Terry would like to thank everyone for watching his full, unedited interview. He understands not everyone will agree with his statements, but states that is why our freedoms are so important, so that everyone have the freedom to speak even if there are differences of opinion. His first wife, Kaye, passed away of cancer in 2017. He still misses her very much and appreciates people mentioning her. We have his letters to her, while he was in Vietnam. She saved them all. He suffers from PTSD and does not sleep well at night. He has triggers and we never know when they are going to pop up. Time has not helped and after so many years of not talking about Vietnam, it is in the past two decades that he has been able to talk about it as he does in this interview. He hopes it helps other veterans to talk about their experiences. He relates to some of the comments some of the veterans have posted here, and is glad some can relate to him. It is truly a brotherhood that one cannot understand unless one has lived it oneself. He has lived a life that he hopes honors the buddies he lost in Vietnam. We have found family members of some of those that died at his side. He is still in pain over their loss. It will be with him until he passes. They were so young and no matter how much training they received, NOTHING prepared them for combat, until they were there and learned hands on. He prays EVERY day for our veterans and enlisted and for their families. He reads every one of your comments, so thank you for not only watching the video, but also taking the time to write your comment and for sharing this interview with others. I have donated to Voices for History for interviews to be shared of our female veterans. But, you can donate for any veteran’s story. Each person that has served has their own story to tell. Some are similar and some are not, but it’s their own story. God bless them, God bless you, God bless our country and give our leaders, no matter the party, the wisdom to keep us safe.
I first met Terry Simmons when I was working at Food Lion in Woodruff and Roebuck, SC. He was one of the nicest customers I ever had the pleasure of knowing.
What a guy. You are what it means to be a veteran. I live in SC too brother. Drafted in 1964 and served with the AF from 65 till 69. Worked on the J-57 engines in the lead sled, F-100 Super Sabre. Love you brother! God bless you and your family!

My father went in 67-68 . I wish he would have talked more about it but I understand why he didn't. 101st airborne, he was in signal brigade at a Mac v unit up north. Cancer took him this year and I miss him dearly.
Thank you sir. No way to ever thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country. 🇺🇸 My uncle had already served in WWII and Korea( like my daddy James Shields ) but stepped up to serve the 101st in Vietnam. I believe he did 3 tours, PROUDLY. I was blessed to be born until an old Southern military family. I’m so incredibly blessed. As are you sir. This comment is in honor of ~ G. C. I have started and restarted a comment here because it’s hard to even know what to say after the horrors you went though. I am grateful for your service. You did do the right thing. Don’t ever doubt it. You did your job, Sir, and did it well. You all should have had a heroes welcome. Much love and gratitude from my husband and I, from our family to yours. Bless you and your family.
I’m a Vietnam Veteran 67/68 during TET. I was on the DMZ at Camp Tien Sha a supply depot. We got mortared every day and you prayed your name wasn’t on a mortar. I know and feel what the bro vet went through. GOD Bless him !
I’m a Vietnam veteran, and this soldier’s story is heartbreaking; I cried when he cried. I lost my best friend from high school in the fighting, and he too was with the 101st Airborne. I was a Marine at Camp Carroll (a forward gun base) during the TET Offensive. Thank you Terry for sharing your story, and God Bless you.
I've watched many of these Vietnam veteran interviews. This is one of my favorites. You can tell how genuine and nice this man is. His descriptions really show the terror they were exposed to. And a normal human reaction of being asked to do things that were not normal. So glad he made it back, and had an impact on his community.
That shave-tail Lieutenant that sent this gentleman out on the ambush patrol where he got hit is the type of quote unquote officer that got fragged over there in Vietnam. What a ridiculous thing to ask of those fine young men. I didn't catch how many died on that patrol but unfortunately it sounded like the VC or the NVA that ambushed them did a pretty damn good job. Such a waste. Another wonderful interview my very brave incredibly humble American!
Great story and I pray that everybody gets to listen and understand the last part of this interview. Terry y'all did do the right thing and thank God for men like you. Welcome Home
America's best! Thank you for another superb interview. Our veterans, in my opinion, and those currently serving in our Armed Forces, have always been our best citizens, our best people, and more than anyone else, my favorite Americans. When Carter allowed the Draft Dodgers come back from Canada, I was at Selfridge AFBase MI and we had set up to process some of them (we were 5th Army Group) and it hurt me so bad. I went and served in my combat group; 101st Airborne, while wife and child were alone stateside ... they paid a price along with me and these guys were even given job/employment help???? Every time a man ran from his call up by the draft board, the next guy on the list had to step up and take his place.

I'm a 73yr. old Australian who was eligible for draft at the same time. The result of the draft was that I wasn't required. I've regretted to this day I didn't volunteer. Even now I think why I wasn't selected to fight in a war like that and many years later a part of me regrets it so much but a smaller part says thank God. My heart goes out to those who did what needed to be done. Especially those who didn't come home. You paid the supreme sacrifice so I, as a keyboard warrior can give you my most humblest respect. LEST WE FORGET.
You men and women that served in Vietnam have never been given the credit you deserve . thank you and God bless you.it is said that we lost that war..bulls_____t you stopped china from expanding communism in that part of the world. Thank you again for your service

I'm a 73yr. old Australian who was eligible for draft at the same time.
Just simply want to say, thank you. God bless you.
