center). I guess you can say that he sure put the "PHIL" in "PHILADELPHIA"!. All I can say is, Thank you, Phil. Thank you, Mike. Thank you, Tony. Thank you, Nic and Thank you, Daryl. Thank you, Chester.
There will never be a band like Genesis again, but we should all be thankful that they existed in our lifetime. I love this band with my whole heart❤. I can't say enough about how their songs have brought me joy and sadness throughout my life, and I will miss them terribly.
This band is/was probably the best, most musical band Ive ever known. So inspiring and a band apart from Beatles, The Beachboys + a few more but this band is the one I learned the most from.
What a band and history. Starting with Peter Gabriel the first front man and Phil picking up the reins and taking the band to the next level. So lucky to have been around this most of my life. Started when I was born in 70.
13:20 There’s that classic Phil smirk that warms my heart in this case, because despite everything he’s gone through health wise, our beloved Phil is still there ❤❤❤❤
I suffered a serious health issue around the same time as Phil. It's affected so much of what I used to be able to do so I can relate to Phil's problems. I've been a fan since 1971 and have seen them live at least once on every tour, the last being 2007. This time around I couldn't gop due to mobility problems. I'm now glad because to see Phil as he is, requiring backing singers because his once mighty voice has gone would have broken my heart. Time is a real bastard as you get older.
Yh it hurts to see him in that poor ass condition etc...BUT I know that after 50yrs alone constant drumming, crushing vertebrae, surgeries, man oh man..thats alot..I only got to see em once, just once lol!!AND IT WAS THIS TOUR HERE,COLUMBUS,my buddy had a ticket and we went...I know sitting down too during the shows don't help either, that takes away more lung room that what little u already have lol!!I couldn't pass it up, and I loved the acoustic set they did!!the rest was u know, the hits, alot of stuff from 83-92...Nic was marvelous!!he plays like daddy lol..the background singers,I thought yh they helped actually, fleshed out the sound with extra percussion and vocals..even though alot didn't like the extra ppl,it helped,if they were gonna sound good with Phil and all..but hey at least I got a show, and show from Steve Hackett as well hahaha!! FOR GENESIS🥃🍻😁✌️🤟
I'm just speculating (from personal experience), but I think Phil's ability to sing isn't just from getting older. It could also be from a certain amount of Depression from His current state of health, taking his lack of enthusiasm and energy. Depression can be weakening at times, and make everything tiresome. Phil is a fighter & We All Love Him.❤️👍🏾
Vous trouverez en très bon documentaire. Yes. A very good documentary. Outstanding performance of "Mama". A song that has always been dark and frankly, frightening. Putting that rehearsal of "Mama" into the film deserves a big thank you to PBS. Mr. Collins' performative enunciation, surrounded by Messrs. Rutherford & Banks plus other musos, stagecraft unfolding around them, made it the most mesmerising performance of "Mama", ever.
Can’t blame PG for not wanting to do the nostalgia thing with his former band and mates. Being out of the band for over 4 decades he felt this wasn’t his band anymore. Furthermore, many fans and critics would be micromanaging him and expecting a carbon copy performance of the early days. I’m sure this was in the back of his mind. Sometimes it’s best to leave the past where it belongs…..in the rearview mirror. It has been an amazing ride for Genesis and the fans for half a century. We still have Steve Hackett performing the classic 70’s era Genesis which is amazing.
In an obvious concession to Phil's faltering voice (heartbreaking to this longtime huge Genesis fan), many of the songs are transposed down a major third (e.g. "Mama" from E minor to C minor, "Duchess" from E major to C major, "Land Of Confusion" from Eb minor to B minor, "Throwing It All Away" from Db major to A major...), others a whole step (e.g "That's All" from E minor to D minor). The "Cinema Show" keyboard solo, which is instrumental, is in its original A major key.
It was a great tour. I can’t even complain about Phil or the sound because it was phenomenal. Maybe Hackett can get some of them together for a tour? 😂
Musically as a band on their final 2021 world tour, Genesis has never sounded better. Nick brings a new modern sound to the band. The two new backup singers further enhance the modern sound. The technology has also never been better. Vocally, Phil peaked in the early to mid 1980s. Musically, Genesis peaked around 2021. This documentary reveals that significant divergence.
