Now, these two take it to a whole different level... Sometimes when I watch them perform I feel the need to look away, or fan myself, because it's like I'm being allowed to see something that I shouldn't have been allowed to see. Their chemistry on the ice is completely otherworldly. They make it look soooo scandalous, that it's no wonder everyone thinks they're in love. haha
I’m seriously beginning to doubt their “secret love” myself. Not that I wouldn’t be happy if it WERE true. But, here’s the thing. When they’re on the ice, what we see really IS an act. They are playing up the sexy seduction act to the hilt. It’s what they do. They KNOW it makes people love to watch them. Their act attracts fans. Now, compare/contrast Tessa & Scott on the ice (all sexy and steamy and hot) with Katia Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov (the TOP Russian pairs skating team from back in the late 80’s and early to mid 90’s - they won Gold at the Olympics both times they competed, in 1988 (Katia was only 16 and Sergei was 20) and again in 1994 (they were married with a baby daughter by then). Now, here’s the thing. They skated together from the time they were kids, just like Tessa and Scott. But they actually DID fall in love (right after their first Olympics in 1988 when they won Gold) and dated and still skated together and eventually married and still skated together and had a baby together and still skated together....and when you watched them skate together when they were a real couple, you could just FEEL their love. You could see their love....in the way they gazed into each other’s eyes when they performed, how they smiled at each other, the way Sergei so gently lifted Katia overhead and held her and softly caressed her shoulders and kissed her hand after their programs and always held her so close.... They weren’t all steamy and sexy hot while out on the ice.....but it was so obviously pure love. As if both of their hearts were beating as one. Their love was sooooo obvious in all the programs they skated after they fell in love. They didn’t try hard to sell it. It just existed for all of us to witness and behold. So, with that said, I can’t help but think that just MAYBE Tessa and Scott are just playing roles here..??? I just don’t feel the love that was so obvious when watching G & G perform back in the day. Watch G & G’s 1994 Olympic program - Moonlight Sonata. Watch how tender Sergei is with Katia. And that program doesn’t even compare, doesn’t even come close to the love they exude in several of their World and Nationals and professional programs - like “The Man I Love” (my absolute all-time favorite program of theirs) and the Porgy & Bess number.
