@TramiNguyen-oi3kp bro so out of context just random but I will say kirby is probably one of the cutest characters I've ever seen
@YisuselPrime ayo I love sonic i am a fan of it too but at this point it isn't relevant no offence BTW Sonic is one of the best fictional characters I'll give u that
Mario straight up dies in the old one
Yeah, old Mario was sometimes more grim
Ugh mama Mia doo dee dee doo
"i am dead"
It is certainly a highlight on how much Nintendo has changed.
Wait until you play DK94'
literally all of the death animations with the exception of up squished are straight up downgrades
Which is weird, because those old GBA animations in the remake ARE actually in the game’s files, but they go unused.
Might can be added later

The GBA had more amusing injuries.
Which is perfect because it shows the charm of how the game can be challenging and fun.
But Nintendo jyst LOVES making games for babies, so they took away the funny violence

@@bigprogaymer6923not really and I hate whenever someone says this. Nintendo games are made for everyone, just that kids can play doesn't mean it's made only for them. And plus, kids can take difficulty.
@@varietychan You know how it is these days though. The woke culture will look for ANY excuse to either sue or complain, no matter what kind of media they have set their sights on.. I'm sure SOMEBODY out there would've been offended by Mario's death animations in the GBA version if Nintendo hadn't changed them.. Quite sad, as I definitely prefer the older death scenes :/.
At least they kept the best death animation of being squashed.
Yeah, but they got rid of the funny *squish* sound.

We could’ve had nothing at all.
I guess the GBA death animations were too brutal. o.o;
They are unused in the remake oddly
The original was so entertaining and hilarious as it just shows so much fun and challenging it is.
Remake has gone to the so called too easy soft kiddy territory as they have toned down Mario’s dramatic death animations to soulless BS!
Come on, I played this as a kid and it was fine.

The new death animations are Nintendo’s way of saying “Don’t worry, kids! If you put yourselves in life threatening situations, you’ll be just fine, just like Mario! This will in no way be crippling to your physical or mental state!”
Yep they’ve certainly have gone too soft and sensitive with the newer generation as nothing will beat the original.

Unused in the files of the demo for the game are updated versions of all of the old animations, including fire, and a brand new shock animation too. During the shock animation he would flash several poses, including the elusive V-SIGN! Oh how i miss that pose.
I'm not sure if they're still kicking around in the files of the final version, but i'm genuinely so disappointed they're unused.

