    The fact that all these newer engines like torch and alphazero throw away so much material for piece activity just further shows how far Morphy was ahead of his time

    I've watched so many Gotham Vids in the last days... I saw a soccer game the other day and thought the striker should capture the defender to put pressure on the goaly.
    Moral of the story: Gotham>Soccer
    Btw love how he is the only American I know, and I've lived and worked in the states, that properly appreciates soccer, even compares it to chess regularly.

    Wholesome comments are deserving 👏 I'll definitely not play that well, but you explained this game primo. I'm one of those people that never played a game of chess before Gotham, but you hit on some ah-ha functions. The direction your pieces are attacking, predicting what files will benefit the rooks, all around stellar stuff. This was a chefs kiss education imho.

    Got the pre-ordered book today, Oct 24! Thanks. One of the neat things is not needing to set up a board or an analysis board and play the moves out between diagrams of the board and comments where several moves take place between the diagrams. This new way of presenting the moves is refreshing.

    Hi Levy from one of your U.K. subscribers. A great big thanks for the link to order your book from Waterstones. I love the layout, and the way you “write like you talk”. I agree it will become a classic text to learn and improve at Chess. I will be using it as a refresher to get me back in to Chess, and hopefully play competitively online for the first time! All my competitive chess was over the board at University in the 1980’s(yes I am one of you older listeners!lol). Awesome book! 👍 Great review of that Torch game too!

    Chess but a pawn spawns every 4 moves. You start with no pawns. Players choose where it spawns and it can be any empty space in the closest 2 rows.

    8:22 take a moment to appreciate this beauty. at first i thought "but wait, queen can a8, trade rooks, kc8-qc8 and it's equal" BUT - ka7 is discovered attack on the queen, so you can't trade rooks, AND Queen HAS NO OTHER MOVES oooooooooh what an abomination, engine brains, my man

    @6:29 the answer is, you only played a genius level move IF AND ONLY IF you played the correct follow up. No single move is good in chess, its about the artwork after it

    I am Australian and I play chess. I was really bad (700 blitz) but after watching your videos I am worse (550 blitz). That said, I now understand better why I lose and also I often lose to experiment with SACRIFICING THE ROOK!!!!

      It is a free rook, Gotham’s just trading the rooks off the board to show that the endgame will be drawn if white trades off pieces

    I don't care about what the comment section says. Good or bad opinions. Levy has improved his content so much, in a great manner for my liking. The length of the video and the UFC-type commentary makes it more alive, like a chess game should be. Every chess game it's a tense battleground where two strategies collide and merge into each other.
    Great work Levy. Keep going, in a way you don't burn out, and we will keep watching you!