He needs to go out gracefully at this point..he had a helluva career but clearly he sounds like a 90 year old man doing karaoke..its awful and tough to watch
@@mathisdacquarica7611I disagree. I think particularly with the Last Domino Tour Phil wanted to play with Nic on the kit. He’s a very proud father, with good reason. I’m grateful I got to see all of them again. It was like a family reunion. Yes, everyone is older but the love and respect is still there
One commenter rightly pointed out that Phil sounds like "90 year old man doing karaoke".. I am a big Phil fan and not knocking him but there is a powerful lesson in there re. the current mentality of audiences who will pay big money to go and listen to 'the greats' no matter HOW far their capabilities have declined, rather than pay a fraction of that amount to go see a younger act at the top of their game.
What the hell is your point? So calice. I am thinking you are all about money. Your not a true Genesis fan. The arrogance. To stand be the before genius and not see it. What the f k is your problem?
Great documentary and song excerpts! I am a bit nervous hahaha, however, that I hear a great one and a half minutes of Jesus He Knows Me instrumental, which has never been played! Maybe someday we will hear the full version with Phil's vocals!
Paweł Bielicki, Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but here goes anyway. The slightly edited "official" video for "Jesus He knows Me" is on UA-cam. The only missing parts are brief, the guy in the big stetson in the limo, for example. The original ending is missing in its entirety but, is not 90 seconds worth, anyway. The video edit hardly affects the music. So I'm not really sure what you mean. Mr. Bielicki. What instrumental part do you mean?
@@BioDieselEstate Thanks for the question. You misunderstood me. I mean the instrumental part from this The Last Domino Documentary PBS- NOT THE STUDYING VERSION. In this document, under which we are writing a comment, there is a concert version of Jesus He Knows Me, but from rehearsals - an instrumental part. From 5 minutes to 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Please listen again. This is not a studio version.
Many tried, but no one ever managed to achieve the level of quality music that GENESIS have created. And to say it in the words of "ABBA" - Thank you for the music Tony Mike and Phil. However, the fact that GENESIS never released a live DVD from their Last Domino Tour tells you how bad it was, with all the songs transposed down by up to 7 o r8 tones and Phil's singing just about acceptable on the night, but perhaps not good enough for an official Live-release... Still the concerts were a great place to be to reminiscence about the past ;-), because at the end of the day "all we possess is the past" 🙂
Time to end the charade that Phil can still sound half decent..its over its almost abuse at this point..call it a career and go out gracefully..to continue on is just insane
I'm getting the sense while watching this that the band (comments from Banks, Rutherford and even Nic in a more gentle way "He has a lot of personal things..." ) feels Phil could do more, even drums, if he put the time in. Mike sounds disappointed in him.
Unfortunately Phil did a lot of damage on his own to his body. If he didn’t have the fall accident he might’ve been able to do some drumming, but nothing insane.
Such a shame he's in bad health, his voice has gone, trouble is this tour was planned before COVID and in the next few years his body has let him down.
I first saw genesis at farnborough technical college in 1973 and I saw Peter Gabriel dancing about with a foxes head on. I thought what the heck is this….
The vocal performace of Phil is a difficult listen...they should have decided against this tour, he gave it a good try but someone should of put a stop to this
It is true! In 2007 all the songs where Phil plays drums were slowed down a lot. On this tour Phil's voice is simply unlistenable. Tony and Mike also seem unhappy with the show.
All the songs are detuned just to give a chance to Phil to hit the notes, that’s just awful. Sorry but I don’t get it. I’m a big Genesis fan since 1984, and I can’t listen to that. Not possible. They should have never done these concerts. I understand the point, but man, when a member can’t sing, and when it’s especially the lead singer, you’ve just got to give up. This is not what I wanna remember of my fav band. Everybody has his own opinion about this reunion, and that’s mine. 2007 was THE perfect year to stop. Period.

Poor Phil, saw him in the 80s, he was amazing!
I saw him back in 1990, but that was when he was performing as a solo artist.
I think titling the tour The Last Domino? was Tony's way of forcing Phil to sing the "sheets of double glazing" lyric one more time before the end.