1:12 After how high you can fall off of in Odyssey without fall damage, this makes sense.
Honestly i prefer the old one cause even more funnier
That’s exactly why the original wins!
Remakes are never superior to the original
0:58 OUCH!!
0:01 Donkey Kong is like HEY!
1:10 Okay, the no fall damage schtick is just downright disrespectful. The fact that Nintendo removed this proves that they think we're (collectively) soft, so they put this.
Yes that’s exactly why Nintendo has gone too soft with Mario as they have toned down the dramatic hilarious entertaining violence into a soulless shallow.
And it's not like they couldn't add some sort of option to toggle the fall damage on and off instead of outright removing it, or at the very least make it so only the easier difficulty removes the fall damage while keeping it in the normal one...
If this is for Casual Mode only then fine, but in Classic as well? That’s not cool.
I wasn't gonna buy the remake anyway, but the lack of fall damage actually ruins the game for me. I could forgive the lack of death animations, but removing game mechanics is unforgivable.
in Mario games, in no case does he die from falls, we are more in Super Mario 64 or Sunshine.
the only thing that looks better is the Squashed animation, tho i kinda get that Nintendo doesn't want their mascot to straight up die anymore. but removing the pasta lines is TOO FAR
Squished up is the only variation I liked in the remake
Same
Was the burn animation updated between the demo & the final remake? Cause I swear there were no smoke clouds coming off the characters in the demo!
There was not even so much as a sound effect in the demo when the characters got burned
probably just they deleted late game assets for the demo so ppl couldnt load full game stuff in from the demo ! @@Goomba1309
I think the old one has more charm than the remakes I mean Mario dead animation in gba has a lot of different ways went you die but the remake kinda don't have that and that's why mario vs donkey kong in gba was special to me but hey at least they remove fall damage from the remake so that's good to know
Totally agree with you there!
Nintendo has messed up this GBA classic as the death animations have been a real disappointment.
And this was my very first Mario game ever since I was so little.
@@lottietrohear9127 nice
wow so he actaully dies in the old one and nintendo decides to keep alive and ok in the new one
They have gone too soft with the kiddy friendly territory when it comes to remastering/remaking an old classic and they have added a stupid casual mode in the remake as that’s the baby mode of playing the game.
I was convinced that in GBA Mario died instead of an injury 🥲
3:12 He just knocked him out 💀
Mario got decked straight into next year.
I like how Mario is sitting on the lava in 1:33 😂
0:06 Mario vs King Kong??
Thank you for this video!!
3:19 Donkey Kong: get out of Here Mario!!! ):
I swear EVERYTHING becomes softer by age.
Yep when a new Mario game comes out or a remastered/remake is on its way Nintendo certainly has toned down the violence and has gone to the child friendly level and make things so easy…
"softer" is not the word for this. You mean "safer"
Funny how they actually improved the squish death from upwards but removed all other types
The animations are basically a down grade in the remaster.
In the new game over screen, they should've made Mario fall asleep and dream about pasta when waiting for a while like in the old GBA version. It's pretty funny, ngl.
Not really a death perse, but you forgot the one where Mario presumably gets “choked” by those bats in Mystic Forest.
Is it different in the remake?
EDIT: I checked and….it’s different. Mario kinda just….falls. Lame…
4:19 squeak
0:34 1:34 creepy
I could tell that some of Mario’s voice clips in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake (whether in gameplay or cutscenes) are the same as his voice clips from the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the GBA. The only difference is that the voice clips in the remake received quality upgrades due to the more modern sound processing of the Switch or something
So dissapointed with the new deaths
Same here! I’ve been panicking of what the death animations will be like in the remake as I’ve played the original since I was kid and I just laughed so hard looking back when Mario dies and start over as I did had a few tantrums when I lose a life when I was very little 20 years later.
Y'know, I never questioned it until now, but when you lose in the Mini Mario levels, why does MARIO HIMSELF lose a life?
From a gameplay standpoint it kinda does make sense, but do Mario and the Mini Marios share a conscience such that if they die, he dies too? Or does Mario become so freaking depressed that he just up and commits slip n slide offscreen if he loses all Mini Marios?
Mario VS Donkey Kong truly is a dark game, I tell you what
In the Switch version, Mario doesn't lose a life if Mini Mario dies in the Plus Levels.
@@CesarTorres61296Mario does lose a life if mini mario dies in the switch remake too
As morbid as the GBA version of Mario vs Donkey Kong deaths were, I think it is harder to take the deaths very seriously when Mario just falls off the screen in the Switch remake version. At least with the GBA version, dying actually made it look dying instead of looking very silly.
Mario falling and smashing his head is so brutal and yet so funny. lmao.
Its ok he's still got enough life in him to say "mama mia" after all that
You had one job in this remake, Nintendo.
Things I didn't like about the remake:
1. The cartoony SFX that were the charm of the game, they removed them.
2. The Death Animations were changed (except of being crushed)
3. They removed/changed many tracks of the game like: Fire Mountain, Twillight City, The Title Screen, and the battle themes.
What I don't like is that Mario's voice lines in the game are little more than just stock voice clips from previous games. What I consider the charm of the game was all of Mario's unique lines throughout the original game.
@@jayo1212I agree. I thought Kevin Afghani would record new voice clips for the game, but no, Nintendo decided to be Nintendo and reused Charles Martinet’s old recordings.
@@petercolbeysgameshowmania7176 and most are pretty much the usual stuff, they didn't use a lot of the unique recordings from the original.
1:00 Mario broke his skull
"about the fall damages of the game"
me in the original: "falls and brokes his legs" AH F"bip" WHY THE HELL DID I HAD AN IDEA TO FALL DOWN IN A HIGH PLACE?!?!?!

