    I ran this boat pretty hard in the salt water and even jumped some waves. I had a good time and now it's about time to get the maintenance going. We will do a a common 2 step maintenance procedure that is easy and will keep the boat operational for a long time.

    Appreciate this factual and relatively to the point video on how to maintain electric boats in salt water. I mostly fly gliders and jets and this boat thing is tempting! I'm not sure whether to get another plane or boat next.... the simple maintenance of the boat looks fun enough to want to get me involved. Too much maintenance as in anything glow or gas just turns me off.
    Thanks again for the video.

      hey man! yes!! Totally, I don't just do one video and toss the thing, I find that really disrespectful to the hobby and the viewers. UA-camrs these days just make vids to get products sold, with no real respect for what they are talking about, and they treat the audience like a 13 year old child without short-term memory, lol. I plan to run this boat for years to come and I can guarantee you will see it next summer and it will still be kicking some ocean AS*!!!!

    just a tip for you :D. Usually, it's a lot simpler to put the receiver into a balloon and zip tie it on the cables. It's a way nicer solution to keep it waterproof. I did that on my two boats that I have owned. Did too many swim aways with them so I found them a nice new home and owners that are ready to swim if something goes wrong while running :D.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 роки тому

      hey man! Yes, that will be exactly what I will do to the boat I the future, including the lipo. I think the lipo is more valuable and needs more protection from salt water corrosion than the RX. The lipo has many opening that are not waterproof, what do you think?

    • @Rocherhead
      @Rocherhead 4 роки тому

      @@hybrid32494hey man! Anyhow its best to dry the whole boat after running, so it's best to keep electronics waterproof. The salt water can run into cracks of the casing in which the electronics components are seated and stay there. You can't easilly dry it out, without taking the whole thing apart. Therefore I think it is best to keep electronics components protected more then the battery. The only weak point of the battery is the balance lead. The lipo cells are incased and are splash proof, but the balance connector is more vulnerable to shorts caused by salt water. So tug it away wisely. Also usually if everything is sealed good there is only a bit of water that comes inside the hull when running. Make sure that you have sealed the lid with electrical tape or something similar when running and all will be good! Also regularly check the seal around the lead if it needs replacing.

    You need keep approximate 1mm gap between the propshaft and the tube. When the axle drives the prop it becomes a tiny bit shorter.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 роки тому +1

      hey man! thanks for the info, I'm still learning many of the boat related maintenance and running methods. Anyway, do you mean I should keep a 1mm gap where the prop is in the back? There is a plastic washer on the line already. I will unscrew it some, thank you.

    • @cnnlt200
      @cnnlt200 4 роки тому

      @@hybrid32494 yes there i mean. The plastic washer will worn out real quick if you don't keep the gap. The plastic washer need to have 1mm play between the back. Will search a proboat manual for you and send it. Also always store the prop shaft outside of the boat and lubricate it. Love your video's BTW.
      Lubricating the flex shaft is vital to the life of the
      drivetrain. The lubricant also acts as a water seal, keeping
      water from entering the hull through the stuffing tube.
      Lubricate the flex shaft and all moving parts after every
      30 minutes of operation. Lubricate the drive strut after
      every 90 minutes of operation.
      1. In the hull, use 2 10mm open-end wrenches to loosen
      the collet nut from the flex shaft.
      2. Slide the flex shaft out from the stuffing tube and
      drive strut at the rear of the boat.
      Tip: Use paper or cloth to touch the flex shaft and other
      lubricated parts.
      3. Wipe the old lubricant and material from the flex
      shaft.
      4. Lubricate the full length of the flex shaft assembly
      up to the drive dog using marine grease (PRB0101 or
      PRB0100). Also apply grease to the collet threads.
      5. Carefully reinstall the flex shaft in the drive strut,
      stuffing tube and collet. If the flex shaft is difficult to
      remove or install in the collet, use a flat screwdriver to
      spread the grips of the collet.
      Ensure there is a 1-2mm gap between the drive strut and
      drive dog to allow for flex shaft shrinkage under load.

      @@hybrid32494 Hey pal!
      First of all, the explanation and the whole video is really nice!
      So my to additional advices are:
      1.When you reinstall the drive flex shaft (!This advice is only for flexshafts!) you need to set up the necessary axial clearance between the white torsional damping and the sterntube ,with a clearance of 0,5mm you should be good to go!
      (You can use a 0,5mm gasket paper as spacer,this is the way that I use to do it)
      This is due the fact that the flexshaft will contract as soon as it is on load ;-) otherwise you might damage your flexshaft an create additional friction but also wear on your white torsional damping.
      2.If you drive your boat on saltwater it wont be wrong to apply before and also immediately after each run something like WD40 (this will act highly rost preventive) on all visible metall parts like screws etc. You can also apply a little spray of this directly into your coling tube after the ride.After this you should do exactly what you have done on the video with the fresh water procedure :-)
      As mentioned before,everything else is correct and very nice presented on this video !!
      Hope I could help a little with the little two advices..
      sorry for the one or the other english mistake since im not an english native speaker ^^

  • @nitrogas5719

    Hey bro I need some tuning help, my engine after a wot pass the idle stays up for 4 seconds then it drops down. Also is it normal for an engine idle to be higher when it’s cold and drop down to normal when it’s at operating temp?
    Thanks man

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  4 роки тому

      hey bro! thanks for watching! All the issues you're describing are quite normal, and I know it's not ideal. Usually you can get rid of about 80% of the idle issues with correct carb tuning. First, can you tell me if the engine is running too hot? There really are many variables here. This is called "2-stage idle" and most low end engines have it due to the carb and the needles. Not really something you can totally get rid of without getting a high end carb. I'd recommend you richen (turn left) your low speed needle (1/8) turn at a time and also 1/4 turn left on the High speed needle. You are just doing trial and error type tuning at this point, you know. Each engine will respond slightly differently because of many other factors. Let me know if this gives you any better results my dude, then we will know.
