Great looking fly. I really enjoy fishing suggestive patterns like this. They don't really look like anything in particular, but they look a little bit like everything.
Great looking duster mate. Bet that one be a killer if you do one in olive. Love the video where you took us all fishing 🎣 with you mate. Thanks for sharing with us all. Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken
A wee cracker and nice use of mole fur dub, which never gets much love. i like the idea of leaving a tuft of wing post over the back. I've used a similar dressing - the Grizzle Duster - in small sizes; but more often postless as a cripple to very good efffect on low, flat water, when spooky trout are just sipping. (Tiny and tail-less is good for midges/aphids and even in black when wee beetles/ants are on - it's very versatile) I first came across the postless Grizzle Duster in a book by Peter Gathercole (The Handbook of Fly Tying) about 20 odd years ago and he showed a stem-loop technique. I know other ways using mono, but I prefer the stem-loop as it's one less step - though maybe wasteful of genetic hackles! Perhaps you could show a postless variation some time, it's an interesting fly tying technique.
Hi Paul, I think I dye about 20% to 30% of the materialsI use just to get the odd colour I like or to get colours I can't buy in certain materials like CDC and some dubbings..I use Veniards dyes as they have the colours to suit the flies we fish. I've attached a link to their dyes as well as a chart showing marabou they have dyed using them.. All the very best Davie www.veniard.com/colour-cart www.veniard.com/veniard-dyes-tube/p/5668
Hi Simon, Veniards Parapost is a good one so I have attached a link for you to see.. All the very best Davie www.theessentialfly.com/veniard-para-post-wing-grey.html
Almost like a pattern I have come up with called the green Gandy I use it on the Gandy river inWV and all the other native streams in the area it works from late spring all the way into fall
Hi Stuart, It was a size 12 Cinnamon Caddis D.H that I I used to hang the nymph off later in the video though a size 12 Grey Duster version will work just as good as it will also take fish..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie
Hi Brian, Rabbit underfur is a good sub but if you have not got this then just use a light grey dubbing or even wool would be fine as I have used this myself as well in the past and it still worked well.. All the very best Davie
Beautifully tied as always. There is something special about simple flies with few materials that catch fish so well and also look amazing in the box.
Gave this pattern a try on my local stretch couple of days ago & it saved me from blanking with a few nice grayling to the net. Cheers Davie. 🎣👍
Hi Jonathon,
It's saved me many a time as well it's a great style and pattern, thanks for letting me know and well done..
All the very best Davie
Cheers Davie, really appreciate you showing the tying of the flies you are actually using in your videos on the river

Saw you using that fly on your video and it was catching fine….both grayling and trout. Smashing fly, cheers Davie

A beauty, Thanks Davie
Great looking fly ! Mega Thx.
Great fly Davie, as you say it represents a few flies. Cheers, Big Davie
Used mole on my last Iron Blues. Worked great. My Dynamite Harry’s haven’t been so good but practice make perfect. Fun stuff.
Damn! That is a great fly. SO adaptable. Off to make a dozen.
Love it Davie , so easy to tie in small sizes for late summer /Autumn
Thanks Davie. I will have to ty up a few to put in my box and see how it works on cutthroat in N. Idaho.
beautiful Davie
Love this pattern Davie.
Hi, Davy. Do you dye all your own stuf or do you buy it pre dyed. Also can you recommed a dye for fly tying materials. Thanks

Simple ,small and deadly. Thanks Davie. Will this work on the lakes as well as running water? Many thanks.
Hi David,
It will certainly fish on the lakes as much as the lochs and I'm glad you liked it..
All the very best Davie..
Great to see the fly in action as well as how to tie. Was it that size you piggybacked the nymph on?

Would there be a substitute to the mole fur?
