  • In this video I test torque specs from 25-55 inch pounds on the action screws of my synthetic stock Mossberg Patriot Predator. All testing completed at 100 yds, cold barrel. SPOILER: do not use 55 inch pounds for synthetic stock rifles. If you want to support the channel further, and enjoy exclusive content, join my Patreon account / robsreloading

By increasing torque and not loosening there was no reason to bump the stock again. It wasn't going anywhere. Good video showing that the torque did make a difference. I have seen other videos that show the same. It is better to do 5-inch pound increments vs. 10-inch pounds. And if the group is fat early best not to waste anymore bullets on it and use them on other tests. It was nice for you to point out the flaw in the Mossberg as well. Glad I have a Savage instead.

I loved your video sir! Just curious, do you think adding some washers as spacers might help it to not brake. I might be way wrong, but, just a thought.

really helpful! thank you. Managed a 1in group at 100yds, but a lot of the groups had 1 flier. Will be playing to the torque in 5lb increments up to 35 to see if it helps.

I have a patriot .308 which now shoots 180g subsonics perfectly. However what I am learning the problem with these rifles is the stock, they need upgrading from the plastic one to either a walnut or Boyds stock both are available. I can move the plastic stock under the barrel in all directions with my fingers so what does that say when the gun goes off and its sitting on a bi pod, the shot goes anywhere it likes.

Good information. Savage specs are 35lbs. My rifle is off im going to torque mine today. Think I'll loosen screws first and then tighten to spec. I'll also see if savage has the same empty space between the action screw and the stock. I'm really starting to not like the plastic/ composite stocks. Thanks for the video 👍

Honestly you won't have that problem with a Savage stock. If you haven't noticed, you have steel pillars in the stock. I think the only concern you may have is barrel touching the stock if any at all. One can always do a sand paper job on the inside to resolve the clearance if there ever is a problem.

I wonder if changing the scope mounts to a rail has made everything wonky.?

Just watched a vid about mounting Boyd stocks and the guy said he was going to try a different torque. I’m like what da fucks that gotta do wit the price of milk in China. So I’ll check a different source and found this vid. The 308 been shooting like ass so I got it out got a wrench…….. action screws loose😮can’t wait to shoot tomorrow and this tells me a torque wrench is need.

Mossberg didn't address the underlying issue. They offered to send me a new mag guide and magazine. I took them up on the offer and in the most recent 6.5 creed video, shoot the best group with the gun so far.

I have a Mossberg Patriot and notice they bedded the barrel on plastic. Big mistake, you can wiggle the action left to right there is so much slop, I JB welded the inner plastic to the wood stock and now there is no play. I still need to bed the barrel under the chamber but it is much tighter now. This was in .270 and I had it rebored to .338-06.

Yes, I recently pillar bedded my rifle, and it has been shooting consistent sub MOA groups since!

I have several Mossberg shotguns they are pretty much bulletproof. Mossberg rifles not so much they should have stuck with scatter guns. Just my opinion.

Why aren't you zeroing your scope after each retorquing ?

What good would the test be then. If you zero it after each tq spec it would be zerod to whatever tq spec you choose

Mine shoots moa at 25 inch pounds you shouldn't exceed 35 inch pounds on these guns

    • @RobsReloading
      @RobsReloading  3 роки тому +1

I agree with that. The plastic cannot take much more than 35 inch pounds. I wish they made a metal mag insert to replace the cheap plastic one.

@@RobsReloading that's why my patriot is my truck gun now lol. I bought a savage 110 storm for my carry deer rifle. Mossberg was too cheap feeling. But it does shoot

Not to be rude but your scope rings aren’t adjusted ideally. The rear should have a little room from power adjuster and front is to close to center of scope. These need a little room at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

  • @josel1948

The way you adjust the torque is a fail. You'd loosen the bolts first and then toerque them again. Rest is rubbish.