0:05 Mario vs *King* Kong
Okay. For some reason now, I want somebody to make an actual Mario and King Kong crossover happen. 😶
The amount of times that Mario said mama mia were 29 times
I always found the original death by fire sprite creepy. His blacked out eyes, slouched posture... I always loved it too. Pity its just another flailing fall off the screen now.
Charles Martinet Is Back In 2024 Version Of Mario Vs Donkey Kong? That's So Cool!
Mario vs. King Kong, the crossover we all need!
Universal and Illumination: WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!
I actually beat the first three worlds on my first day, playing it on the day it came out
Even knowing the original is the sequel to Donkey Kong for the Game Boy
Thanks!
YOU'RE WELCOME!
old death: oh boy that's a lot of damage, new: um can we get a different death animation in each damage of enemies?
This is Mario most dramatic "mama mia"
Thanks for the side by side comparison of the original and remake. My thoughts about the remake death animations…
I am absolutely disappointed with them Nintendo has taken the charm away as they have toned down the slapstick humour away and trashed the iconic violence away as they have gone into the baby kiddy friendly territory as they added a stupid casual mode when Mario is in a bubble and the timer is paused making it so easy that you can’t die when you get hit and bubble saves you!
Not to mention this about collecting the stars from each stage as the high score board has been removed as you have to collect all 3 presents instead beating your high score like hurry save time defeating enemies to get little score points as if you beat the current high score you get rewarded a star but in the remake they have removed it…
And the iconic Mario voice lines especially the dialogue gone…
Not even “Come Back Here You Big Monkey!” That left fans devastated.
Most of the music for each levels are so unrecognisable like Fire Mountain and Twilight City and some of the remastered music doesn’t fit very well as there’s too much jazz and not very catchy or energetic it doesn’t match the original correctly…
Who agrees with me as if you remember playing the original 20 years later?
I agree with everything
I think they removed the score-based system to make wave for the new time attack mode.
@@dariuscox3576 It would have made sense if it was already here during the whole story instead of an extra mode because if you want to get the stars In each worlds stage you need to defeat enemies and do some handstands to get little points along with collecting all of the presents and saving the time limit as that’s how you get rewarded for a star in the original.
Am I the only one who noticed he said King Kong at the start? That had be dying to laughter
Thrill Drive 1 & 2 & 3 Needs to be Remake on Nintendo Switch!
“How many ‘mama-mia’s’ do you want in the video?”
“Yes”
What is this atrocity... the mini Marios don't shatter!

Where did all of the slapstick-humor go?
The death sounds are somewhat based on the Game Boy Donkey Kong game's death sounds
Fun fact: they changed the death sound playing on some deaths, such as the electrocution death!
I feel like that was an oversight cause its the same song that would be used for fire death. And when mario dies when being squished from the side, he doesn't have a voice clip that plays.
I enjoy 😊 both old and new
Basically, the remake suffered from Mario Odyssey death syndrome, all except getting crushed
Something about the way Mario falls off of a ladder in the original makes me laugh more
sucks that fall damage is gone, id added another layer of challenge
Wow!
Removed several unique death animations. We're off to a great start.
ngl I do miss the basically violent death animations
oh well 🤷
My favorite snack is Popcorners!
I still enjoyed playing this game despite its death changes cuz you know, I would like to not die in my opinion!
They removed all the custom death interactions and Mario still interacting with the level when dying, like getting burned and still landing on the plateform after the knocked back animation is played instead of falling in nothingness.
The only one I would argue is better in the remake is "Squished up". I don't get why Mario doesn't get flatten like with squished down and sideways in the original. But the original is still better in so many other ways.
I agree with you dude the remake was very disappointing the original was very good
The remake was not disappointing at all, it is better than the original in a lot of ways.
Thank you for calling out the bland death animations. GBA had more unique ones than the remake that has done away with and made a generic animation in place of most possible deaths Mario can have (SMB style), lava death lost its engulfing Mario in flame and left in charred while electricity death doesn't have zaaaaappp sfx and showing Mario's skeleton. They're way too safe and boring now.
Old one is better
Mama mia! Time's up!
To be honest the switch version feels like a big downgrade to death animations compared to the GBA version plus removing some of mario's unique voice lines. Doesn't really help that in the files there are animations recreated from the original (along with some fun easter eggs)

How dare they remove that squishing sound on Switch
Dude, they took away most of the fun deaths, they made it too baby
I would really really like for you to explain to me how the new ones are bland and generic while the old ones were.....Mario falls forward, Mario falls backwards, Mario falls on his head. How is any of that less bland or generic then him doing a pose then falling off screen like in other 2D games. The only ones that were significantly changed were his burn and shock deaths which also aren't any less generic now. The only difference is his lump body doesn't stay onscreen anymore.
This game will look better in the Super Mario Wonder Style, it will be more 2D game like the original GBA and the animatiion would have been better.

A lot of the new ones are the same death animation with teh same screen effect. Lava same as burn same as damage. Shock is pretty cool but not as good as OG and teh timeover having mario shot in OG was insane to see compared to the tame take damage recycled the 100th time. Also removing falldamage is kinda weird for a puzzle platformer but thats not a big deal probably hopefully. Also team Mario.
